gaming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Discussions, Strategies, MGO, etc

V has come to.

Feel free to discuss about the game here. Please do try to spoiler tag any potential spoilers, thank you.

Major spoilers, read at your own risk

It seems kind of evident to me that TPP is incomplete, at least in its current state.

Chapter 1 is very well done, apart from that infamous "Lust for revenge" quote from Skullface. For two times (Ground Zeroes and TPP) someone in a very important scene just had to add comical relief, for clarification, refer to Kaz's "fiddle" quote in the end of GZ.

Aside from the phantom main op 51 that got cut out, the entire chapter 2 just simply feel kind of rushed out. There were quite a few repeated missions from the previous chapter (with increased difficulty), and it just feels like a lot of things that were suppose to be in there is cut out.

After looking back at the trailers in the past few years, it feels like a lot of things in the trailers weren't explained. Witness a legendary hero become a demon? We have a competent MSF medic who became Big Boss's body double. I have no issue with this plot twist, but how Big Boss (the first one, not the body double) became the man he is in MG2 still isn't quite thoroughly shown. Perhaps some DLC will fill the holes? Perhaps another game? We'll see.

Most complaints I have about the game is plot-wise, as I am very interested in the series's storyline. However, this game is still great in my opinion when it comes to gameplay, the open world is gorgeous (though it could feel kinda empty sometimes), it is very very replayable due to the time and weather cycle along with adaptive enemy AI, and then there are the easter eggs.

I just had a blast in this day worth of FOBs invasions, most I've failed, but I've snagged a nice bunch of S ranked dudes and one woman  .

Two stories worth telling, are one invasion of a R&D base, it was full of S ranked personnel, and it would have been challenging.... except for the fact that he only completed two platforms, and the rest of his security was decent at best. I've infiltrated, stole over 12 S ranked security staff, AND 12 S ranked R&D soldiers of successfully infiltrating. The saddest part for my victim, is that I wasn't discovered, so the poor guy can't retaliate

Another one is my first base defense close and personal. There's this guy who I've invaded weeks ago, but now, he wanted to invade me. He tried to invade my Med team, but failed, then he tried to infiltrate my Command Platform. I told my brother I'll try to fulton him and shake more cash from him. Guess what happened two seconds after I found him :dash:

Those are quite the tales man! I was a bit hesitant to try the FOB missions. I didn't want to have to hassle with lossing resources and men. But so far I haven't been infiltrated. ^^ And my security is up to par, I should be able to fend off.

What's your PF? I'd like to grant you support ;) .

Well, if you either have the PS3 version (which I own), or IF PS4 version is cross-compatible, PM me and I'll send you my account  ;) , I was meaning to ask for help here anyway

I've heard a lot of criticisms from fans of the franchise that The Phantom Pain is a bad Metal Gear game. That the game lacks strong story elements, and that the second half of the game feels rushed and incomplete. As a fan of the Metal Gear franchise, I would have to agree with those criticisms. However, The Phantom Pain is still one of the most fun games I have ever played, and the sheer enjoyment from the gameplay itself more than makes up for its other shortcomings. I absolutely loved how open-ended many of the missions were, and how each objective could be tackled via a variety of available strategies. If I had to identify one criticism with the gameplay, it would be how easy the stealth/non-lethal approach becomes with certain loadouts. With the upgraded stealth suit, a non-lethal sniper rifle, and Quiet equipped with her non-lethal sniper rifle as well, most missions become a joke in terms of difficulty. Hell, Quiet can take out most outposts on her own while you just watch. Still, The Phantom Pain is an amazing game, and the 80+ hours I've invested into it attests to that fact.

True, it's story it's one of the weakest in the canon franchise, with Portable Ops being in the first place in that regard (I could mention the original Metal Gear too, but it would be unfair to compare a modern Metal Gear to an 8-bit one). But I can say it's the most addicting entry in the franchise, and it's gameplay it's smooth, and practically flawless

Ahy, it seemed the focus here was more to the gameplay. Which was alright, but I'd like them to go into further depths with the plot.

Also, Konami apparently will continue developing the franchise?

DLC incoming maybe?

Extremely disappointed despite the game being fun.

What I wanted out of the game was story.

The gameplay was fun, but I was hyped up by the trailers. I must have rewatched them a million times, but I never watched the gameplay demonstrations.

I was expecting a game that we would see Big Boss go from anti-hero to "kidnapping scientists and holding their daughter hostage so that they'll complete your Metal Gear" villain.

Big Boss in MGSV still seems like an anti-hero to me and not someone who would want the world in a state of continuous war.

He spares Quiet (and if you don't, you miss a lot from the game, so it punishes you for trying to become the demon Big Boss), he spares Huey, you can choose to not shoot skull face.

Overall, in Outer Heaven, men did not become demons.

Kaz was more evil than Venom.

So for me, who was really excited about a cinematic experience, got a game where most of the mission's story developments are just filler (find him to blow up that to rescue this hostage who tells you to kill that guy to steal that document to lead you to skull face).

The main story itself was generic with very little impact on the lore.

Then Chapter 2 had nothing to do with Race and we all know how great Eli's arc ends.

Most Metal Gear games feel like they build a game around a story. MGSV feels like they built a story around a game and it didn't satisfy me who had been excitedly waiting since early 2013.

:(

It just wasn't what I wanted.

The twist ending was fine, but it too created more problems.

Oh, and PS.

