Let me just start by saying, this is gonna be BIG! Its gonna take the world by storm! Actually im just saying this might be a long post, and its even longer now that im putting thi... God i need sleep. ONWARD!!

I hate it, and i hate myself for it, but i also love it. I am obssesed with progress; i vilify going backwards, its pointless to me. This is a great boon in many ways. One that stands out the most, i loooovvee any progress made in the show, new characters, new locations, etc. I loved when Discord was reformed, I loved when cadence was introduced, I loved the crystal empire/ponies, I loved Somba, I loved when twilight became an alicorn. I could go on. Needless to say, my enjoyment of new content is always high because of this.

The ONLY episodes i didnt like were "It aint easy being breezies" and "Pinkie Pride", but thats a topic for another day.

But every action has an equal and opposite reaction. This mentality has a bane as well. As i said, I HATE going backwards. I can watch old episodes, but my enjoyment is to the point i may as well not watch them. This carries over to many areas of the fandom, but ill use examples of a profound one: Fanfiction.

I CAN NOT read/enjoy fics that:

A} Feature Twilight pre-alicorn. I bet you can already see the problem here. Thats like 3 years of quality writing i wont enjoy

Or

B} EQG fics that take place pre-RR. You can also see the problem there, thats about 50% (citation needed) of EQG fics right there.

There is some exceptions when it comes to prequals, as those are meant to shed backstory, and before-the-fact stuff, but it still applys somewhat.

So there you have it, my double-edged sword of mlp, so to speak. Do any of you feel similar. Mabye you do, but less radical than me. Or mabye your thinking of offensive words to call me right now! Whatever it is, this a forum, put it below.

First of all:

i didnt like were "It aint easy being breezies" and "Pinkie Pride"

Finally. I almost thought that I'm the only one who don't like Pinkie Pride.

I can understand you. I think that we have similar problems, but in my case just with the fanfics(it doesn't matter if the fic is a modified universe). As the show, hm, It's not a problem for me to watch the older episodes, cuz I enjoy them equally as the news but It bugs me sometimes that I know what will happen. Personally I consider the show as a game. I like playing through good games many times even if I have saves I load them and play from there.

I am confused. Not sure if you were hyped up on sugar or caffeine, but your post is difficult to follow and is all over, and I am not sure of your point. Are you saying you love MLP but don't like a lot of fan fic?

On the bright side, fics will come out (and are coming out) with the newer things established. Twilight has only been an alicorn for a season and a little bit, while she has been a unicorn for 3 seasons. So, by the end of season 6, should have more than enough fics with Twily as an alicorn (though personally I already see a lot :o). Same for Rainbow Rocks (and the third movie).

Though, personally, I don't mind going back to the old. I just adjust my mindset so that I'm more in the past. So if I read a Sombra backstory fic from 2014, I'll just pretend the Fiendship is Magic comics don't exist, or just treat it as an AU (which every fic is, I suppose).

Edit: Oh hey, I'm a muffin now :D

The term progress is different by everyone's standards. Not sure how any of what you said was progress, all of that being added to me sounds like unnecessary filler that dilute the goodness of the show. When you just keep adding stuff into it the characters lose a lot of their value. It's expected for a show aimed at selling toys but I don't like it, this is why marketing ruins everything. Of course for people like you it would be something you like.

Revealing Fluttershy's parents or her past should be a longer project of multiple clues and hints, if they just show it, it becomes anti-climactic, that's just one example. I prefer the show pumping out episodes relative to the currently existing characters. This is probably why Season 1 and 2 were the best, where the characters were more focused and there wasn't all this fluff being thrown around.

It's like if you're a painter you can paint 100 paintings but only take a few minutes with each and lay them out there's not much to look or care about them because not enough effort was put into them now if you have 3 pieces that took months to paint those will be worth looking at.

I can watch Season 1 and 2 episodes over and over. Season 3 and beyond I can only watch once and not look back.

This is what i cant do, adjust my mind back to an old setting. I know whats gonna happen because it already happened. This a big problem (for me) with older fics, the entire story explains things in a different way the show did.

To other people, im not stating a problem that needs to be "fixed", as it is also a good thing, like when people complain about episodes they didnt like, i almost never have that problem. Just my mentality, and if anyone else feels similar, or at least on the same vein.

I personaly don't have a problem with fics using lore we only knew in earlier seasons, in fac, I find refreshing when I read a pre-alicorn Twi fic  ;) . But I don't read many of those, it's not like there are many around anymore  :dash:

Wow, you are not alone one this. I am the exactly the same here. I am obsessed with progress that gets made in the show and it makes going back to the older episodes harder for me. My biggest obsession has been Twilight as a princess. I love that so much that I pretty much almost dislike any past thing of her not being a princess. That might seem really weird but that is a thing for me. So pretty much I personally enjoy most everything from Twilight being a princess onwards.

Also, this is a huge spoiler for season 5 finale thing:

This is why I cannot stand the synposis for the season 5 finale. Apparently it will be a timeline alteration where Starlight prevents the original Sonic Rainboom, the others do not get their cutie marks, Twilight does not become a princess, and so on. This, really irritate the hell out of me. I mean, of course it is just a little time alteration thing and by the end of the finale it will all be back to normal, but am I the only one who hates this concept in the first place?

I totally feel you with the princess thing, although it doesnt make me dislike the older stuff, it does feel weird to me.

But i dont have a problem with the synopsis, because they are still making progress... By going back in time. (Isnt that weird to think about?)

I suppose. I still really don't like the synopsis much at all but if it does end up making progress and not reversing progress (which I don't think it will do), then I can be fine with it. I have weird senses of paranoia with some things.

Mmmm kind of. When I see clips or images of pre-Alicorn Twilight, it more fills me with a sense of what I can only describe as "whiplash nostalgia" rather than revulsion or a sense of dissonance.

Fics I have even less an issue with, because Twilight was becoming an alicorn loooooooong before it was canonnized.  ^_^

I just can't take this show seriously like I do with Avatar or any anime title. So any continuity doesn't really make the show better to me. I watch it with the same way I watch South Park, Spongebob Squarepants or Simpsons and that's how I got to watching it in the first place. It was basically South Park without the toilet/adult humor.
