Themes of Season

Question: Why does every season has a theme: For example; Season 4 had Rainbow Power and now Season 5 has Cutie Mark Magic, right?

It's so that they can release a new toy line with each season. With a lot of these kids shows designed to sell toys, Hasbro actually designs the toys first and then leaves it to the writers to write the new toys into the show. That's why Twilight got a castle for this season (Pony Princess Castle!), that's why Cadence and Shining Armour were introduced (Royal Pony Wedding Play Set!), and that's why this season they are traveling to so many different locations (Collect them all!)

Pretty much this. Hasbro basically decided "you know that "base the toys around the show instead of the show around the toys" Idea we had? Screw that", and went back to the "normal" paradigm.

 

So hasbro comes up with a few toyetic ideas, sends them to the team, and the team picks out the idea they think is easiest to work with and lets hasbro know, hasbro designs the new toyline based on that and the team designs the new season around those toys.

 

 

 

 

Its kind of funny, because hasbro's found out that fans have a tendency to like the Non-mandated things ALOT more than their toy ideas, and ends up having to make toys they never planned on making (like the chrysalis toy, the NMM toy or the Power ponies line)
