Does anyone here have a computer virus?

Yes I do and it keep saying warning your computer is under attack please call whatever phone number they said. Also things keep popping up on my computer saying you are banned from doing anything on this computer, and it wouldn't let me exit the screen or do anything on the computer. One time my sister was playing on the computer and the whole screen just went blue. What do you have to say about this?

It sounds like it may be fake antivirus software. If the program making the notifications is supposed to be an antivirus program, what is its name?

Probably two unrelated problems.

The first is ransomware of some sort, definitely straight malware though. What you should do is log in on another computer (if you have one) and download malwarebytes anti-malware to a flash drive. From there you're going to boot the infected computer into safe mode (just unplug your computer while it's running, plug it back in, and launch it in order to get the prompt to do so). Plug in the flash drive and have Malwarebytes scan your drive, it should find and quarantine/kill the virus.

As for the other problem, sounds like a memory leak due to whatever she was doing. Chrome is a massive memory hog if you use it, so it may just be nomming up all the ram for itself. One of your RAM sticks may have gone bad, but other than that it's just a routine problem.

I think there was some adware on mine before but I was able to dispose of that pretty quickly. AVG is beastly, especially for being free. :3 Also, MalwareBytes is a good program too from what I have seen.

They're different programs for different purposes. AVG, Avast, Avira (my personal favorite), NOD32, etc... Are anti-virus programs. They're designed to actively protect against threats on your system for an extended period of time.

On the other hand Malwarebytes is an Anti-malware program. It's designed to be used on already-infected systems where normal anti-virus programs get shut down, and in situations where the virus is on the bleeding edge of development and other programs haven't caught up to catch it yet. However, their definition database is culled of older threats, meaning the best way to have complete coverage is to have Malwarebytes free edition working in conjunction with a traditional anti-virus program.

My computer is relatively protected against common viruses, but it wasn't always. There was this one time years ago when i scanned it for viruses it found like over 1,200 different infections! My friends and i jokingly said my computer is like a host for the souls of 1,200 demons that have possessed it.

my computer claims I have adware, spyware, and mailware..... though every time I scan I only find cookies

that's nothing... I went 4 years without virus protection on my laptop then when I finally decided to get one it detected over 10,000 threats....

don't do it... mine does the same exact bull crap... its just an adware

the best way I found to exit that is to log off..... then when it closes abort the log off....

. One time my sister was playing on the computer and the whole screen just went blue.

that means your computer crashed.... my advice to you is not only to scan your computer but check your things you got installed on it as well.... somethings on there might be slowing your computer down

I would suggest a getting avg of McAfee I trust those two. They protect against most viruses. Also a full wipe might be needed if it has the virus that I think it has(FBI virus).

One thing I am going to say right off the bat is

Don't call that number.

Seriously, there is a type of malaware (malicious software) called ransomeware which creates the problem through infecting your computer and offers you the "solution". ransomeware is very dangerous both due to the fac that they are cynically trying to sell you a product under duress from a problem they created and because many of these ransomeware products steal your identity and can really screw things up.

Now that I have said that I can in fact say that I have gotten my share of viruses, spyware, malaware ect... Some infections I have been to fix myself through a clean install of Windows (with of course backing up my information before that) but there have also been other ones which I have had to take in for repairs. I learned a few things the hard way and it is this. Porn sites (mostly live action) are notorious for having some nasty viruses and hentai/r34 sites are much much less risky and add blocker plus is a must and is thankfully free and easy to download.

It sounds like you have a really nasty infection and I would recommend you get it fixed, you could do a clean install but unless you back up your data you will lose everything. Since it sounds like the infection has advanced to this point doing so is likely beyond your own abilities but may be salvageable by someone who is knowledgeable about computers.

Hey, all you're doing is scaring poor OP, it isn't like he's been infected by Cryptolocker, Zeus, or that one Sony rootkit that managed to convince everyone to give out their personal information and copy an even worse rootkit to 'remove' it.

Honestly, the best way to be safe is to surf safe. Always at least run Adblock except on the most trusted of sites, keep everything updated, and don't do stupid downloads and you'll be safe 90% of the time.

However, this infection is not a serious one. Malwarebytes on Chameleon (or your chosen antivirus/antimalware program's hidden function) launched from safe mode will clear this ransomeware no problem. There are more serious ransomewares that will seriously mess things up (like afformentioned Cryptolocker), but the FBI ransomeware is a cheap and quick scam. If it were out for your data (passwords, CC/Social Security numbers, etc) they'd surreptitiously install a keylogger and be done with it that way.

I'm not saying malware is a joke, it isn't, but it isn't something that requires years of experience in IT or a degree in Computer Science to get rid of it. The RogueAMP (rogue Anti Malware Program) channel on youtube has a bunch of good videos for dealing with ransomeware like this, here's an example for OP and anyone else who may have the problem:

Viruses are relatively easy to deal with if you catch them. Simply boot into safe mode, and then do a system rollback to a point before you installed it.

It's how I got rid of the FBI virus. Not even sure how I got the damn virus, I just bought that computer a week before, and I plugged it into the barracks internet, and boom, the whole Child Porn lockout page popped up.

Probably just an opportunistic exploit when you logged in and went to a compromised website. Just dropped the Malware (Not technically a virus because it doesn't replicate itself) onto your computer and went on its merry way to attempt to quickly get some money from you.

System restore works for stuff like that, but if you had a proper virus you would probably wind up doing nothing and would have to use a removal program.

I've been using computers and high-speed internet for over a decade now so I'm essentially immune to viruses and spyware, because I know what to look for, and if anything does slip through the cracks, my anti malware program picks it up for me. In fact I recently had to intentionally download a file that was infected with malware because it had a genuinely useful tool inside it that I couldn't get anywhere else. Once I had the program I was able to easily remove the malware from my computer.

You should have at least 3 layers of security, an antivirus program with real time protection, an updated HOSTS file that blocks ads and malicious websites, and a browser which supports an adblock extension (you should never use internet explorer). Some people go an extra step and get a firewall, but I've found them to be rather unnecessary, as I've never had any program try to access the internet that I didn't want to.
