spoiler Come up with an idea for season five's future episodes

As a result of the synopses and titles of the next three episodes recently revealed, it's possible the leaked episode list posted on 4Chan a few weeks ago is legitimate. Two days ago, Equestria Daily posted a discussion blog asking their followers to come up with at least one synopsis for a future episode.

For those curious, here is the leaked list (official episodes in bold):

  1. The Cutie Map, Part 1/2
  2. Castle Sweet Castle
  3. Bloom and Gloom

  4. Tanks for the Memories

  5. Appleloosa’s Most Wanted

  6. Make New Friends and Keep Discord

  7. The Lost Treasures of Griffinstone

  8. Slice of Life (not aired)

  9. Princess Spike (not aired)

  10. Party Pooped (not aired)

  11. Amending Fences

  12. Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?

  13. Canterlot Boutique

  14. Scare-Master

  15. Rarity Investigates

  16. Made in Manehattan

  17. Brotherhooves Social

  18. Crusaders of the Lost Mark

  19. The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows

  20. Hearthbreakers

  21. What About Discord?

  22. The Hooffields and Mccolts

  23. The Mane Attraction

  24. The Cutie Remark Part 1 and 2

Although Slice of Life, Princess Spike, and Party Popped are official with summaries, it's unknown what the others will be. As a result, I have a challenge.

  • What will the synopsis for the next episodes (Episodes 11 onward) be? Please write a summary of at least one episode in one to three sentences.
  • Summarize the actual plot of the episode. Describe the scenarios, conflict, possible characters (including the lead), and the climax. Some characters are very obvious to be in episodes, but others aren't.
  • What is/are the moral/s? Season five's morals are far more ambiguous this time because they don't rely on a letter/journal report. It's very possible an episode can have a main and secondary moral, and they can tie together. Make sure the moral is tied to the conflict itself.
  • Keep in mind of the content rating. In America, it's TV-Y. As a result, don't post a daft joke summary and conflict. Put in some effort into your idea, and try to blend them with the themes of Friendship Is Magic. Make the episode concept feel as FIM-like as possible.

I'll start with one episode idea for Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?

Summary: Princess Luna has been having nightmares over the past several weeks. As the nightmares worsened, Luna's ability to check up on other's dreams is severely hampered. It's up to Celestia to find out what the problem is.

Concept: This is influenced by this card posted on Equestria Daily recently. Princess Luna has been having trouble with her assignment of dreamwalking, and part of it has to do with her inability to sleep. At a specific time in the afternoon, she wakes up with a start shivered. Princess Celestia has been worried over it, but had enough. So she brought Luna to a doctor to check her out, but the tests come back negative. Luna and Celestia have a conversation about it, but Luna says she's fine. Celestia asks Luna if she can take care of the dreamwalking for the night while Luna takes the night off. She does, and Celestia explores the world of dreamwalking. But as she works, she hears a call for help. It was Luna, and before Luna and Celestia is a "Nightmare Moon" version of Celly called Solar Flare/Nightmare Star. Luna tells Celestia to stand back, because she doesn't want Celly to become her. Celestia uses her magic to wipe away the conflict. Celestia realizes what the problem is: Luna fears something like this will happen and haunts her presently. Consequently, her bottled-up fears have affected her ability to work. Celestia tells Luna it's okay to tell her what's wrong. She's her sister and will be there to talk.

Moral: Don't bottle up your anguish. It could affect your everyday life. Don't be afraid to admit help. Rest assured a friend or family member who truly loves and supports you will be there to help.

Doing it seriously is much, much tougher than it looks.

"Canterlot Boutique": When Rarity is persuaded/inspired to move the Carousel Boutique to Canterlot, she is torn between following her dreams and staying with her friends and roots in Ponyville. To avoid wrecking canon (meta reason), Rarity stays in Ponyville. I don't know what moral they could use.

"Brotherhooves Social": Rainbow Dash feels left out when Twilight and Applejack attend the Brotherhooves Social with their big brothers Shining Armor and Big Macintosh. Rainbow Dash finds a surrogate big brother (either a one-shot character or Soarin'), reciprocating the care she gave Scootaloo in "Sleepless in Ponyville", and learning that when you're away from your family, your friends can be just as close.

