One thing I loved about the EG movies

I watched the movies, and found them to be pretty good. Decent music, the character designs have grown on me over time, all in all good movies for younger and older fans. Certainly suited more for the younger crew, but a very good watch. I do prefer the regular show, as is the general sentiment it seems, but I wanted to make one comment on something I absolutely loved about the movies.

In the high school setting, many fans on here and elsewhere have commented on how the movies could address LGBT issues. I read these, and thought about it for some time, and finally decided I'm very glad they didn't - before you jump on me, here is why.

Despite whatever anyone thinks on LGBT issues, to add them to the movies would be completely irrelevant and horribly tacked on. Including them as a central theme would detract from the main storylines. Including them as a side story would not allow such a theme to be explored fully, and make it feel extraneous. Including them as an aside would feel as if it were pandering. They made the best possible decision - don't bring it up at all.

Not every movie or story needs to include every theme. For an example, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace tried to bring up the matter of population displacement and racism with the Gungans - Jar Jar Binks' race. It was completely idiotic, because it was not the right movie or setting. Even though MLP:EG could have these issues included, it would not be the best avenue for discussing LGBT topics. Other arenas explore the topics more fully and in a better setting, and many more will come about. Equestria Girls has a singular focus that it does well - friendship during a tumultous time. Am I saying these topics should never be brought up? Absolutely not! They should be discussed. A different show, a different cartoon, a different movie could explore them much MUCH better than MLP:EG ever could.

Not trying to offend, just sharing my opinion.

Could it even bring this stuff up?

Personally, I don't think it could - and if it tried, it would be impossible (to me) to be done well. A lot of fellow fans I know have wanted this covered, and I've seen a few things on here. I also know there was, after the first movie, a small group who sent letters and such to have it added to the next.

Equestria Girls is no Daria when it comes for potential to tell deep societal issues and stuff. But it doesn't have to be and can definitely live with being fun and light hearted, and hopefully devoid of romantic drama.

Are their any cartoons currently airing that deal with High School life? It feels like EQG has the monopoly on this setting, so people want it to tackle all high school themes, even the harder ones.

This wouldn't be a problem of we had a Daria reboot :(

dear lord no. Don't bring LGBT, racism, or any other controversial issue to the table in MLP. Wrong flagship, as too many people would say it's trying to brainwash the young.

Yeah, people would. I'm glad MLP has avoided all this - not everything needs to controversial.
