I prefer FiM, but I still like EQG, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with preferring the latter

I personally like Equestria Girls more. Not 100% sure why either, I just think it's more fun to watch and the music is a trillion times better than the show's music. Plus Sunset Shimmer.

I got into the fandom before Equestria Girls was even thought of. So of course I appreciate the show more than the movies! Are the movies bad? I don't think so. According to Greg from Dawn Somewhere the first one was just.... cliche. He was surprised about the fact that Twilight apparently had a bigger challenge dealing with High School than killing off an entire army of Changelings and saving the pony world multiple times. I have seen the movies but only once because I don't have the time to watch them again. I watch it because it has at least 1 funny moment in every movie, and Sunset Shimmer. But bottom line, no I don't. But it's not a bad thing at all if it's the reason why you're in the fandom!

I cannot agree. As much as I did enjoy the movies, especially the epic second one, the EqG movies to me represent something that FiM has seemed to work very hard to get away from. The concept of existence purely for making toys. These movies, while enjoyable, clearly were used to get into the Monster High style market of dolls and that really irritates me to know end. I am in a strange category where I actually like the movies but I think they should not exist at all. The songs in Rainbow Rocks are epic at least.

It's like comparing apples to oranges if you ask me. The only notable difference is the setting and the look of the characters. You'd think that the high school setting of Equestria Girls would limit the potential for fantasy lore, but really, it hasn't. There's less adventure, sure, but on the plus side Equestria Girls offers a chance to see the beloved characters of Equestria in a new world and in a new body, and this brings about lots of potential for fresh new ideas and directions to take the characters. We're probably not going to see a pony rock band or a pegasus Dashie playing soccer, so It is pretty neat to see how the girls translate into a human setting.

I could write a five-page report about how much I don't care for how pencil-thin their bodies are, how sexy most of the outfits are, the weird skin colors, and how ridiculous it is that they all sport mini-skirts and knee-high boots, but the important elements, such as the storytelling, humor, acting, music, animation, etc are still very much intact and on par with Friendship is Magic for the most part. I'm not going to let a poor design/stylistic choice ruin the entire thing for me. The show's spirit is there, and that's what counts.

Bottom line: I like both. FiM gets the pass because ponies > humans. EQG gets brownie points for having Sunset Shimmer though.

I think they are equal, at this point of time, but EqG has a lot of potential to get even better, while FiM, feels like we have already seen the best it has to offer.

I can see how mundane and (oh so magical-ish) high school environment works in favor of city slicker characters like our Mane 6. Let’s face it, even Sakura Kinomoto would function better in an “unleashed” version of the ponyverse than any of the mane characters, and without the “unleashed” ponyverse, the whole thing starts bleeding its magical charm. I always get the feeling that the world Faust created kinda gets in the way of the whole lessons thing. It hides all these wonders, yet it’s always on a leash. Littlest Pet Shop, on the other paw, does not have such problems. Blythe and the pets do similar stuff like ponies in their own world without giving you that fishy feeling of disillusionment. Of course, MLP is carried on good writing and compelling characters, yet even that cannot prevent the anemia forever. That is why, with a heavy heart, I suggest that EQG is actually superior from the potential storytelling perspective. It needs less plot acrobatics to achieve the same effect as Pony.

I still hate it with a passion. Get yourself another group of magical girls to do your dirty work H-Bro! No seriously, I want to see you create your original magical girl show for teens. And it better have friendship beams bigger than Starlight Breaker! And some normal shoes would be really appreciated!

I can't say that I like EQG more than FiM, if anything I think EQG compliments FiM rather than surpasses it. Still I understand why some might like a spin off more than the original series. Cough cough *Persona* cough cough.

Now that you mention Persona, there's an EG/Persona crossover, I've even been posting their respective character's personas who resembles them. Hope you don't mind having Flashy being the main character and stealing waifus again if you wanna check out  ;)

Oh no FIM is way better. Sure RR was decent but the first movie had a cliched story, blatant stereotypes, fan pandering, the music was terrible, the animation looked weird, the humour didn't work. But despite RR being decent the characters within it's universe aren't really as developed or interesting.

I prefer the show by leaps & bounds, but I happen to like EqG in general. Granted the first movie wasn't much to write home about, but RR and the EqG-based comics have really done plenty for me. I love it overall; just not on the level of FiM.

Why is that? Because FiM got me here in the first place and, as such, is on a higher emotional tier for me. Similar to Spyro; if you will. :)

I don't know about this because I like EQG alot I don't know if I like it more.

I guess I could put it this way, I liked RR way more then I like MOST EP or FIM however I still have a soft spot for the ponies.

I guess I am trying to say I maybe like EQG just a little more then FIM.