"Crusaders of the Lost Mark": 1 of 2(the more likely one) A classmate of the Cutie Mark Crusaders gains a cutie mark, only to lose interest in their special talent soon after. The Crusaders help the classmate regain interest in their special talent. Moral: Never losing sight of what you're good at.

"Crusaders of the Lost Mark": 2 of 2(the one I want to see) The Cutie Mark Crusaders meet a pony much older than they are who happens to have no cutie mark. Believing the pony to have lost their cutie mark, the Crusaders vigorously use their methods to help the young adult pony gain his/her cutie mark. It turns out the pony never had a cutie mark to begin with. Moral: You're never too old to continue "finding yourself", and some may come to it much later than they expect.

"What About Discord?": The Cutie Map sends the Mane 6 on another adventure and Discord feels left out. Discord nags the Mane 6 and nearly ruins the mission. Moral: Being a good friend means knowing when to leave your friends alone.

"The Cutie Remark": The Cutie Map calls the Mane 6 again, finding that Starlight Glimmer has returned and mustered up a gang of power-hungry unicorns rejected from Celestia's school for the gifted. The revelation: Starlight herself quit the school when she saw the opportunities Twilight Sparkle had gotten as a protege of Celestia. The equality village was a response to Twilight's ascension to power in order for Starlight to prove she was just as good a leader as Twilight, and the "equality" ideology was merely a means for her to find ponies over which she can gain power through trust. She and her newfound crew are hiding out in the far north and east of Equestria, waiting for the chance to strike back at the Mane 6 when they arrive, with the plan to make Equestria dependent on them by taking out their greatest heroes. Twilight is incapacitated, and the death blow is only struck when one of Starlight's own allies turns on her. Moral: Don't waste your life and effort trying to go after what someone else has. With the connections you can make as a good friend, you can make your own success through the support of others.

This will be fun. :)

Canterlot Boutique (hoping it's a Rarity episode because I love Rarity episodes :proud:):

Rarity has been offered a position to work at a posh, illustrious designer boutique under an idol of hers and is struggling to determine whether she wants to pursue her career aspirations, leaving her friends and family, or sacrifice her immediate rise in the fashion world to stay in Ponyville.

Concept: Rarity is in Canterlot with her friends at some fashion show displaying her designs in front of an audience of Canterlot's fashion elite. One of the most famous designers approaches Rarity believing that she has potential to make it out there in this cutthroat business and that she should make some special designs for Rarity. She, obviously dumbfounded and on a sense of euphoria, decides to take the commission. Her friends are initially supportive but they start thinking that Rarity might end up leaving them to work at the designer's boutique so they start persuading her to stay in Ponyville. Rarity feels torn between the two and goes through inner conflict. Eventually her friends decide to support whatever decision she makes even though it may separate them. Rarity decides to stay in Ponyville because even though she has the drive to move forward in her career, her happiness ultimately rests in Ponyville. Perhaps, the designer decides to give Rarity some more publicity because she admires Rarity's loyalty to her friends.

Moral: You should support your friends throughout their tough decisions and not act selfishly from the perspective of the Rarity-less ReMane-ing 5 (sort of along the lines of "Green is Not Your Color" but dealt with more maturely). Sometimes you have to make tough decisions in life and you have to be willing to make some sacrifices from the perspective of Rarity. No matter where you are friendship still can connect people even if they're separated by miles. Perhaps a more mature one is that worldly success doesn't always give you true satisfaction and fulfillment but instead more intangible, sentimental things can and only you are able to determine what's right for you.

Not really. Your idea is much better developed. I'm sure many of us would have come up with the same premise.  :)

That's an interesting idea and I think it's very likely but I'm hoping they refer back to the Big Mac-Spike hoofball relationship they established in "The Cutie Map" and possibly have Spike develop a relationship with some stallion. Perhaps Shining Armor if he's meant to come to Ponyville and hang out with Twilight?

Twilight could deal with minor issues of jealousy (though they've beaten that dead horse quite enough so they might just avoid it  ) and we'll get much needed Spike character development! Possibly. If the conflict is simply not Twilight trying to regain and divert Shining Armor's attention away from Spike as they play and converse about hoofball, perhaps it could be one more about how, as you said, friends like Twilight and Shining can be close enough to be like Spike's family. It could simultaneously deal with living up to expectations, specifically in matters of sports prowess, with Spike not being the best at hoofball and believing he'll fail Shining at the Brotherhooves Social.

