Newbie artist here

Ok, so I've just started doing some drawings with pencil and paper, but I'd like to be able to move my ideas along to a more finished product.  I see all of the OC's that people are creating with the finished look of the show with the colors and all that.  Is there a particular application/process that is used to get one of these finished pony OC creations?   I'm sure there's more than one way to skin a cat(pony?), so any and all methods are welcome.

How to make one from one of my ideas.  I'm interested in creating some OCs that are as good as some of the ones I see on this forum.

Well, a lot of those custom OC's are made in digitized painting programs, like Paint.SAI, which can be acquired for a rather affordable price (or through other methods, up to you).

They also generally include tablets, which can run you a pretty penny for an uber good one, but I've seen some artists stick with the basics that run about 50 dollars or so.

Awesome!   I was hoping for a simple answer like that.   I'm pretty familiar with Photoshop & other programs from my interest in photography.  Time to pick up Paint.SAI & start having some fun

Just a quick update here.   I ended up using Inkscape after doing some research.  There are a whole lot of youtube videos out there & it turns out it's pretty easy to use.  As a test, I'm working on colorizing a pencil drawing that Lauren Faust did of Pinkie Pie in here initial iteration when she was a pegasus pony.

Ok, my first try was to convert an original Pinkie Pie drawing done by Lauren Faust back when Pinkie Pie was supposed to be a pegasus pony.  Turned out pretty good for a first try.
