web Websites you used to frequent but don't anymore

Any of you have a website or two that you used to visit all the time, like every day or so, or just spend hours and hours on it, but for some reason you stopped, either because you found something better, your interests changed or things over their changed and you didn't like it?

For me, it was www.sodahead.com. It's a comment based, poll making website. A pretty innovative concept if you ask me. You can get statistics & demographics of those that voted based on what they list on their profiles. The polls even have a feature that automatically enables embedding of YouTube videos. It's a pretty functional and nifty set up.

Unfortunately, the kinds of people that showed up weren't so fun to be around. Let me put it this way: you think Tumblr was bad for arguments? Visit any discussion involving anything religious, political, or anything invoke a negative opinion from you. You will get called out on it from multiple sides and get thrown into long arguments defending your stance.

Heck, even posting something innocent can get you flak. A few years ago, I posted a poll in memory of Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, and asked if anyone there was a fan of his music. You know what I got? A religious nut claiming he deserved what he got cause he made the devils music. No respect.

So after getting more involved with MLP, and finding this place, I found that the arguments were no fun anymore, so I stopped. I don't think I've been on in a year or so.

How about you? Any sites you've "broken the habit" of going to?

Does this website count?

Anyway, there's a few websites I used to spend a lot of time but quit going to because the members and moderators there became unbearable.

Facebook is my main one. I just stopped talking to people overall which made Facebook pretty useless for me. Can't really think of anything else.

Hello @Denim&Venom,

Just letting you know that I have moved your topic to a more appropriate section, Media Discussion.

DeviantArt is a website I don't visit as much as I used to. I've tried countless times to come back to that website, but no matter how much I try, I either don't make much of an effort to draw frequently or how rude the community can be at times.

Update:

I just visited Sodahead for the first time in a year. Turns out that on June 3rd, Sodahead had locked out all of it's users and deactivated it's poll creation feature, effectively stopping all use of the site except for anonymous voting on admin created polls. They've chosen to focus more on marketing their polling software to other sites and companies, rather than maintain the community.

I was kind of hoping to say good-bye in a proper manner. Maybe even start a proper MLP group and invite everypony here over. And I was so close getting to the top tier of user ranks. Well, it was kinda fun while it lasted. Shows how much you miss when you break the habit.

I used to visit fanfiction.net every single day for hours and hours at a time, on one specific roleplay forum, and I would never, ever do anything else.

That forum was to me what diet coke is to mattpatt, or what Science is to Bill Nye, or what... well, you get the point.

That was 2 years ago, and every single thing I posted was so cringeworthy I want to stab my eyes out with some form of unconventional weapon every time I think about it.

I used to spend a lot of time on Roblox during high school. I was a pretty good game programmer on it. I kinda grew out of it and moved on to programming android.

I used to spend tons of time on Roblox, too.

Kinda lost interest in it after everyone kept using the doge meme way after it had died out, like, deader than Dumbledore wearing a red suit on star trek, or deader than Someone choking, having a heart attack and fighting batman at the same time. deader than... well, once again, my point has been made.

Grooveshark is one. I spent so many hours organizing my music playlists just how I wanted them. I had different playlists for different genres, even. And then the website was shut down permanently. But that doesn't count, does it?

There was another primarily forum site, built with the same software as this website, I was on (using a different name) but with Pokemon rather than ponies called Pokestadium. After Generation 6 came out, I realized that I was still stuck with Generation 4, so I slowly stopped using the website. I recently heard that the forum part was shut down a while ago.

Facebook's kind of becoming this for me. I'm not nearly as active as I was a year or two ago (and even back then I wasn't very active.) Way too many people spam bullshit, things I don't care about, and quizzes. I pretty much just use it to stay caught up on news now.

A year ago or so, I spent most of my time looking at romance stories on FanFiction.net and FiMFiction- and making a few stories on the former- but ever since I got interested in this place, my visits there have been pretty uncommon, aside from occasionally messaging a friend on FiMFiction. I was also a member of Brawl Friend Codes (now SSBFC) before then, which I just got bored of eventually since I didn't really fit in, partly because I was too shy to play Brawl with anyone there. x3

I used to be an avid follower of Slashdot because it was the only source of news I could find that covered my interests. Then I found reddit, became a follower of /r/linux and similar subreddits and the rest is history.

There's also facebook when I was in high school, which I left partially due to privacy concerns, partially because of the endless status update spam/clickbait and partially because I realized I only really cared about like 4 out of the hundreds of "friends" I had managed to accumulate. I don't mean that in a mean way, I meant we were never really that close to begin with or we had drifted really far apart.

There are two in particular for me.

Trackforum.com - An IndyCar fan forum; the biggest by far. I have lost interest in IndyCar and the sometimes negative outlook by people there really exhausted me.

FurAffinity - Spent too much time there with little benefit for myself, so I moved on.

Used to visit nsider2 for a little while before finding more forums to attend, but the userbase there was so awful that I never really bothered posting there

I guess for me it's probably The Escapist - I used to regularly visit that site, to check out the forums, Zero Punctuation and the Jimquisition. But now, all I do is check the news every now and then (not helped by the fact that Jim has left and after they updated their video player, my internet connection can't really handle streaming any of their videos any more, so can't really watch Zero Punctuation at the moment either).

Moshi Monsters, Club Penguin, Bin Weevils... yeah, mainly those. I used to play Moshi Monsters up until I got bored of it. A few months later, I went back to it, but it has completely changed! Everything was all... baby-like now. Like, everything was simplified, and now you could barely do anything without being a member. As for CP, I kinda just got bored after the Christmas event, and the same goes for Bin Weevils.

I used to visit Screwattack a lot more but not so much nowadays. I was without internet for 2 years and missed out their changes of staff, personality, etc and when I came back it just didn't have nearly as much to offer.

Explosm.net I used to visit everyday but I haven't visited it for a long time.

I used to often check out Cyanide and Happiness too - but I've 'liked' them on Facebook, and they post their stuff on there (I assume it's their latest stuff at least), which has kinda negated the need to go to Explosm any more.

Forumla

I had problems with the community after a while. Some users annoyed my sister because of her music interest, people started to talk about sexual things in the chatrooms and some people said to me, i should stop responding to old treads, i should stop posting in forengames that much because i annoy users...it got to the point, that i disliked the whole community. I created sock accounts, posted spam and said that i found certain users disgusting. I was just being honest. Well, i got banned...thats why i dont use this site anymore

Bronies.de

I thought joining a brony forum would be fun and it was at first..but then...in the chatroom people were just laughing at me for watching the wrong gens, i got multiple pms saying that i and my rpg characters are annoying until the point that my character just got killed and the mods didnt care.

Then i even got insulted in some forengames...it was just a bad time.

Then i created a sock account and posted in the general chat tread : " Hy im twelve and i find you all pathetic! "

That felt good   After that i never did go back..because i dont like most of the community.

Im not banned though...not that it madders.

GaiaOnline was possibly the first social media site I joined back in ...middle school? High school? Anyway, I even went as far as to send in actual money to buy one of their monthly avatar items (which people would inevitably sell for site-exclusive currency.) It was around the time that they released their MMO that I gradually lost interest.

King.com is still a site with a boatload of flash games on it, but one day I just stopped going. I revisited it again last year, but again I drifted away within a week.

I was also big into Fanfiction.net when I was a teenager. I still get notices for people favoriting or following my old stories, despite the fact that not only are they utter garbage but said fics were last updated well over five years ago.
