Glass is an amorphous solid, which means it's not a crystal. As a matter of fact it's sort of like a silica-based plastic, except instead of long chains of repeating molecular structures, it's one giant molecular glob. Every pane of glass you see is one giant molecule.

 

The urban legend that it "slowly melts" is based upon a different mechanical property of semi-crystalline materials called Creep, which behaves like melting in slow motion. (If you put an iron frying pan into an oven at 500ºF for six months, it would look like it half-melted. This is what creep is like.) Glass is subject to creep if it is extremely poorly made and contains large amounts of iron impurities.

 

Mass-manufactured glass achieves its clear flatness by being floated across molten baths of tin when it's still yellow-hot.
