I am interested in the various techniques that the people on DeviantArt who create the awesome images i see use to create them.  I've just started with using InkScape to create pony artwork from existing images, but I'd like to hear about some of the techniques that you have for creating these awesome original images that I am seeing.

Hey! I'm on deviantart (my names Fia94), and while my art isn't that good, I'm learning and improving everyday :)

I use PaintTool SAI for my drawings, and I use a tablet..

To be honest, most of the people on DA are lovely and willing to help - so if you see an artist whose style you like, just ask them for some advice!

Also, I learned a lot from watching their drawing videos - mostly the videos done by KPShadpwSquirrel - I love his style and the videos really helped me :) xx

I made a video about how I draw ponies but unless you want to see it it's embarrassing >///< I used to suck at drawing ponies especially when I attempted MLP style but as saw other peoples art, over time, I learned to improve my own. Example:

Sometime in 2012:

One of my most recent (pony) drawings:

Im ARSwinton on deviantart. Even though I'm not a particularly good artist or even an artist at all, one thing that always help is practice. Even tracing helps! You get familiar with all your tools and everything at your disposal. You'd be surprised how many functions Inkscape offers. Speedpaints are good and all but they can be rather overwhelming :P Also if you see some effect you like on someone's art, just ask, they're usually happy to help.

My DA is in my signature. And the first thing I do when I draw is make a sketch, Then a new layer with line art, Then a layer beneath the line art with color. I don't use inkscape though.

Made this a few days ago by doing that :)

Another thing I've learnt since I've started making adopts (Lord Swinton on DA) is that when designing a character, it is best to do it in the most minimalistic way until you're satisfied and then vector over it :P
