This is the thread for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn!

FF XIV: ARR is an MMO for the PS3/4 and PC. The setting is the fantasy world of Eorzea, which has just entered the 7th Astral Era following the war between the Eorzean Grand Alliance, and the Garlean Empire, which ended when the Primal God Bahamut burst forth from the red moon, Dalamud, and laid waste to the land.

You can play as a male or Female of the following races

  •  Hyur (Humans)
  • Elezen (Elves)
  • Mi'quote (cat people)
  • Lalafell (hobbits)
  • Roegadyn (very large built, almost animalistic humanoids)

You can choose to ally with any of the 3 starting nations

  • Gridania (Very forest-y)
  • Ul'dah (desert climate)
  • Limsa Lominsa (coastal and full of pirates)

This game's strength is in it's storyline, and in its not so casual friendly end game content. You won't find a raid that's nearly a face roll, like in other MMOs. I personally find it to be a very rewarding game to play, and feel my PvE accomplishments are well deserved, and never just handed to me. You can easily spend hundreds of hours just getting through the game's story, and exploring its content. What impresses me the most about the game is the music, the stunning graphics, and the sheer vastness of dungeons and end game raiding that can be found, all at different item level difficulties.

I would love to see more people in this game, especially with the expansion coming out next month, so please check it out!

This is my Lalafell, Star Swirl. I currently play on Behemoth server, AKA the Cool Kid's Table, AKA Best-hemoth.

Bumperinos with the trailer for XIV's first expansion, Heavensward!

The xpac promises

  • Level cap raised to 60
  • New areas that are double the size of the current ones
  • Continuation of the story
  • New class abilities
  • Addition of the Dark Knight (Tank), Machinist (Gun based ranged DPS), and Astrologian (Healer) jobs!
  • Flying mounts!

I'm honestly very excited for this expansion, and am actually taking a week off for it. 7 days of pizza and red bull, I don't expect to survive! This game has never failed to amaze me with its stunning stunning STUNNING graphics, music, and rewarding gameplay. This to me is honestly the best MMO on the market right now.

I hope to see you in Eorzea!

Funny how WoW just said no flying mounts, and there will be flying in FF14. Coincidence? Maybe not. Gonna likely make a new char soon on there once i get bored of rogue on WoW

Ya, wow is even make people earn their flying, like how XIV makes players discover all the wind currents in a zone before they can fly there. The difference to me is, flying in WoW is only meant to expedite travel and gathering, while flying in XIV is a means to explore the content. The mounts don't even compare either. Sure WoW has some cool looking mounts, but XIV wins just off of the FC and single passenger airships alone.

Not gonna lie, I've been mildly obsessed with the game for a while now. It's kinda funny how I started out being stuck on Titan hard mode, just trying to do the relic when it was still relatively new, to somehow finishing the Final Coil of Bahamut with party of friends. And now, I'm just waiting for early access to start ( and servers to probably go down for emergency maintenance), there's only so much t13 farming I can take y'know...

But anyway, I got a lala on the comfy server, Brynhildr.

<The Final Witness> and <Z> here myself. I just wish I had done 13 without the echo. Dreading the next 36 hours, because I'm gonna stay up from now until Thursday at 8PM, so I can sleep and be fresh for 5 AM friday morning.

Oh god, I couldn't take my relic past the atma stage (actually, I couldn't even finish the atma stage till it got nerfed to oblivion); the grind was just waaaaay too much for me.

But yeah, just waiting, chomping at the bit now. I really want to try out astrologian and even machinist, now that I saw that countdown illustration (lalas are so cute xD). Though, I did promise the static group I'd level white mage to 60 first... (even though they're nerfing mah holy :eww:)

First boss of the xpac: Error 1014

Second boss of the xpac: Error 2002

Third boss of the xpac: Error 5006

I knew it was only a matter of time till I would encounter some error and get booted, but I couldn't help being a bit ecstatic when I actually logged in successfully on the first try.

Now, it's the 2002 struggle  :(

Got sucked into the game for a while again, as expected. I got my whm to 60 first, as promised, and dabbled around with the other jobs, but that leveling fatigue has already settled in.

I do like astrologian a lot, but I do think they need a few tweaks. It feels more much difficult to salvage a run/pull with them than it does with my whm, that's for sure ( the vault, oh god). I'm still in love with their theme and card mechanics and such though.

I did play for a little while, I got to the point in the story where you had to do 3 dungeons in a row, but it took about and hour of queuing to get into each and I never got around to doing the third.

It's a shame really, one of the very few MMO's that held my interest. I've thought about giving it another go but I always end up soloing stuff. It's weird. I can meet and get along with new people fine in real life but I get online and end up avoiding other players like the plague. >_>

Actually you should have better luck now because everyone seems to be leveling the new tank and healer class, and the low level dungeon roulette gives currency for good gear, so all the high level players are ending up in the low level dungeons.

Update to my progress: Achieved the title of "Grandmaster of Magic" last night, which means I have Thaumaturge, Conjurer, Arcanist, and Astrologian at max level. It's a very fitting title, considering my character's name is Star Swirl.

I've been playing the game for about the past month with my friends and I'm enjoying the game... but only as dps classes. I tried tank for a bit and I didn't really enjoy it and I haven't tried any healer classes yet. I've gotten my Ninja and Monk to lvl 50 and I just got Dragoon lvl 30. I'm still trying to get through the main story so I can get to Heavensward and try out Machinist but my god it's a grindfest trying to get through the main campaign to reach HW. We're close though should only take another game session to reach it.

haha, ya the story is really extensive. At least you get tons of xp and gear for it now! I hope you enjoy Heavensward, the zones are massive, and the story was really awesome later on.

One game session later and still no Heavensward, literally two quests off. Spent most of today working up Archer so I can become a Bard just to add another dps to the list, so far enjoying archer. It feels strange not having to run up close to any enemies though

Anyone making progress in Alexander Savage? My static had a 1% wipe on A1S last night, so we should be able to get through it tonight.

The best part of the end game is the obscene difficulty. No one has even come close to beating the final boss in Savage mode yet, and the dungeon has been out for like a month now. Elysium (Death and Taxes + Collision)  will probably be the first, but maybe not for a few more weeks.

My friends and I are still doing the Heavensward story, we would probably be done by now only for the fact that we stopped to level up MCH, AST and DRK and then again to level up WHM, DRG and DRG but we stopped those at 30. I'm continuing the story as a Machinist because I enjoy it more than Ninja. We also keep having to stop because the game keeps making us have to level up to get the next quest, it's really annoying. Hopefully, we'll finish soon I really want to get to the end game content.
