King 5,625 July 1, 2015 Share July 1, 2015 Dirty Bomb is a free to play PC game developed by Splash Damage, creators of 'Enemy Territory:Quake Wars' and 'Brink'. The game is an objective focused first person shooter in which teams of six, seven or eight go up against an enemy team of similar numbers. The attacking team has to complete a series of objectives within a time period whilst the defending team has to stop them. The game is currently in open beta and has so far been applauded by critics and players alike for its fun, fast paced objective focused gameplay (say that with one breath). If anyone here has played Dirty Bomb, how do you currently feel about the state of the game? Who is your favourite merc? What is your favourite gametype?

Kyoshi Frost Wolf 39,947 July 1, 2015 Share July 1, 2015 I have not played it myself (I no PC gamer) but I have watched some videos on it and it looks stellar for a free-to-play shooter. :3 I would absolutely love to see this come to Xbox One considering the overall lack of squad-objective based games on the system currently. I watched Angry Joe's video on it first and that video was...horrible. Absolutely terrible. He basically could not stop going on and on about the business model in the game and probably drove many people away with what he said, even though he did not know how the system worked. Oh, and he spent like $55 of donation money to him on some of the 'elite' cases which as far as I know aren't really worth anything anyways. REally made my respect for him drop a bit. Then I watched TotalBiscuit's video on it (55 minutes long that one) and I understood the game far more and now I would love to play it. I would definitely be a medic for most of it. VengefulStrudel 1,486 July 1, 2015 Share July 1, 2015 At least Joe's video is a good representation of what a newcomer's experience might be, if I were to buy an "elite case", I'd expect it to have mainly those Gold thingies, since "elite" is in the title. Now if it was simply "case" or something, I'd expect mostly Silvers. Having "elite" in the title but making them not worth anything is rather counter-intuitive. Not saying the game is good or bad, just saying those would be my assumptions as someone who hasn't looked into the game at all.
King 5,625 July 1, 2015 Author Share July 1, 2015 The business model in the game is a little weird but not as bad as some people make out. I can break it down into three areas, though Im only personally familiar with two of them: Loadout Cards Essentially there are 6 tiers of loadout cards: Lead - A set of weapons + 1 perk Iron - A set of weapons + 2 perks Bronze - A set of weapons + 3 perks Silver - A set of weapons + 3 perks Gold - A set of weapons + 3 perks Cobalt - A set of weapons + 3 perks The only cards that increase your ability on the battle field are lead to bronze, everything past bronze is purely cosmetic. When you buy an elite case you are promised something that is at minimum a silver card so essentially you're buying a chance at one of the top three tiers of bling levels. You can purchase normal cases in game for about 1000 credits which you can earn easily if you play a few matches each day, especially considering you get a bonus for playing your first match each day plus completing the challenges that cycle every 3 hours. Bronze cards can be crafted fairly easily if you sacrifice 3 ( maybe 4, I forget) iron cards and pay a fee of 1000 credits. So essentially, getting the top tier of perks is fairly easy for anyone willing to play a few hours of the game. Mercenaries/Characters/Classes People can purchase mercs if they want access to them permanently as people are only given permanent access to 3 at the beginning. It's about $10 to purchase a merc. Otherwise they rotate temporary access to 3 additional mercs every month (I believe, could be longer) allowing people to play those 3 mercs even if they haven't bought permanent access to them, allowing people to test out all the characters available in game. Credit Boosters The game also allows players to buy boosters that increase the amount of credits they earn from each match within a certain time limit. Plenty of MMOs and F2P games this and it's never really been much of an issue unless those credits can be used oti buy OP weapons and such. Im not that familiar with the boosters in this game as I haven't bought any. Overall I haven't seen any real pay to win features in the game. VengefulStrudel 1,486 July 1, 2015 Share July 1, 2015 So essentially, when you buy an elite case you're guaranteed as much as there is gameplay-wise, and only the skins are up to luck? Well, that sounds fair. If that's the case, I think Joe really misrepresented the game with that vid...

Yeah, the only thing you're buying with an elite case is better looking skins for a random character. The top three tiers of cards are only bling, they do nothing stat wise that bronze doesn't do.
