Why doesnt vinyl scratch talk?

I'd say they probably would give her a voice...... IF they could hire Nowacking to do the voice... Until they do that... Vinyl likely won't have a voice ever in the show, because as somepony above mentioned, we'd all probably have like a fandom-wide aneurism if Vinyl opened her mouth and out came anything but that specific voice. :mustache:

Yeah, someone tweeted Larson about this:

(Edit: Well, that's in-universe. Did you mean the actual real life reason?)

"She didnt feel like talking in the episode"

which implies that she CAN talk :o

I can see it now, Equestria girls 3

Octavia spoke in rainbow rocks and then she

spoke in the cartoon which means that

if vinyl speaks in the 3rd movie

SHE WILL SPEAK IN THE CARTOON

Obviously its to be PC and not screw up like they did with a certain character in the past angering many.  :muffins:  :derp:

The more practical answer though for the purpose of the show is that Vinyl is wearing hear headphones and listening to heavy and loud music 99% of the time. I have seen it IRL enough to know that it happens. Teens and folks often hook up to their phones and drowning out the world with their music and media and unless they want to talk to you, which is rare, or you manage to yank their earbuds out, they won't hear you anyways.

I'm not saying Vinyl can't hear what others tell her, but she's likely shut off from much of the outside world, both voluntarily and involuntarily.

As Sectus said above, I like that she doesn't talk. It's interesting by adding curiosity to her character. As for why she doesn't talk, it's most likely because if the voice wasn't Nowacking, bronies would get mad and have a hissy-fit for a couple of weeks. (And then after those couple of weeks, everything would continue as normal. Remember Twilicorn?)

I wondered about that too. Maybe DJ Pon-3 (or Vinyl Scratch if you want to call her that) has some sort of disability which prevents her from speaking?

We won't find out until we found out.

Maybe it's just her character: she listens to her music and doesn't like to talk.

I really wonder if it has something to do with Nowacking.

Why does she NEED to talk? That's a better question to ask.

In spite of all the fan favorie secondary six pones being gven screen time, and 5 ofthe 6 being given voices, why do some in the fandom still cry for Vinyl, that one last “secondary six” background pony to have a voice, likely losing that trait that makes her all the more unique in a world of already talking ponies?

It's evident from Vinyl's character- where she's seen with headphones on as she's walking through the town- that she doesn't want to be bothered- as having music in your ears amongst a crowd is pretty evident that you don't want to talk to anyone, and just be left alone. Speaking from example, here. So why would Vinyl even need a voice if it's her choice- not only seen in the 100th episode, but even way back, in "Music to my ears", that she doesn't want to engage in conversation with anypony else? (though that's not to say if they jump in front of her and try to engage in conversation, she won't help them. She's just (presumably) willingly mute, not rude)

not having a voice makes her all the more unique, when everyone else has a voice of their own. It's cooler that an artist like Vinyl speaks through her music and body language anyway. Actions speak louder than words, after all.

She doesn't speak because Hasbro doesn't want her to speak. Larson's original script actually had her with speaking lines but the folks from above told him explicitly that she does not talk.

Vinyl is mute, so says Hasbro, so shall it be.

I don't know why she didn't speak in the 100th episode, but I have a feeling that she will talk some day.

Because Hasbro knows bronies will outrage if it isn't senp-I mean Nowacking doing her voice.

I really don't think that's true.

I honestly don't care who voices Vinyl Scratch.

nice knowing that all of the fandom is made up of clones of you, and you all share the same opinion.

IIRC, Vinyl didn't speak in the EQ movies & there was some speculation that she was mute. In the episode it isn't really clear if she is mute or can speak but doesn't.  AFAIK, most mute people are also deaf, which she clearly isn't.

What you just said goes along better with what Jammity said.

He said that the fandom will get angry if Vinyl isn't voiced by NoWacking; implying that the entire fandom will be angry.

A few theories from me:

1. She is constantly listening to music so she cannot actually hear anypony and she just takes really good guesses at what they are saying/needing.

2. She is deaf because of her constant loud music listening habits (which goes to the guessing thing again) She then would be feeling the vibrations from the music.

3. She doesn't speak for comedic effect.

My bad theories aside, I prefer her not speaking, it makes her character much more charming for some reason.
