From the new episode that old Griffon mentioned they used to have kings. Based on DIsney and MLP settling terms Kings and Queens are evil while Princes and Princesses are good. King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis were examples of this. If Griffons had kings were they evil?

Note this could say that Griffonstone even in it's glamor days wasn't a stable rulership since they held trust to a symbol of an artifact. Having a king could not just be that they're evil but they are ill-equipped to be rulers or such and there can be problems. Of course this isn't always the case as Princess Celestia and Princess Luna had unsettling terms with one another. Queen Chrysalis was pretty straightforward bad.

Guess you must've missed the memo that a lot of characters in their past MLP series have either been queens (and still on the side of good), or wanted to be queen, if they weren't.

Examples: Queen Rosedust of the Flutter ponies- G1

"By Right, I should be queen" song the princess ponies sing in G1

Good king and queen talked about- and seen in "Princess Problems"- G2

Good queen mentioned in the spellbook Twilight has, in "Hearts and Hooves Day"- G4

Good queen mentioned from the Crystal Empire- "The crystal Empire part 2" (?) G4

Good queen mentioned in Journal of the Two sisters- g4

Good king "King Leo" depicted as Celestia's cousin- "Under the Sparkling Sea"- G4

Good king, ruler of the deer in the Everfree forest, "King Aspen"- G4

sooo...yeah.....

Don't know about the previous gens but Faust intended to make Celestia a Queen but Hasbro said nope by the sense that Queens are evil and Princesses are good.

It's different to say "Kings and queens are evil" rather than "Pony targed demographics are used to perceive king and queen as evil", the latter is the reason why Equestria is ruled by princesses. It makes sense, as they were mainly appealing to the target demographic at the time, not expecting the older audience at all, otherwise we probably have Celestia and Luna as queens

I'm sure you can see the irony in that, when Hasbro has made Kings and Queens good guys, before Faust came on the scene, as I already pointed out.

Griffons were clearly very militaristic. They must have had a lot of army coups with the general taking the role of King. I don't think they were evil like King Sombra or Chrysalis. They were probably very strict but probably meant good in whatever they did.

Judging by the fact that Twilight said to Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash to bring plenty of bits the Idol of Boreus clearly didn't solve the greed problem but was merely one factor of many that stabilized the griffons enough to unite from many various kingdoms and tribes killing each other to a unified nation. Part of this disrepency is that the fact that Hasbro has it in their mind that king/queen=evil and prince/princess=good but also that the Griffons are a much much more militaristic and aggressive culture than the ponies. It is true that the ponies have had conflict with each other in the past as we have seen in the Hearths Warming Eve episode with the pony races being at each others throats.

But it seems like it took even longer for the Griffons to unite and the fact that this unity fell apart after the Idol of Boreus was stolen indicates that the Griffons are much more war like and are much more difficult to have a stable and peaceful society. It is a bit over simplistic to say that all or most Griffons are greedy and evil but it is reasonable to state that things like pride are to them as a culture much more important than to the ponies. With how far and fast society crumbled after this theft it is reasonable to assume that there were various other problems and that it merely served as the proverbial "straw that broke the camels back."

King Gutoh could well have had several enemies, and this theft could have easily have been just the opportunity they needed to try to seize power. A weakened king with his subjects losing faith in him is the perfect opportunity for a coup and judging by how things turned out in Griffonstone the Griffon Kingdom is likely a series of various kingdoms and tribes like it was before it was united under King Grover.
