Did Sunset Shimmer do something bad in Equestria?

Why isn't Sunset Shimmer going back to Equestria? What's so fun about high school? Did she do something in Equestria or was mistreated there that she ran away and hid in the other side? Did I miss something?

If you read the EQ comic you learn that as a student, she tried to learn more about dark magic, like the mirror portal, so she could become an alicorn quickly and overthrow celestia!

This is all true, but for me it doesn't fully explain why she's never returned even after being reformed by Twilight and the human five. Perhaps she doesn't really have anyone in Equestria to go back to(besides Celestia maybe). This is just speculation, but if she is some kind of orphan than her story would be very similar to that of Sombra's.

Thats a good idea. I think that she's too embarrassed/ashamed of what she did in the past that she doesn't want to go back as it would bring back all the bad memories of before.

Personally, with the way she has melded and befriended the Main 5 at Canterlot High I just don't see much motivation for her to return home. Can't say I blame her; I doubt she has much to return to.

Considering the way she acted at the beginning of RR that would make sense. Since she's redeemed herself in the face of her peers at Canterlot High perhaps she'll find some closure in the next film. But then again considering how established she's become in the human world and that the films constraints don't leave much room for this kind of development I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing this become a reality.

Maybe as a plot device or climax for the next film. Other than something like that it does seem unlikely.
