Starlight Glimmer: Who taught her?

So...at the end of episode 2 of Season 5, we hear that Starlight Glimmer has been studying for quite a while. 

 

That raises quite a few questions on my part. 

 

1. Could Starlight Glimmer have been a former student of Celestia's?

2. Could Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer be cousins?

3. Could Starlight Glimmer possess dark magic somewhere?

 

Here are my answers. 

 

1. I'll say that this is plausible. This is due to the fact that I think that she could've gone along in the same track like Sunset Shimmer. Otherwise, Princess Luna could've played a role in this, as Starlight's name goes, being relative to the night. 

 

2. This one's an iffy one. They don't have similar names but their names are almost identical in character, being that there are "Glimmer" and "Shimmer". 

 

3. Don't get me wrong here, Starlight Glimmer possessed some awfully strong magic, especially if she could take away a pony's cutie mark. Even up to this day, I wonder if she could steal Celestia's mark, considering she managed to take Twilight's away. But for now, I'll say yes. Being able to take away somepony's cutie mark already gives the hint that this is possibly a dark spell. I also wonder if Celestia could do this. 

 

There are quite a few headcanons here, I'd like to present. 

 

1. Perhaps Starlight Glimmer was the next heir to the throne, being that she possessed such strong magic. But the fact that she had that crazy vision of a world where everypony's the same would certainly not make a great princess. 

 

2. Maybe Starlight Glimmer was just jealous of the fact that all around Equestria, ponies got along, no matter what cutie mark they had. It's probably why she started in a small town in the first place and was planning to go widespread. (And everyone's gonna be like "duh")

 

3. Maybe a similar event happened to Starlight Glimmer and Twilight Sparkle. Perhaps Starlight Glimmer got her cutie mark by doing a feat of magic like Twilight.

We know that she is coming back later in S5, so I'm holding off on establishing any headcanons until after S5 ends.

 

That said, the correlation between the names of Twilight, Sunset, and Starlight is too big to just pass away. Maybe McCarthy has something up her sleeves?

I certainly agree with this. I wonder if they may cross paths...but Shimmer's in the EQG world so I don't know if that'll happen...

I think Starlight must have learned the magic from someone very powerful, maybe she was a former student of Celestia's, who knows, guess we'll have to wait till the finale of Season 5, also Sunset Shimmer is going to be in Season 5?

That's a very interesting question, SG is obviously accomplished in magic, and how she learned it is something we wanna find out. Probably we'll explore some of those answers in the season finale, as someone with a radical point of view, and very good with magic, has an interesting past behind

Secretly Celestia has had a long history of rubber stamp accepting Pupils with a name that means "Star at sunset". Trixie used to be her student once too before it came to light that she Lied about being named "Evening starlight glimmer sparkle thingy".