I completely disliked Quiet's portrayal, both in appearance and story.

Penis-pandering all the way.

Skimpy outfit with a plot device that felt like an excuse to use said skimpy outfit felt tacky and forced. Her boobs are twice as large as her motion capture actress. It was awkward when my friend came in and was like "why is she waving her behind in your face). She suddenly doesn't want to kill Big Boss because I don't know.

One of these days we'll have to pull the trigger never came (ties in with Big Boss not living up to the demon villain role we were promised).

Her story arc felt way too vanilla. It was a sad ending, ok, but it felt like a love story that was way out of place.

It felt like fanfiction. "You become Big Boss's double, having all his memories and skills and a smoking hot woman who's also a bad@$$ who falls in love with you".

The tragic ending that she sacrifices herself for you was not what I was expecting in a game where Big Boss said he was gonna kill her. I thought the tragedy would come from Big Boss having to kill her, seeing her killed by the enemy (like a last straw to becoming a villain kinda thing) or a combination of death and betrayal.

I could go on and on.

Well, with the uncut content people discovered, AND how douchy Konami is nowadays I wouldn't doubt a DLC

Yeah, there's evidence the game was going to be even better than what it is, a third chapter included

So, nuclear bombs. It is worth making one for your FOB? I've noticed not many have them, probably because you lose 50000 heroism or so, not to mention your FOB will be swarmed, in hopes to steal it (Almost all FOBs shown in the list, I can't infiltrate because another player is already doing it most of the time, I've only infiltrated ONLY three nukie equipped FOBs), but considering the odds of losing a fully upgraded FOB defense are low, I'm tempted into sacrificing those heroism to build a nuke  , As I've been invaded three or four times

Anypony have seen the new update? Mosquito's Legacy FOB event is live again, and it's pretty easy, you should be over by it in a day. Also, three level 8 weapons, new security systems, double reward for successful FOB infiltration, neat rewards in combat deployments, and you can also.... (WARNING, plot spoilers ahead)

have Quiet return to your team, just finish her boss battle seven times

So, I've decided to build myself a nuke. Is it worth it? I dunno so far, it's quite risky because, as I've predicted, your FOB will be swarmed  guys hoping to steal it. I've spent the whole day invading other FOBs, and when I finish, most of the time I'm informed of either a successful defense, or an infiltration in progress. I've got crazy amounts of cash and resources. So far, it's worth sacrificing 50000 heroism for a nuke, but I might not be so fortunate one of these days, and I see myself with a stolen nuke.... One advice with FOBs, from my experience, snipers for your security guys are the way to go, it's hard for the average player to not be detected across platform by one of these douches

I liked it as I liked all Metal Gears, related to the main plot. Yeah, the story was kinda lacking for the gameplay and it could had done good if the never finished mission 51 would had been included. But overall I enjoyed it(Evidence? 160+ hours + platinum trophy on PS4)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH, SOME DOUCHE ALREADY STOLE MY PRECIOUS NUKE  . Well, guess I overestimated my defenses  >_> . I guess I won't build another nuke until I have enough time to play all day and there's another MB coins underway, because defense is good business, but it's better with your presence

Well, the most important thing about a game is gameplay, and on that count I'd say MGSV delivers quite well.

However, other than the gameplay and general magic of the FOX Engine, MGSV isn't even finished... That's why you get an apology teaser of the unfinished final episode. >__>

The story is very hashed-together, has a lot of flank pulls, and it's stupid that you can include custom music in the game and yet Kojima still spent like half the game budget on licensing default 80's songs.

If he hadn't spent it on that, maybe he would've freaking finished it.

The Nuke isn't worth it IMO. Generally because I don't like the idea of nuclear weapons in general. Plus giving me those annoying asks Demon Points is kinda... dumb. Just my thought.

I wouldn't mind nukes myself, if not were for the fact that I lose 50000 heroism per nuke. That's quite much

Just the idea of raiding an FOB with a nuke, BAM I get striked.Does it show if an FOB has a nuke?

Also, What's your PF Rank?

I dunno,  6000 or something, I lost plenty raiding FOBs after getting my nuke . Oh well, I fultoned plenty of S ranked dudes, I needed many of those.

And no, PFs with nukes are not for them using them against you, the idea of the nukes is to avoid nukeless players from infiltrating. Then again, that's practically useless, as that doesn't work if said person is a hero, and in a game which encourages you to rise your hero rank..... it's easier to find a shiny pokemon

We'll be able to use skulls for FOB security this December apparently, in an upcoming DLC, with chapter 51, which was cut. Now we can have a proper final boss for chapter 2. I wonder if we'll get chapter 3 as DLC too

wait chapter 51 is coming?! AWESOME!

okay where you readed that about mission 51?

Crap, I can't find it anywhere. Maybe they realized it was either fake or unconfirmed. Hope we get some confirmation someday, as the game as it is, left with some things unclosed

HOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I finally managed to infiltrate a 4 platform "EF, OU, BEEEEEEEEEEE", IT FELT EPIC, BEST OF ALL, THE LAST PLATFORM WAS FULL OF S RANKED GUYS, AND I STOLE THEM. It was going so well, but sadly, a stupid camera found me at the last moment, now my unfortunate victim will attempt to retaliate for sure, but hey, I've got a bunch of S ranked base development staff  :kindness:

I'm not good in FOBs, so I always only use the events, or really low FOBs, because there I have a realistic chance XD
