So this finale and epicness...

So, here's a question. Last season's finale was, without question, the most over the top epic finale we've had yet. Whether it was the BEST finale or not, it had the most action and weight to its plot of all the finales so far.

So here's a question: with the upcoming S5 finale, do you think it will measure up to the previous finale, or try and push the envelope any? Or do you think its going to be much more low key and laid back? Think there will be any fights, or more of a slice of life situation for its conflict and resolution?

I think the Season 5 Finale could be even better than the Season 4 finale if done right. The Finale to Season 5's concept certainly sounds like it could be VERY interesting. (I won't spoil it here, but look it up, there's certainly potential there :D )

While I think the animatic is interesting, I don't see if leading to quite the same level of epicness as the last finale. rather, I'm expecting it to be Essentially Magical mystery cure 2: Electric scootaloo.

There is the possiblitiy of

Nightmare star

But I think thats going to be from the upcoming scaremaster episode as a costume.

So is that like

Nightmare Moon but Twilight Sparkle instead? Or some other character entirely?

We have a trading card called "Nightmare star" and the CCG website's been using imagery of it.

Most people thought it'd be from the nightmare episode, now alot of people think it'll be from the finale. I currently think it'll be the nightmare night episode.

So

Celestia has a Nightmare Moon-like form too? That's... kind of weird. I

mean, casting the world into entire darkness sounds far more threatening than permanent daylight :P

I

don't think they'd be able to go THAT far with it. Besides, hasn't Celestia been the "good guy" the entire series? What would make her suddenly want to burn everything to the ground   ?

Well the time travel thing is what people are thinking to be the catalyst. If the mane six never got their cutie marks, they'd never have become friends, and thus never gotten the EOH to stop ngihtmare moon with.

its possible Celestia might have tried to use the elements again and been corrupted like how Sunset shimmer misused the element of magic and was turned into a demon. Alternatively, there could have been some other element in play like her having to use the alicorn amulet to defeat nightmare moon without the mane six, or just fighting luna again did that to her.

Basically, some sort of "want of a nail" scenario due to the cutie mark thing making the mane six never become friends.

Personally, I'm leaning towards the nightmare night episode though myself. I could see Celestia dressing up in a nightmare costume for that in some way. God knows we could use a celestia episode after all this time XD

yeah, a Celestia episode would certainly be something refreshing (I'd feel sorry for whoever would be on "animating Celestia's hair" duty, though :P )

I skipped reading most of this thread when someone said that the concept for the S5 finale sounds good, simply because I want to avoid spoilers.  Holy crap, the finale premise is already known?!  Why does everyone have to know everything before it aires?!  Doesn't anybody like to be surprised?  Am I the only one who wants to know absolutely nothing about an episode, not even a blurb, and then just sit down and watch it?  I don't want to know!  I don't want to hear the premise!

I'm sure it will be good, whatever they do.  I don't think they should try to "top" Twilight's Kingdom.  Instead, just do something different.  Evidently, I think the S5 finale should be 10 minutes of mayo.

Since the stuff with Starlight hasn't been resolved and she has a pretty big plan, it will probably have an epic feel. Unless some extremely powerful character is involved (including a superpowered Starlight), I don't think the finale will have a fight similar to the one with Tirek. The stakes will probably be higher though since it's about cutie marks.

With Starlight possibly messing with time, we could have a situation where while the antagonist isn't as big, the consequences of what they did could be of a far greater scope.

I don't expect another Pony Ball Z, I think it would rely on more subtlety and plot to make it epic intead of another DBZ-like battle, like how....

Starlight messing with time will make things awful for everyone and she'll realize she screwed up. I'm thinking of Nightmare Star too :smug:

This suddenly has me thinking of the Flashpoint paradox where the "villain" of the plot isn't the true problem but the butterfly effect is.

Given how her sillouette appears to be on the poster for S5, and all the other characters on it are "good" characters and not villains, I kind of think starlight might end up having an epiphany at the end ala Sunset shimmer.

To be honest, this might be the finale that I am looking forward to the least in the show. I hate the aspect of time travel and I cannot stand it as a direct plot point in most things. Also, what apparently will be happening when Starlight does this really has me put off. I am not sure, but I am just not looking forward to the finale all that much. I am weird, I know I am in the minority on this opinion. As long as it has a good resolution where everything is how it should be now, then all should be well, so I hope that is the case.

As far as I understand, you cannot change a past event that contributed to your time travel unless you land in a parallel universe. Princess Twilight is imperative for Starlight’s decision to time travel, so she can’t change Twilight’s path to transformation lest she erases her own time travelling event. She has better chances of becoming her own mother.

But since “magic” and “it’s a kid show” we’ll get this half-baked progressive challenging Twily to Globnar or something. Crime and befriending! This time story better have a really good time plot twist … and some laser tag!

How about instead of an "epic" finale, we have one that is actually devoid of plotholes and lackluster writing? That's certainly what I would prefer.

As it stands, I have to say that what we know about the season 5 finale thus far sounds pretty terrible, mostly because of the implication that...

...the mane six never would have received the cutie marks they have were it not for Dash's Sonic Rainboom. That sounds like utter bullshit to me, since they were all on the path to receiving the same cutie marks anyway, with the possible exception of Pinkie.

I really wish that for once, the show would go for a more mellow and down-to-earth Season Opener/Finale "Best Night Ever" as opposed to the "Grand" and "Epic" stuff they usually do.

Eh, timey wimey ball. I've seen more than a few stories that disregard this fact.

To be honest, I'm actually expecting them to try and finangle/rationalize that the mane six's cutie marks aren't truly about their talents but rather about being friends or something, to try and hammer home the importance of them all recieving them at the same time, or something.

Touché. Now that we’ve congealed the level of time travel authenticity, we can now proceed to speculate on the plot.

My two bits:

Twilight follows Starlight back in time. She uses her knowledge of friendship to remind everypony of their special talents and draws out their cutie marks, then defeats Starlight in a “heated political debate” (aka Starlight transforms into a raging she-demon and is defeated by cutie mark magic). Timeline is restored, Starlight becomes our next best woobie waifu, and that’s that. Also tragic past, one song, and no Spike except at the beginning.

I’m so turning this into a bingo game!
