If the Sirens don't eat hate they can die of starvation?

From this part in the movie Aria talks about how she's tired of fast food (describing this in a fast food establishment with correlation) and that she needs a meal.

So what does this say? It's necessary for the Sirens to use their gems to absorb hate without the gems they won't be able to absorb hate (the green mist was absorbed by the gems) and they can't sing to cause hate either. Meaning they can die of starvation.

In the end of Rainbow Rocks they're gems were shattered by Twilight and crew. It showed they couldn't sing properly but by the above explanation they may die of starvation later. Is this a cruel faith for the Sirens?

I daresay they're different things. They can eat real food and that will give them energy to stay alive. Feeding off hate, however is what gives them power. Feeding off hate makes them stronger and greater, whilst food is capable of simply keeping them sustained.

As some of the others said, they seem to eat hate for the power, and not for actual nutrition. We can see by the fact that one of them is excited by tacos that they can probably eat normal food.

That brings the question what do they eat in equestria (actual nutrition).... and more over how did they adapt in the huiman world, beacuse EQ1 Twi had to learn the hard way life in the human world, how did the Sirens know about the human world before they were banished?

Maybe the sirens are not actually physical beings, but only "spiritual" ones. When the gems are broken, we see that the 3 sirens are confused and sing like crap. Maybe the gems are only a medium for the sirens to express themselves, and they need a sort of physical host so that they can use their magic. We didn't really see them before EQG2, so they probably got in the human world some time after EQG1, or they were somewhere else during the first movie.

Or...

Doctor Deux Ex Machina. They need to get him in EQG3, or at least in episode 100.

(edited)

Maybe they can still find a way to eat hate without the gems. Hate is easy to find without magically forcing others to make it. Just have to know the right people to look for and the right triggers. ;)

Though if the Sirens locate the portal or another, they can return to Equestria to get another set of gems.

I doubt the Sirens can return to Equestria after all Starswirl the Bearded forced them into Equestria Girl Universe as a way of imprisoning them when they were causing trouble in Equestria.

My guess is those gems were given by Starswirl the Bearded so they can use them to survive.

They probably need to eat "regular food" to mantain their bodies even with their magic (otherwise Sonata would never developed a "sweet tooth" for tacos).

They feed from emotions in order to boost their powers, but without "Equestrian Magic", the only thing they can do with "the raw power of distrust" is just stopping their aging [keeping themselves young for more than a thousand years].

The sirens never knew about the portal (or the true origin of Sunset and Twilight); otherwise they will have tried to go back to Equestria [the "storybook animation" seems to sugest they were pulled trough a temporary RIFT in space, instead of a permanent portal].

The mirror/gateway between worlds probably acts like a firewall, catching any attempt to access Equestria and forcing it to open trough it (that way it could be "guarded" by Celestia, Cadance or Twilight in case they try to come back); the limitation for normal access on just a few days per every two-and-a-half years is just to minimize the chance of accidental travelers.

Well they take the physical form of a human, So it probably has the same digestive system, So they can eat. I dunno if it satisfies their needs for hate or not, But this is the logical answer.

In my opinion I don't think they can't starve to death without hate because they were eating fast food. I don't think they can die of starvation without hate. I think fast food or human food will keep them un hungry but not satisfied. I think only hate can make them satisfied but the can eat human food and survive. I don't know that's just my opinion! :)

I think not... I think if they don't feed, they become the opposite of powerful, which is weak. They still eat human food.  :D  :squee:  ;)

First of all, consumption of human food does not imply nutritional benefit. It may merely be a treat, explaining why Sonata would be excited for tacos even though sirens feed on hate.

Secondly, there are differences to consider between worlds. It may be that in Equestria feeding on hate sown by their singing actually nourishes them, keeping them alive, but also making them powerful if there is enough, whereas in the EQG world they have human bodies that rely on human food, but need hate to feed their magic. If this is the case, the breaking of the gems would simply starve their magic, making them ordinary humans.

If they do require hate to sustain their human forms, then they will wither away. One thing I am unsure of is whether they need the gems to feed on hate, or if the gems preserve their singing magic. If that is the case, hatred may still nourish them, though they will be unable to sing or gain greater power from negativity.

Perhaps Sunset Shimmer will teach them friendship and how to thrive without hatred.

She needs a meal because all they've been eating was fast food. That stuff messes you up good. As someone else said, they could survive on normal means, feeding off emotions give the power and magic, rather than feeding them traditionally

I agree with the idea that normal food keeps their human bodies sustained, while the gems are just to absorb power to use their siren forms and junk.

He did banish them, but I think it was under the assumption that the gateway between the two worlds would be forever closed, or that there would be none after he banished them?

I mean, nothing's stopping them from finding the portal and going through it (as humans anyway), so technically, they might be able to return to Equestria. Unless there's like some magical force that does prevent them?
