@@Lucky Shot,

Alright, first off... I understand that you have criticism of this game, after all, each game has flaws, but no offense, you don't exactly have much ammo for your criticism.

Bland gameplay

Really? What about all of those gimmicks like gravity, spider web, shooter, shield, etc that are used to make each boss battle unique and fresh? Normal encounters aren't bland at all, even though they don't sport those gimmicks. The variety of attacks used by each encounter is very different and helps to make the gameplay not bland; If you're not a fan of bullet hell I can understand why you think the gameplay is boring, but for most fans of the type of gameplay, it's really fun and fresh! Also, the ACTING techniques really force you to think outside the box each battle; took me a while to figure out how to spare Snowdrake and most of the Amalgates. And in case ACTING over and over gets bland, there are unique things you can do with each enemy that you can't do with others. You can put on a concert with Shyren, steal Ice Cap's hat, etc. ...basically, i'm assuming you aren't exactly a bullet hell fan. You can of course think that the gameplay's bland, but as a really big bullet hell fan (Yes, I Touhou) I found it to be super fun and very challenging during certain fights (Sans, Undyne the Undying, Asgore, and Muffet come to mind).

Bland "I'm so indie" graphical style

Well, Tobyfox didn't exactly have a huge budget. And the graphics look fine as they are; I personally think the graphics look lovely, especially in Asriel, Undyne the Undying, Asgore, and  Flowey's battle. ESPECIALLY Flowey. Just because the graphics look 'i'm so indie' doesn't mean they're bad, and doesn't mean it's a flaw. If that was the case people would be yelling that Cave Story has awful graphics. Really, graphics are an opinion, and most reviewers and people have come to an agreement that the graphics look great, even if they aren't the best in the world.

Terrible tryhard story with bombastic, soulless melodrama and only a very few redeeming sections

Why is this a tryhard story? It deconstructs a lot of RPG tropes masterfully and allows for your own choices and encourages replay value; it's story has been said to be one of the most engaging by a majority of critics. Undertale's also one of those few games that actually punishes you harshly for making immoral choices, something a lot of games I have not met one person online or offline who says the story is not at least above average. The melodrama isn't soulless at all (even though if you're talking about the no mercy run, I appreciate the pun), especially during Pacifist. If you're going to look me straight in the eye and tell me Asriel's battle and New Home wasn't at the least heart-wrenching, you're lying.

If you believe that the melodrama is too soulless, I'd advise that you could tell me how the developer could've made it better and give some examples on how to make non-soulless melodrama.

Obnoxious, childish fans

Have you ever heard of vocal minorities? Your only backup for this is how people treat Toriel; have you ever heard of Rule 34? Most people I've met don't sexulize Toriel at all; and most Undertale fans I've met have been very civil and nice. I highly suggest you don't judge an entire fandom off of the actions of a few. That's like judging MLP fans completely based off of clop.

There is absolutely no point to the Genocide or Neutral routes existing, other than to show that the developer is apparently still 15 years old, and because Genocide gets you an amazing boss fight you don't get o do in the other routes. Other than that, you're gonna have a bad time.

Neutral and Genocide are there to tell the player that he or she has choices. If Undertale didn't have Genocide or Neutral, it wouldn't have the FIGHT button, and thus the entire point of the game would be lost. You're encouraged not to kill people; but the choice is there. If Undertale just had Pacifist, all replay value would be lost. The whole point of Undertale is that you can make choices, but all choices have consequences. Even in Pacifist, it's not perfect; Asriel is going to revert back to Flowey, Chara is never going to be redeemed, Sans will never fix the machine and get Gaster back. In Neutral, actually, some of these consequences are fixed; Asriel/Flowey dies, so he doesn't have to stay in the Underground forever and ever with noone to talk to, and no feelings to speak of. Genocide is there to tell you that you really do act messed up in normal RPGS, and if NPCS reacted like actual human beings in other games, you would be seen as a freakshow serial killer.

Also, I think that calling the developer 15 years old is incredibly immature. If you'rte going to offer criticism, calling the developer names doesn't give off signals of being a mature reviewer in any way.

I'm a historical furfag and monster girl lover, and even I'm disgusted by this zoophilic obsession with Toriel, who is directly stated in the game to be indistinct in appearance from her husband, ASGORE. Muffet is very cute, but again, I only think that because I'm a monster girl lover and the pornography of her is still revolting.

