movies/tv Shows You liked That That Ended Up Being Cancelled

Were there any TV shows you liked or started to get interested in, but were cancelled after a season, or even less?

For me, it was a show from '01/02 called Wolf Lake. Starring an actor you might have heard of, Lou Diamond Phillips, as a detective searching for his missing fiancee, when a cryptic phone call leads him to a town called Wolf Lake, where everyone is hiding secrets from him, but the biggest one: the town is full of werewolves.

Not only was the premise and characters interesting, but the music score, the feel, the intrigue, the eeriness, the atmosphere, all got me hooked. Sadly it was scrapped after 13 episodes and ended on a cliffhanger.

Just have a look at the intro and tell me you aren't interested.

...Invader Zim. Dear God...even though I was only 3 or 4 at the time, I loved the show. Rewatching it years later, it's brought back good memories. BRING IT BACK, JHONEN!

Cat-Scratch on Nickelodeon. It was a show that while not being the best ever or anything, it was still entertaining. The main characters were all unique and had good interactions too, I remember liking it a good amount, but if I recall it barely last a season or two and I don't know why.

Oh, I used to love that show. The characters were funny, and the plots were quite good. Doug TeNapel, who is also the creator of Earthworm Jim, put his surrealism and humor to good use on the show.

The creator of Earthworm Jim worked on that show? :o That explains quite a lot actually. It's a shame it got canceled so quickly, I never understood why.

Not only did he work on it, he CREATED it. They cancelled it to make way for stuff like Fartboy and Crap Crap.

Reboot. While it may have lasted a few season, the series was cancelled following a massive cliffhanger that was only (possibly) resolved years later by a web-comic the creators declared canon (though more than a few fans don't).

Transformers Animated. Prime killed Animated, plain and simple. There was an entire season already planned and more than enough hanging plot threads to keep going, but the series was rushed to a conclusion prematurely so Hasbro could wheel out Prime, which I think is nowhere near as good.

Futurama is definitely one that I wish hadn't been cancelled, the later seasons may not have been as good as the previous, but they were still entertaining (and many had intelligent storylines/ideas in them).

Another is Firefly - granted I only got into it this year, it's a shame that it was cancelled (at least we got Serenity to end it with a bang).

And what do these two shows have in common...Fox! (Granted Futurama was taken on by comedy central before being cancelled again, but Fox were the original cancellors)

I would have to say Firefly was the tv show I watched, it was cancelled after only 1 season and then it had one movie. I am a big fan of firefly but was upset when they cancelled it :( :(

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Perhaps this was one of the greatest shows on TV. Seeing all of those reactions of lives being changed by a community coming together to do something made me smile every single time I watched it. It was hard hearing some of the backstories of the families, but in the end, I enjoyed every single minute of it.

Sadly, this show was cancelled because it just wasn't making enough to stay on TV. I was very disappointed to hear this. However, the thing that's still ticking me off up to this day is that "The Real Housewives" hasn't been cancelled yet...

Yeah, ReBoot was great! I don't know about where you were, but in the UK they stopped airing it early, about 2/3 the way through season 3 because I think it was deemed by the powers that be to be getting too dark. I only recently even got to the actual cliffhanger. Great show, really was.

Buffy, Firelfy, and Angel. In that order.

I will admit, Buffy was probably ripe for cancellation when it occurred. All the good story lines had been used and there can only be so many iterations of the big bad or the apocalypse. So for the premise of that show, it was time for an end. I still hated it tho. Firefly and Angel weren't necessarily hinged on saving the world so there could have been lots more adventures to be had, especially in Fireflys case.

Super Robot Monkeys: Team Hyper Force Go. Sounds like nonsense, but it was amazing! I'd happily watch all of it now still, but it was cancelled many years ago. I watched it when I was younger, despite there being some very dark themes to it. Also, Ben 10. I loved that show. So what did they do? Cancel it and replace it with a new one, in which Ben is a teenager. Why's he gotta be a teen? Was it it to appeal more to the teenage generation or something? I'm not sure, but... Ben 10 Alien force wasn't all that bad. Then it all just got worse and wore. We had Ultimate Alien, which was really pushing it with even more new aliens, most of them now with ultimate forms (and the brough the old ones back, which I kinda liked though...). I could live with that. But then... Then the spawn of Satan, Ben 10 Omniverse tootles along to ruin everything. It doesn't feel like Ben 10 anymore. It just feels like another bad cartoon. Why'd they ever cancel Ben 10? I know they'd run out of episode idea eventually, but making more and more new shows about it won't make a difference to originality in the plot lines, will it?

Hahah I'm going full on rant mode here. But anyway, I think I got my point across.

I do understand why Alien Force wasn't so popular because the developers made a grave mistake: They made the franchise and the main character grow far quicker than the original's show target audience. Part of Ben 10's success with the target audience relating to the main character, something that was lost with Alien Force for not only making the setting darker, but also making the main character older both physically and psicologically, while the target audience of the original show where what, 2 years older? And then, they made a mess so huge that they've tried to get back to the original target audience and they truly made the franchise lose it's quality

If you wanna make a franchise grow, make it grow alongside the consumers, just as Capcom did with Megaman to Megaman X, and we are experiencing with FiM nonetheless

Now for the topic, Avengers Earth Mightiest Heroes and Teen Titans, unless they wanted the latter to end like that, but it was a huge cliffhanger with plotlines unresolved

Oh, how i loved Invader Zim. It is probably right by FiM in my favorites, if not a little over.

However watching shows that have already been cancelled don't really bug me. I have issues with keeping up to date on shows, i often force myself to binge watch them. I only really like 1 season animes for example, any more and it requires too much of my time. I totally thought AoT was a 1 season anime, because it feels like it started so long ago, but i was PO'd when i realized at the end of the season that more were coming out, and i would feel the need to stay updated.

I totally get where you're coming from with the bit about Ben 10! And how could I forget EMH? It was cancelled before I even gave it a try. Oh how I regret refusing to watch it when I still had the chance. The new Avengers series... I think it's good, I enjoy it, but not half as much as the few episodes of EMH I managed to find on YouTube. Hawkeye was even cooler in the older series. It was a silly move cancelling it... And I agree with you on Teen Titans, too. I used to love that show when I was younger. When it randomly disappeared, I was so confused!
