If you were to make a movie of your favorite game

Well, if you were a movie maker, and were given the opportunity to direct a film adaptation of your most favorite video game, how would you handle things? Which actors would you hire? If it were to have special effects, which company would you pick up? Would it be animated of live-action? Which writers do you believe would be the most appropriate? And what kind of changes would you make to the story to better fit the movie format while staying as faithful as possible to the source material? You can discuss these and other questions in this topic.

Hoo boy. What IS my favorite game...?

A movie based on Starbound would be awesome, I think. Plenty of leeway in casting since there are no established characters and multiple races, and the story is shaping up to have an epic conclusion.

A Borderlands movie would be hilarious. You'd need some buff-as-heck comedians, however.

Wait a sec. Why haven't I suggested a Fallout movie? They actually have a script for that floating around, roughly tracing the path of the first game. It sounded great, but sadly they dropped the project.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. movie.

I'll request that they have people posted at the entrance to the showings to say:

"I said come in, don't just stand there!"

and

"Get out of here STALKER!"

If i would make Movie Adaptions, i would choose the Silent Hill Franchise.

I would use some CGI Monsters but some of the bosses from the game would be like reallife size puppets like in Aliens or The Thing.

I would keep all the talking sequences from the Games but maybe add some characters, that instead of exploring all the locations like in the game ( which would take to long ) that sometimes just new members of the Cult or such would give the Main Character some information about whats going on.

Also i would like to add scenes in which the Monsters are fighting each other sometimes, instead of just the protagonist.

And the Cult Members in the Movie would even have powers to control the nightmare world.

I would adapt the main series as liveaction and if they will be sucessful, i would add a Spinoff Tv Series in animestyle which would adapt the graphic Novels of Silent Hill and Spinoff Games.

And by Silent Hill 2, i would also make a minimovie based on Scenario B on The Directors Cut version and would only release it on later dvds as the Directors Cut Version of the Movie, like the game did

I've been waiting for (or wanted to make) a thread like this. OK. Here's what I would do for an RPG game. Let's say Fallout.

Rules:

  1. It can not be based on any of the games in the past, the writing team makes an entirely new Fallout campaign in a new world.
  2. The lead actor can be ANYONE. Male, Female, (maybe trans). The actor holds full creative control of their character. This also applies to any supporting roles. Because I believe that if the person has full creative control, they would provide a better performance.
  3. No references or nods to past games unless it's relevant to the plot.

Now the writing team helps build a world around the lead actor; while the lead actor interacts with the world around. Now as they are writing the story (with the actors, lead and supporting), they can play it like a PNP game. Rolling the dice to see if an actor achieves the desired action. Here is the kicker. The lead actor can be evil. I am not so sure about it but what about something like chaotic good? That could work.

For the super mutants? I would really like it if it had a mix of CGI and puppets like the Where the Wild Things Are movie. Or dare I say it, the Ted movie CGI. I am still mind blown by the CGI in that movie. It is perfect. If I can have something like that I'd be happy with CGI focused super mutants.

Ghouls? It MUST be Where the Wild Things Are CGI techniques. Makup on the actors faces then add any needed CGI effects.

Robots must be guys in suits. There is no excuse. Eyebots could be a thing on a stick with green screened bodysuit guys holding it up and making it float everywhere. But the securitrons? Guys in suits. No excuse. Get Jim Henson or the Weta Workshop to make it work.

Now a matter of the inventory. I like to picture the Pip Boy being able to rezz in and rezz out a weapon. So the whole weight gain thing in the games would be changed to the limit a Pip Boy can store inside it.

Ideally Vin Diesel would be great for the lead since he's into D&D, but I am afraid he might end up making a Riddick type character.

At least that is my two cents on what if I were to make a movie based on a video game.
