spoiler Does Big Mac have a feminine side?

First he turned into a princess and now he's crossdressing... both in the same season! Is this just a coincidence or is there more to this?

Also what really caught my attention was how talkative he became as cousin Orchard Blossom. It seemed really out of character for me. Isn't Big Mac supposed to be shy? I never thought Big Mac of all ponies would crossdress in public. Or if he did, he would be super shy and barely talk at all.

What do you guys think?

He isn't a transgender or a cross-dresser.

This is just something that fans are starting to look too deeply into.

But how do you explain him being so talkative as a female?

I'm not sure of the exact reason, I guess i'm just trying to say that small scenes like this can really get fans thinking too deep.

I'm sure alot of ponies are curious as to what being an Alicorn would be like. Even if they had to change gender I'm pretty sure they'd think being able to fly and use magic would be worth it XD.

Also, while he was in drag, he HAD to be more talkative for the role. If he just talked with his usual eeyups and nopes the game would have been over much sooner. (Tho how you can see a huge ass red "mare" and not figure out its Mac in a dress is beyond me.)

Also, we're the brony community. We're supposed to look at things too deeply. :P

If that's true, then consider me the exception.

Seeing Big Macintosh dressed as the opposite gender didn't make me assume that he is a cross-dresser or a transgender. I sincerley doubt that's what the show's staff was trying to convey... I think that it was just a scene to get a chuckle out of the fans and nothing more.

Maybe he doesn't talk much because he doesn't like his deep/manly voice? :o And he used this event to kill two birds with one stone. i.e. spending time with his little sister while expressing his feminine side. Maybe... maybe not. What do you guys think?

Big Mac is not Transgender, nor have I ever considered him shy. No, Big Mac is a contemplative sort, he spends a good deal of his day thinking; They explore this in the comics quite a bit. He's not shy, but he does tend to want to get to the point with his usual monosyllabic responses. I can relate since I'm exactly like this. The way I type and think are entirely different from the way I speak, and people are surprised when I break out into excited chatter over something when they simply assumed that I was shy.

Big Mac is not transgender because he doesn't Identify as a female. He dressed up as one, he may even felt a bit liberated as one since it required a bit of roleplaying, but he doesn't IDENTIFY as a female. That is the big difference between something like Drag/Cross dressing and Transgender, Trans is when you feel like you are the opposite gender in the wrong body.

My mistake.  :rarity:  Most of the folks I've seen saying these things are cis, in addition to a few tumblr-inas who always stir up trouble.

It's okay. :) Though, I don't see what one's self-identity has to do with the validity of this inquiry.

It's more just mild irritation at clueless cis folk assuming cross-dressing = Trans, which are two very different things. As for the point you brought up about Big Mac's alicorn dream, I chalk it up to wing and horn envy. In his own mind, he probably considered himself a Prince.

I've thought Big Mac was shy ever since Applebloom said he was in "Hearts Ands Hooves Day".

To say that Big Mac is transgender just because of his personality quirks and feminine interests is like saying bronies must be female to fully enjoy MLP:FiM just because it's advertised as a show for girls. Not every effeminate man wants to be female.

No. Just... no. Why do cis people bronies keep saying this? >_>

To have another excuse to boast about how seemingly "progressive" and "daring" the show is in terms of subject matter, while completely missing the point of the episode.

Feminine side? Sure. A girl? No.

Most guys like some feminine things, I doubt Big Mac would be an exception.

Also, here's a fun fact as someone who's taken Acting and Performing Arts classes - a lot of actors are shy, and use acting as a sort of outlet. Big Mac was doing exactly that as Orchard Blossom.

Seriously, though, the cross-dressing in that episode means nothing significant about him gender-wise or even personality-wise, considering he wasn't doing it for himself, but rather to get into the sisterhooves social with his sister. (unless you count the fact that he's willing to humiliate himself or pretend he's someone he's not to make Apple Bloom happy)

Are you sure about that? Never assume someone's gender based on their opinions. Trust me, Tumblr should learn that themselves.
