Yeah. Almost every episode this season had some kind of crying in it. But just because someone's crying doesn't mean it automatically makes the season more "mature" or "dark". There's always been crying in the show anyway, just not as much as this season had.

I would say that there has been a lot more crying this season. Or perhaps it's more noticeable coupled with the more mature themes in this seasons episodes. I don't like seeing characters cry, because I want them to be happy. But it does add more depth to the them because many of us can feel their pain on a personal level -- especially Moon Dancer from "Amending Fences." And in turn, it makes you love and relate to them even more.

Like PonyLaces said, feels don't make it dark. If it was dark it would have sad endings or death. As for the question... I honestly don't know.

Wasn't crying something Faust DISLIKED about girls shows though? I seem to remember her saying that she disliked how girls cartoons would often resolve conflicts just by having the characters cry until the villain inexplicably changed their views due to that.

Ironically, even with "Tanks for the Memories" and "Do Princesses Dream of Magical Sheep" there were also some huge laughs in season 5 (Princess Big Mac, Rainbow Dash's "Nightmare", the entire "Slice of Life" episode).  Then again, I suppose I was in tears after "Slice of Life" when all those small delightful references and nods to pop culture came full circle I laughed so hard I cried.

You want a show with lots of crying? Avatar: the last Airbender.

No but seriously, I think the show has gotten better with emotional subjects as each season passes. Crying sorta comes with that.