Rule 34

If you're judging people for being obsessed with Toriel/Muffet, I suppose you must judge the entirety of the clop fanbase of MLP for this zoophilic obsession with sexulizing ponies. And the Toriel/Muffet obsession is a vocal minority; most people who like Undertale want to bang the robot, not the goat.

Also, Toriel and Asgore aren't indistinct. Papyrus is just a huge idiot.

A shame a backer character slot had to be wasted on -- oh right that's why he's called So Sorry.

The dude did donate 1000 dollars to Toby's cause, though. It would've been rude to not add his character in. I agree that it's a shame that a backer character got wasted on a fursona (can I even call it that?), but I think the developer handled the issue admirably.

Well, what can I say that hasn't been said? Best game of the year. Period.

And on topic, something that I found today and made me laugh a lot.

Since we're sharing Undertale videos, here's one that made me fall off my chair.

SPOILERS FOR THE END OF NEUTRAL ROUTE, DON'T SPOIL YOURSELF IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME KIDDIES.

Oh god I saw this one a while ago. It is way way too accurate once you play the game to that point.

Goat Mom best mom. Seriously, Undertale is awesome (if you take the pacifist route). The genocide route is eh...it really undermines a lot of the appeal of the game in my opinion.

Absolutely love the game's soundtrack.

I love undertale, and my obsession with Gaster aside, I can't get enough of this game. It's most definitely up there with my favorite games I've ever played. Personally I love The skelly brothers, but the other characters are more special to me. Alphys and Asgore specifically, though Toriel has a special place in my heart. Moms just hit me in the feels  :( I didn't play this game too blindly however and I regret it, but I also feel so grateful for the knowledge of how to spare toriel.

It's a rather amazing RPG! The characters are all deep and have interesting personalities, the boss battles are awesome and have great music to boot as well. And despise its lighthearted nature, it's got a rather dramatic, captivating story. It's like a worthy spiritual successor for Earthbound.

I've just finished the true pacifist ending, and it almost made me cry. Before that I finished it neutral, and that amazed me too. I'm scared of resetting the game now. I know it's just a game, but still... :(

EDIT: Just saw that this thread has the tag: "goat mom is a good mom". I agree. :icwudt:

Never played it, but I went for boss fights anyway XD

This game has (according to a YT video I watched yesterday) good game design, in the morality department and it shows, even if I haven't watch the full story (I'm following NicoB's LP video, he just finished Papyrus battle and date)

All i would hear about is this game and how amazing it is and i never understood why till today. I never really bothered with the game till markiplier started playing it which i watched the video he uploaded and saw it was quite funny though Flowey was terrifying XD.

I can't really say much about it right now since i hardly know anything about it but i can say Flowey is my favourite character so far.

How he goes from super innocent to a monster

<Two seconds in>  Not that line.  Not that line.  Just...  Get the true ending and you'll understand.

Alrighty then.  So yeah.  Undertale.  I can't really say a while lot here that hasn't already been said.  But I will say this.  To anyone that has never played the game, go get it and pay it.  But beware.  It will change you.

I just completed all the routes from the game, and, holy crap, the final boss of the Genocide Route is pure hell.

Yep, that's right, I had a bad time.

Did you do a pacifist run after doing a genocide run?  If not, you should do that to see what changed.

I sometimes see people say that they were planning a genocide run, but changed their minds after meeting Toriel.

For me, it was the other way around. I wanted my first run to be pacifist, but when Toriel tried to keep me as her prisoner, that made her unsympathetic enough that I decided to kill her.

Sucks that you only find out that she had a good motivation for that near the end of the game.

Asides from her, I only killed the two gay dogs. They tried to kill me because they didn't like my smell! It was self-defence!

Only game that made me almost sob ^^ because I like all the other noobs accidentally killed Toriel...holy derp that was sad. I haven't even finished the pacifist run yet but this game is INCREDIBLE! The dialogue, the characters, the storyline, the OST, all of it is amazing! The funniest part for me so far was

the end of the battle after Mettaton's puzzle :P "You were stronger than I thought, etc.!" XDD

also I never thought I'd ever get a crush on a fictional character but now I'm trash for the probably gay robot character LITERALLY EVERYONE ELSE IN THE FANDOM ALSO HAS THE HOTS FOR XD

I'm currently doing a Pacifist Run of the game and am so far enjoying it. The humor in this game is great with so many memorable characters. I was meh on the game in the first part but once I got to the part with Sans and Papyrus, I was like, "I'm gonna enjoy this game."