@, @@Wind Chaser, I don't know if either of you saw this hint from Coco Pommel's card, but this gave me an idea for Made in Manehattan.

Summary: The map calls Rarity to help preserve an old theater in a longtime community that is in need of repair.

Concept: Inspired by the back text of the card as well as the Rarity Micro. One day, the map calls Rarity to solve a friendship problem. Her cutie mark swirls above the middle of Manehattan, where My Fair Filly is being played. She takes the train there and sees Coco Pommel, who was succeeding, yet also unhappy with her work. As it turned out, there is an old theater in her neighborhood, which has been shut down for several years, but she wants to revive it and make it a a place ponies can go to once again. Rarity and Pommel agree to go, but the landpony (a male Earth pony in my headcanon) hasn't been able to find a tennant because the theater's too small, cramped, and can't work. Rarity finds this to be stuff and nonsense and reassures it can succeed. She needs to help negotiate with the rest of the community, but the community has tried and is now willing to give up. But Coco left the door, determined to rally even if others won't. So Rarity and Coco negotiate with several ponies from the faithful community to bring back a classic play, one that reminds the ponies there of the history of the city and neighborhood.

Moral: Just because you try and fail doesn't mean you should immediately quit. If you know something can work, be determined and keep trying. Success isn't easy or always sustainable, but it's very possible. But you also can't do it on your own. You need guidance from others to help support you and persevere.

Okay first some joke ones:

  1. Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?: Celestia finds out she's been a robot her entire life and now has to live with this massive change in her life.  Morale is that what's inside is what defines you, not your outsides.

  2. The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows: Pinkie Pie meets God and challenges him to a sugar eating contest. Equestria Girls universe is created as a result of the duel.
  3. Hearthbreakers: Entire musical episode feature Led Zeppelin as the sole artist for the episode. Ends with a Mane 6 cover of Stairway to Heaven

Okay now for a real ones:

  1. What About Discord?

  2. Plot: The Mane 6 sans Fluttershy, get really fed up with Discord and wishes he'd never existed and so erases himself from existence (not really) and the Mane 6 are now living in a dystopian Equestria where Celestia rules with an iron fist as per the trading card and the Mane 6 are the only ones who remember Discord and the normal universe.

  3. Morale: That the path to Hell is paved on good intentions. That just because your idea makes sense in your head doesn't mean it will translate out to the best idea in reality.

@@@Wind Chaser, I don't know if either of you saw this hint from Coco Pommel's card, but this gave me an idea for Made in Manehattan.

I saw the post about the cards on EQD post but didn't think much of it so I never looked at it. Now I realize I was wrong. After reading the card, your idea sounds pretty accurate. :) And I'd love for two Rarity-centered episodes though it could be possible that the map could also call someone else since the series is in need of same pairing episodes. I'd believe Twilight would be most suitable though she could likely end up as deadweight or steal the show.

More fun  :pinkie::

As for "The Hooffields and Mccolts", the title is an awesome play on the Hatfield-McCoy feud so this would be my guess.

Concept: Considering the historical feud was in Civil War and Reconstruction-era West Virginia and Kentucky and this was an all-out feud between an affluent timbering family and a family with great political clout, I imagine the cutie map would call upon Applejack and Twilight since Applejack fits the scenario very well and Twilight has a sort of rational, diplomatic mind and can pick up on issues between the families--coupled with her political position it could be helpful.

If a third comes along (I'd be happy with either a much-needed pairing episode or this unlikely trio), Fluttershy might be tasked for the mission for initial comedic effect and the fact that she has demonstrated openmindedness the most out of any of the Mane 6 time and time again, most prominently with how she was willing to accept Discord's reformation and explore Starlight's philosophy. Moreover I don't see Rarity well in this situation, I find Rainbow Dash's role could be better played by AJ, and Pinkie's already been selected for one mission and she already played a part to placate warring factions in "Over a Barrel"--though I (guiltily) love "You Got to Share, You Got to Care" and would love to hear an updated version, I think bringing her back would be too much of a callback to that episode.

Historically, there were many issues that the families fought over but I think the most suitable ones would be an issue over ownership and one dealing with the case of the relationship between Roseanna McCoy and Johnson Hatfield. I believe of the two the latter is more likely to be focused on in the episode as there is more to go on and they could make pretty funny references to the Capulets and the Montagues as well.

