Here are the May 2015 Banner selections. The theme was Artists Choice (not Luna ... it just happened that way). Remember vote for your TOP THREE banners. Voting will close tentatively on Sunday 11:59 PM EST. Depending on votes cast we may extend it.

Of all the entries that I looked through, that was the one that truly got me with its singular design.

That's ny choice. <3

I chose entries #5, 6, and 11. They're each very well-composed, and the treat the logo as if they're part of the design while not being so busy and don't have it snugged tightly to the edge.

 

Of the three, the best is the fifth. You know where the eye's supposed to start. Not everything is stuck dead in the middle. Blue and orange are very well-balanced without being visually intrusive, very difficult to do considering their places on the color wheel. The best usage of the reference (both pop culture and Derpy) while still being subtle of it, and well-done typographical treatment. The one change I'd make is make "Thinking" one color; separating it midway makes "Thinking" look like "Thin King" without the space.

These banners all look really awesome and cool, but if I had to pick three of them I would pick:

It's so hard to choose, they're all great.

I'm a bit disappointed by the 14th: I love the style but the text covers Angel's face. :/

I'm now going to try and list good and bad about every banner!

First note: all of the ones without borders had their transparency set correctly, and since I've seen some banners that were just white backgrounds before, that's a good thing

Now for the individual ones...

1:
I like the look of the banner, it's very nicely done, the rainbow leading to the words looks very nice, and it's done well
The only negative I can really think is less about the banner and more about the banner being here. The colors look nice for a signature or something similar, but they don't quite match with the background up at the top.

Overall, well done, I hope that whoever did this will try to make another banner at some point, or possibly signatures, because as said before, something like this would look great as a sig

2:
This banner is done pretty well, I tend to like banners that have transparency, so that's a bonus too, the colors look pretty good at the top of the background, and overall it's a pretty good banner
However... The way the banner is done would look better, at least in my opinion, if it were resting on top of something, which sadly, it isn't :/
Overall though, it looks really nice, and the creator did a nice job

3:
This banner looks really nice too, the fact that it's Flutters gives bonus points in my book of course, the border effect, as well as all the shading, is done well to portray where in the picture things are and give a clear ending for the sig.
As will go for a lot of the banners though, the colors of the banner don't quite match up to the background as well as I'd hope, although other than that it looks great

My thoughts on this are pretty similar to my thoughts on number 3
It looks nice, and the borders and everything are well done, and of course, Vinyl is a cool looking pony
But, there is the problem of the colors matching the background, which is of course, not completely the creator's fault, as the colors aren't the easiest to build on, but it was the negitive that I saw.

I actually really like this one.
The colors look pretty good with the background to me, and I like the star effect, since that matches up to the background picture pretty well too.
It's pretty well done, and I'd be pretty happy to see it every time I'm on the forums
(The fact that it's best princess helps please don't hurt me, Celestial being)

I really like this one.
I haven't played portal yet, but I love the reference to the 'now you're thinking with portals' line, and it's really well done, the transparency looks really nice, and it's a nice banner.
I'm not quite sure whether it would fit the forums, since we're not mainly a gaming place, but it looks really nice, and if it doesn't get chosen, it would make a good banner for a ponies gaming community. (With the text changed to the community's name)

I'm honestly not quite sure what to say about this one.
It looks really nice, and is done pretty well, but it's not my particular favorite.
Good job though, and well done

This one is sort of neutral for me, it looks nice and is pretty well done, it just doesn't go well enough with the color of the background in my opinion.
But hey, it's a pretty nice banner, so try again sometime!

 

9:

This is another one that I really like.

Ignoring the fact that the person chose the best princess to use...

The way that this was made is pretty cool, I can see so many layers and transparency that would be required to make it, the colors look amazing too, they match up perfectly with the background, and it overall just looks amazing.

 

10:

This banner looks pretty nice, but, like a few others, it's not my particular favorite.

It might look better with some sort of border effect, but I don't particularly like it that much.

However, clearly some effort was put into it, so keep making banners and improving!

 

11:

This banner is one that looks better as a picture, in my opinion, it doesn't quite work right with the background, which is kind of sad, since the background can be great for Luna banners, but it looks amazing as a picture or sig, and I'd love to see some more art like this.

 

12:

This looks pretty good

We seem to have a lot of Luna popping up though

I'm not really sure what to say critically about this banner, other than the fact that the cropping takes away a bit of the charm by cutting off part of the paint spill.

It looks really nice though, and it deserves a few votes.

 

13:

This is another one that looks better as a sig or a picture, it's really nicely done, but it doesn't quite match the colors.

Though if I needed a sig done, I wouldn't turn away from this banner's creator.

 

14:

Eh, change how the words are shown a bit and this could be a pretty good banner, but covering up the subject's eyes isn't usually a good idea.

 

15:

Another nice banner

It looks really nice, and is well done, as with most, my main problem with it is the colors matching the background.

 

 

 

All:

I can see that the creators of all of these banners put some effort in, and it shows, we've got a good selection and I'd be happy with a lot of these banners, as my main problem with a lot of them is only when they're put up as the banner the colors don't work as well.

In the end though, my top three are numbers 9, 6, and 5.

The idea was to have the colours matching the background. The "Cool mint" summer theme of the banner was supposed to have a limited amount of colours.
