My $.02: I don't care how offended iTunes was with The Last Round-Up. Someone at DHX should have given them the finger and pulled it off of their service completely. Tabitha nailed Derpy the first time she voiced her, and to this day, changing the recording in that scene with Rainbow Dash was still the worst decision they could have made. It was way more apparent back then that Derpy was mentally handicapped, and at the same time, it made her sound genuinely adorable. Her voice really sold the innocence of a child in her character, so you couldn't show contempt for her no matter how badly she screwed things up.

And now we get Slice of Life. Tabitha's reinterpretation of Derpy here wasn't necessarily "bad". But now, having way more dialogue to work with, combined with a more natural-sounding voice and a lisp? She just she comes off as more clumsy than anything else. Yes, she wants to do what's right and make ponies happy. But to me, that child-like personality Tabitha conveyed before felt sort of watered down. In fact, Derpy sounds a lot like someone I could have known from a previous job. I still like her as a pony. It just seems to me that the only thing she still has that makes her feel special are those derped eyes.

What do you think?

I always thought clumsy was the whole point with her though? I liked the original voicework for Derpy that Tabitha did, but honestly I already love Slice of Life's version way more. It is a lot more coherent but it still has that sense of dopiness to it, which makes it very cute but not trying too hard to make her sound overly dumb. I like that a lot more personally. I still think she had a very child like aspect to her voice, it just was not quite as dopey sounding as the original.

In my opinion; New Derpy voice > Old voice. Both of them are world's better than the 'edited' version of the Last Roundup though.

I agree with what appears to be the overwhelming sentiment here.  Personally, I prefer Tabitha's Slice of Life voice to her original Last Roundup voice (though as others have said, both are leagues ahead of the edited Last Roundup voice, that bucking trash physically hurts me  :okiedokielokie:).  What clinches it for me is that Tabitha never said she was trying to convey in the Last Roundup that Derpy was special needs; she's been very open that she originally thought Derpy was supposed to have a boy's voice, which actually explains very much how deep the original voice was.  It's still great, but this was more coherent, feminine, and just better for a character in a starring role, not just a 2 minute bit.  It also, I guess, fits my head canon better since I've always just considered Derpy to be especially clumsy, not special needs, even in her original Last Roundup appearance.  That's not to say that if that's your head canon it's wrong, by all means, if that's how someone interprets Derpy more power to them, and whether she's just clumsy or special needs, she can certainly stand as a lovable inspiration to others.  But for me, this entire episode, the voice, the mannerisms, her behavior, it fit my own head canon to a T.  :muffins:

I knew Tabitha thought Derpy was supposed to sound like a boy, but that's not what I picked up when I first heard her talk. She felt like an overgrown filly to me. A very lovable filly, but a baby nonetheless. It's no wonder she has so many fans. I thought it instantly made her 10x cuter than Fluttershy.

She's still clumsy, but while her new voice is admittedly endearing, she also sounds more mature now. That took away some of the charm for me.

I honestly don't care who voices Derpy.

Tabitha voiced Derpy in both episodes. She just did it differently.

So, there are a total of three Derpy voices, correct?  Original Last Roundup, edited Last Roundup, and Slice of Life, right?  I'd like to pretend the edited Last Roundup voice never existed.  It was a shame that had to happen in the first place.  Now, for me, in my mind, her original Last Roundup voice will always be Derpy's voice, but that may just be because it was the original, the first time she spoke.  But objectively speaking, I think her Slice of Life voice was actually the best.  I think it suited her best.  It was really well done.

Also, I was thrilled that she had so many lines.  After the sh*tstorm that was Last Roundup, I didn't think we'd ever hear her voice again.

Woah, I'm in the minority here

I prefer by far her original voice:

Right there with ya, Blobulle! Derpy used to be unique and lovable. Now...this new voice has definitely put me off. I also didn't care for Octavia's voice. On the other hoof, Dr Hooves wasn't bad, and I did happen to love Lyra's voice! (I just looked it up and it now makes sense as to why I loved it! haha) as well as liking Bon Bon's.

In summary, I can't understand the appeal of some of these new voices, Derpy's least of all. Tabitha should keep Luna and Derpy's voices true to their original's from now on.

I loved Derpy's first voice, and was heartbroken when they changed her, but to be honest, I really like this new voice too. They captured the spirit of Derpy's character, which is something they do well on this show with all their voices.

However, just as a point of correction, it wouldn't be in DHX's hands to decide whether or not a change will be made. They're just the company contracted to make the show. The decision lies with Hasbro, who isn't about to throw away a huge contract over a little bit of voice work.

I think the 3ed voice is fine,  given its Derpy but people will like the first,  hate the

new and find something to pick at!   I think as Fans of Derpy overall we should be

just be happy she got a main branch in a EP and was able to top and hopefully we

will get more of our Mailmare!

I feel like a lot of fans of the show misinterpret the intention with which Derpy is displayed. She isn't meant to be mentally handicapped or anything - she is meant to represent a slightly clutzy girl with her head in the clouds who finds fun in things others wouldn't.

You know, in a way there is a sort of artistic beauty to it. Derpy is really becoming one of my favorite characters.

So wait I'm confused, did three different voice actresses voice Derpy or all one voice actress because I vaguely remember her voice in Last Roundup and there's an edited Last Roundup? Sorry to be confused, but I am lol.

I don't know about the Last Round-Up edit, but the original and the new one in Slice of Life were both voiced by Tabitha.

Well, since I first saw Last Roundup via Netflix back in April 2013, I heard the edited voice first. That edited voice is what popped into my head, whenever I think of her saying something. Personally, when I heard her original voice, it sound too "mumbly" to me. I think Slice of Life is now how I officially hear her when I read a line of hers. This is a nitpick for me though.

To me, Derpy is clumsy, but very well-meaning. And she can be called by any of her other names. Ditzy Doo and Muffins!

In before "Derpy's many voices means that she's also a secret agent, like Sweetie drops"

Honestly, I'm not sure which voice I like best. I'm more accustomed to the unedited Last Roundup voice, as it sounded more unique and made her stand out. The Slice of Life voice sounds too similar to the voices that most other ponies have, in my opinion. But maybe I'm just not fully used to it, yet

How do you know that Derpy's voice was Tabitha St. Germain? The best thing I know about her voice is at "The Last Roundup" is at the original and "Slice of Life" is pretty light.
