I actually have a friend (from the forums) from there, so I have to say, I'm actually pretty fond of the country, seeing as she's one of the few "ambassadors" I've had, haha.  I originally never really heard the stereotype spiel she told me that Netherlanders get; at the time, I simply had heard little to nothing of the Netherlands, and considered it "one of the lesser known European countries" and left it at that.  :)

But yeah, I like the Netherlands now, and I kinda laugh at y'all reputation for being rude or too forward.  :dash: That, and people confusing Holland for the whole country.

Fun times.

I could say a whole bunch even though I've never set foot there. The thing is, I live in one of its former colonies so I have a Dutch passport myself. What's more, my two older (half) siblings have lived there for 15 or so years there and they've talked about their time there.

The Netherlands strikes me as one of the more progressive countries out there, just not as progressive as the Nordic countries. Here's something interesting about The Netherlands: it was the first in the modern world to legally allow same-sex marriage. No rly.

Something that the Netherlands are also known are the fields and gardens of tulip flowers.

Truly, nature intended them to be pro-LGBT

Decorated kitchenware are also part of the traditional culture. They can be dishes, saucers, tea pots, sugar pots... My grandmother used to have a lot of those for her home decor.

The Netherlands is one of the few places left that have a monarch with the current king being King Willem Alexander who's married to an Argentine woman of high standing.

You've heard of Vincent van Gogh, right? He was a Dutchman.

Suppose I could go on but that might spoil the fun for anyone else wanting to pitch in.

This is all I know about the Netherlands- flat, windy, lots of dams and dikes, and lots and lots of bicycles. And that Dutch sounds like a non-angry version of German.  And apparently they have very poor distribution for pony toys. Also, everything is expensive (but the same is true of Western Europe in general).

Like most Americans, I don't really think much about the rest of the world.  I recall reading that M C Escher was Dutch & he + Dali are 2 of my most liked modern artists (IMO, he was WAY better than Warhol)

+ New York was originally New Amsterdam before the English stole it (late 17th century? ICR)  That was the origin of the word "Yankee".  The English settlers called the Dutch "Jan Clees" (Johnny Cheese) & the Dutch started saying it back & it got corrupted to Yankee (heard that on an old time radio show called "The Rest of the Story" by Paul Harvey)

We are pretty straight ahead when it comes to social skills.

The confusion of the country's name is well known since some Dutch people still referred to their country as Holland in their own language.

You've heard of Vincent van Gogh, right? He was a Dutchman.

That's right. He's also very popular in Asian countries. Especially in Japan.

The Netherlands really looks like a cool place to head into. It looks to have a lot of culture, and lots to do.

We have plenty of monumental buildings.

I've never been there, but a lot of the popular house musicians are Dutch, and I like house music. I think I'd like it there possibly,

And we brought you more famous Dutch people like Famke Janssen, Bruce Springsteen, Dick van Dyke and the Roosevelt family.

This is all I know about the Netherlands- flat, windy, lots of dams and dikes, and lots and lots of bicycles.

We love our bicycles .

A bit. We still have some rude words and the use of the N-word is there without problem.

They do have some MLP sections in the toy stores, but maybe not all the toys of the brand. And yes, expensive due to high taxes.

Your country and mine have a very...unique relationship.

Princess Margriet was born in a Ottawa hospital ward that was made into a Dutch Territory, and we flew the Dutch Flag over Parliment. The only time a foreign flag has done so.

You send us Tulips for giving you food during the winter of '44-45, and still do to this day.

I've been to the Netherlands half a dozen times, and each time it has amazed me. The Dutch are friendly(not sure if was because I was Canadian or not, *shrugs*). Regardless, I will be back.

Also(and to my shame, I had to wikipedia it), I drool over Poffertjes.

I love the Dutch language and I'm going to learn it after I've become fluent in French.

After learning both languages I could easily live in Belgium or Luxembourg.

I would love to visit the Netherlands....With country filled with agriculture (I think it's #2 in the world for food export), I would LOVE to see the land and its rural people.....though I am not sure about the cities, too densely populated for my tastes.

The people of The Netherlands are still thankful for your help in the winter.

Did you know that there´s also a Dutch community in Canada? They also celebrate Dutch festivals like Sinterklaas.

There also lives a friend of my family in Canada.

That's great. Have you already visited Noord-Brabant's themepark called De Efteling?

Don't worry, we don't treat people from other countries bad.

I wish you success.

There's plenty of entertainment in the park. We have an English version of the park's site if you're interesting: http://www.efteling.co.uk/.

I've always loved the Netherlands, not only for the culture and the politics of the country, but also the fact that a very good friend of mine is dutch. I've never been there though, but I'd love to visit sometime  :)

Like any other country, there are things that I think they do better than America, and things I think we do better here in America. And stroopwafels are amazing.
