Sunset Shimmer is a character that evolves, becomes aware of her mistakes and tries to erase her past.In Rainbow Rocks,Sunset has to fight the prejudice that all had of her, but she proves to be strong and determined in wanting to become a new person.Maybe you don't like the fact that Rainbow Rocks shows a Sunset mostly "embarrassed", "insecure" or ..? I think Sunset is always the "stronger" person than before, but the apparent weakening of her character reflects only the conflict that she has within herself and against the general prejudice in her comparisons.

I think she has done really well to completely change herself in such a short time. I was pretty sure she would do what Discord did with Tirek when the Sirens were taunting her but she remained strong. Even when almost everyone in school hated her for what she did in the first movie, she just brushed it off and accepted that what she did was wrong.

She was always there for the Mane 6, making sure they managed to stay united to defeat the Sirens.

I didn't mind her in the first movie, but she wasn't too interesting either. However, she seemed to have most of the focus in Rainbow Rocks and had a bunch of character development. I'm now a big fan of her because of it; she's one of the best things to come out Equestria Girls in my opinion.

I really couldn't stand her in Equestria Girls mainly because she was the typical mean girl villain like Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon and her character was just too similar to other villains. In Rainbow Rocks, however, she greatly improved and I fell in love with her because she was less like every other villain and more like an actual character. I definitely like her now as a character and look forward to her in Equestria Girls 3.

Sunset has became one of the best villains to be reformed along with Discord. We get to see more of her character development and see her trying to get rid of her past image. And obviously, some of the people in the fandom can to relate to what's she's going though. Always having people see her for what she used to be and spread rumours about her... awful. But I guess she can be our anti-bullying mascot and a reminder to us in the fandom still in school that we just need to be strong and stand up for ourselves and hang out with people who will care about you, and won't care about what you like or were like originally and take you for who you are. (Grammar if you failed me, I shall shove a lemon in your face  :eww: )

Double brohoof. Honestly, I think the reason I love Sunset so much is because of her development as a character. Some people think personalities never change but I think Sunset's has. I know for a fact that mine has. I used to be a very different person five years ago. What's cool is all this change is for the better. Stories of redemption and improvement touch me because it's personal. The lesson of My Past is not Today is certainly praiseworthy.  :fluttershy:

I think I'm actually one of the few who liked her as a villain back in the original Equestria Girls, while her being the school bully who could do pretty much whatever she wanted and manipulate everyone was a bit cliche', I enjoyed the part where she turned into a literal a demon and she was the first villain shown to actually attempt to kill another character, since the film came out before the flashback with Nightmare Moon and Celestia showing just how much of a threat she was even without the brainwashing (though,at the time I did think that her demon form might have freaked a few kids out).

In the sequel, I liked her even more and felt very sympathetic towards her and was disappointed that she didn't get to return to Equestria or at the very least speak with her mentor again with some kind of emotional reconciliation, which felt wasted when she wrote to Celestia about Twilight.

Possible spoiler for those who haven't read the Holiday Special comic;

Part of me kind of wishes that she would return to her old ways or leave the human world, since the Holiday Special from the comics made it very clear that everyone is still perfectly willing to turn on her at the drop of a hat, even her alleged "friends" despite her selfless actions since she stopped being the kind of person she initially started out as in the first film and it feels like they will never truly accept her.

It has taken some time, but I can say that I have been won over by Sunset Shimmer's progression as a character. My Past is Not Today actually shows a great deal of development on her part, especially considering that the Dazzlings said she would never be able to live down her past. I was initially turned off by the idea of another character stealing the spotlight from the mane six in the EQG universe, but then it occurred to me that we see enough of them in the mane universe and having another character around actually makes things more interesting IMHO, and I actually think it makes more sense for the EQG series to focus more on her as that's the only time we get to see her, which means it's the only chance the writers have for character development on her part.

To be honest, I disliked her back in the first EG movie. Her personality was that of a generic, stereotypical bully character. All she wanted was to take over the world, become powerful; typical goals for a bully character/villain. It wasn't until the second movie that I started to like her. She was revealed to actually be a complex character, with flaws and her own problems. I'm glad she was given some characterization because to this day she is one of my favorite ponies/humans.
