I am curious to know from those who attended what they thought about this year's convention?

Sadly, I could only attend on the Friday.

One issue that I noted is the scheduling of panels.   One panel discussion was happening at the Welcoming Ceremonies, for example.  They could have scheduled the panel to start after the the Welcoming Ceremonies.  Next time, maybe start a new panel after the Welcoming Ceremonies.

Was it just me or was it less people dressing up, this year?

I agree that there should not have been another panel scheduled during the opening ceremony. Ponies who didn't want to attend that could have gone up to the game rooms (assuming they were set up by that point), or dropped by the vendor hall. Attending a staple of the con should not entail missing out on a panel that some might have otherwise attended.

I think overall, the panel scheduling was pretty good though. The bulk of the con was still on Saturday, but there were decent panels on Friday and yesterday too, and even on Saturday there was still enough off time even on Saturday for things like browsing the vendor hall or grabbing lunch. That one scheduling conflict on the first day is definitely something that should be addressed next year though.

I do like that the videogame and card game rooms were separate this year. There was nothing wrong with them sharing that one room last year, but having a second room gave everyone more space, and the card game room was nice and quiet without the background noise of various videogames and the cheers of those gathered around them. The videogame room felt a little more spacious too without the need to have chairs and coffee tables set up to play various card and board games. If I did have a suggestion, it would be to allow for some space for non-tournament CCG sessions. I just got my hands on some CCG sets for the first time on Friday and wasn't about to enter the CCG tournament immediately after that. I still need time to figure out the CCG, and I was hoping I would be able to learn the ropes with someone in the card game room. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

I do wish the vendor halls stayed open a little longer, but I guess even vendors need a break. Last year I mentioned that I didn't think the venue had good flow since getting from the vendor hall to the Grand Ballroom or games room, or Skyview Ballroom involved walking through the rest of the venue. The venue is the same, and I still feel the same way to an extent, but I felt more comfortable with it this year, possibly because I already knew the layout. I have grown accustomed to BronyCAN being at the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel now, sovI guess I don't mind so much that it's held there every year.

It wasn't just you. While a lot of people dressed up this year, it seemed like more people dressed up last year. At the very least, I saw fewer non-pony related costumes this year. At least there weren't any Bronies wearing too little this year like that guy who wore little more than a sash and skirt last year.

  • I wish I could have attended for the Saturday and Sunday events.  I missed out on a lot of fun.
  • Welcoming and Closing ceremonies should have been free from any possible conflicting panel discussions that people might want to attend.  Maybe, make them an hour?  Just a thought.
  • It would cool to see some familiar faces from last year's (and those from the forum).
  • I forgot about that guy wearing that outfit.  I was glad to see some character mascots roaming the halls, again.
  • Judging by Friday, the staff and volunteers really made everything flow without much delays or hiccups.

Conventions or any kind of events will always have glitches.

I hope everyone who attended the Convention had an awesome time.  :pinkie:

Is Chillywing on this forum?

One thing that I mentioned briefly at my panel, which I will expand further now:

"I am shy, especially around strangers or in new situations, so I do not always make the first move in initiating conversations.  I suspect that a lot of us know exactly what I am talking about.  My advice in attending this convention (or any convention) is to smile at people, even greet the person.  Stranger or not, we should do our best to make everyone feel welcome.  There are some people who are attending who could have traveled hours to get there, so for them not to feel welcomed by others might sting a bit harder than the rest of us who live next door to these conventions.  So, one of the keys to unlocking a shy person's shell is to smile and make them feel welcome.  All of us come to the conventions to have a good time, so let's do it."

I attended every single day of the convention this year. I'm not online as often as I'd like, which means I fly under the radar quite a lot, but if anyone remembers a guy running down the hall after the changeling detector said he was a changeling, THAT was me.

Also, I was supposed to be Castiel, or Doctor Whooves.

Anyways, I enjoyed every minute away from home I got.

Looking forward to next year!

Well it was my first bronycon. And...I loved it.

I went to Otakon earlier in the year and I can honestly say I preferred Bronycon. Better group of people I was with, we had fun at the Hotel. I liked that it's smaller so I don't feel like I'm drowning in people and there's always a place I can go if I need to get away from the crowds for a bit.

Also at Otakon, I was getting headaches daily. Mostly because of who I had to share a bed with being...words I won't use here. But at Bronycon I didn't get a headache till the very last day. After we were on the road home.

Loved the fan panels, got to met Silver Quill, Josh Scorcher. And Andrea Libman. Oh and the 'Meet the Sirens' panel was awesome. Though the last panel I went to...the Family Feud type panel....Why was rarity not on the best pony poll? Luna's #1. *eye roll*

My only complaints is that there was a lot of panels I wanted to go to that...were often scheduled at the same time or densely packed. Also the Plushie prices...woah, but that's not the con's fault.

Can't wait to go next year.

I'm actually coordinating with several people for meeting up before the Con starts next year (Probably like a day before or something). You think you'd be up for that?

Also, I GOT TO GAME WITH IMMATOONLINK. He's a rather... awkward individual. Then again... I am rather boisterous in person. I swear, I probably scared him into silence... still regretting some things, but still got mega respect for him and Gabriel Brown.

Also facilitated the first conversation the two ever had.

I was "Lord Ebenezer Crumb" according to my nametag. He was in there for probs around 45 minutes tops. He sort of left afterwards. Think that was all the time he had to do anything really.

FanExpo is earlier in the year, AmberDust.

I'm honestly nursing the idea of "Maybe submitting a panel idea wouldn't be such a bad idea!"

Then I realize I'm an unknown, and then would probably be laughed at.

FanExpo is something like March, April. BronyCAN is august, unless you're talking about FanEXPO, like, the really BIG one in the states. There's also Northwest FANFEST in New Westminster, and Anime Revolution.

ANYWAYS! If you're planning on going to Bronycan, I've got a couple friends planning to go down with me this coming year (One's a musician, the other's a CLOSET brony), so I'm always looking for people to meet up with.