I think the initial confrontation could be about some property or possession dispute. The ponies attempt to rectify the situation through diplomacy and their own respective ways but ultimately all efforts are in vain. Fluttershy sees the romance brewing between the "Mccolt" and "Hooffield" while in the Appleloosa-like town overnight and envisions an opportunity for the two families to put an end to the long-running feud and bring about the signs of initial normalcy. The families end up reuniting after seeing the Mccolt mare and the Hooffield stallion in love with one another and lashing out at the ludicrous, irrational hatred each family shows one another.

Moral: Keeping a grudge with someone or a family serves no purpose. Showing love and compassion to another can bring you together and help bridge differences and even begin erasing the pain incurred or instigated by one another. You sometimes need to be the better person and overcome feelings of hate after someone wronged you to truly be happy because revenge helps nopony.

The other big feud would be the Martins & the Coys.  This feud ended when 2 members got married.  There are some folk songs about it & for a kid's cartoon it is a more likely ending.

Based on Season 5 so far, all these suggestions are probably better than what we will actually get :(

I can strengthen the reason for why a trio would be a good idea for that episode and why exactly Twilight, AJ, and Fluttershy.

They can all provide different styles of reasoning and diplomacy to the two families in the manner of the Aristotelian models of persuasion: logos, ethos, and pathos.

The appeal to logos, or the logical appeal, will come from Twilight as she has demonstrated herself to try to remain objective in times of dispute ("Trade Ya!") and to be a rationally-minded character. She's shown to use deductive and inductive reasoning well in "MMMystery on the Friendship Express" for example.

The appeal to ethos, or the ethical appeal, will come from Applejack as she manifests integrity and she upholds morality and ethics as best as she can--even if it may end up hurting somepony's feelings ("Leap of Faith"). Also since she comes from a similar background as the real-life Hatfields and McCoys--who I believe these two families will represent at least in some part--, she will take the same type of values to heart. AJ can gain the respect of the two families because of her similar living style and beliefs.

The appeal to pathos, or the emotional appeal, will come from Fluttershy as she has demonstrated compassion and kindness throughout the series and it is her "Element" after all, as well as her openminded and sympathetic nature she's shown towards both Discord and Starlight Glimmer's ideology.

Seeing as this would all fit their personalities well while demonstrating different tactics to diplomacy and putting your ideas forward, it would be pretty interesting.

Then the episode could have an additional moral about how everyone/everypony reacts differently to a form of appeal--some prefer objectivity and facts, while others may like to question the ethics of a situation or care about the character of the person they are having a dialogue with, and even others may care more about how the situation or plan will affect people personally or like more subjectivity. Thus, it could show that not one style of thinking or one style of argumentation is necessarily right.

I didn't pay much attention to that, but the trading card alone sounds like it has the makings of an incredible episode.

The mane attraction: Rarity is continuing to work for Sapphire shores as one of her clients, convinced that her work with the pop idol will help make her fashion the talk of the town. Unfortuantely, Sapphire shores has found herself slipping more and more in the charts with her being upstaged by other newer pop sensations, and is becoming more and more demanding. In her attempts to reclaim fame, Sapphire shores is turning to more outlandish and desperate show stunts to win back the crowd, with Rarity being more and more frazzled attempting to keep up with her demands, leading to her asking the other 5 for help in finishing her work ala Rarity takes manehattan. during this, Fluttershy ends up being summoned to the map room by her cutie mark (Twilight being out of the room due to helping rarity) and realizing that the map is tasking her alone with fixing a problem at the place where sapphire shores is.
Due to her normal shyness and being rather scared of being asked to do something alone that she has no clue about, Fluttershy hides this from the others.

During this flutteshy, who is a huge fan of Sapphire shores due to her love of singing, ends up talking with Sapphire and having a talk with her about how much she loves singing and wishes she had the courage to sing in front of others like sapphire shores, while sapphire shores tells Fluttershy that she's more concerned with winning back her fans than things like that.
Fluttershy realizes that the issue that Sapphire has is that she's forgotten WHY she became a pop singer in the first place: because she ENJOYED singing, not because she wanted fans, and convinces Sapphire that all she needs to do is remember why she wanted to sing in the first place.
Sapphire shores then goes on to write a song simply based on how she loves singing, has Fluttershy as a backup singer in her performance to help her get over her stage fright, and everything works out for the best.
