Tirek vs. King Sombra: Who wins?

Who do you think would win? Probably a silly question. Also, how do you think the writers of MLP will be able to top a villain like Tirek? He was about the scariest and most powerful you can really get.

Tirek, by far. At least when he has a lot of power. Sombra's whole thing seems to be powered by magic and Tirek can absorb said magic, so I think Tirek has full advantage in this case. 

 

I am unsure how they could top him, he was pretty amazing. Intimidating, his voice was awesome and he actually 'won' technically until Rainbow Power poofed into existence.

Well, if we consider the comics as canon Sombra is from the race called Umbrum; aka Shadow Ponies. We know Tirek can aborb magic, but would that be possible against someone whose form is that of shadow?

 

Not to mention that Sombra isn't dumb; he ALMOST had everyone beat in the S3 premier without having to lift a hoof. Tirek has a silver tongue, but unlike Discord I doubt Sombra can be readily swayed.

 

It depends on how Tirek's ability to absorb magic can interact with the dark, shadowy magic of the umbrum.

If we assume Tirek is fighting at his "normal" level of power instead of being all juiced up on stolen magical power, I'd say Sombra would win.  But honestly, this fight could go either way.

 

Tirek is strong, no doubt.  It took the combined power of two Alicorns to send him to Tartarus.  But the same could be said of King Sombra, albeit with him being banished beneath the ice of the frozen north.  So they'd be pretty evenly matched in terms of strength.

 

I think that Sombra edges Tirek out in terms of defense though.  He can transform into shadow at will, rendering a lot of Tirek's offense ineffective.  But what I think gives Sombra the greatest advantage in this fight would be his intellect.  Remember, he was just an ordinary unicorn  who unlocked the power of Alicorn magic and used it to enslave the Crystal Empire.  Tirek pretty much made the same attempt with Equestria and failed at it outright.

 

So unless Tirek manages to steal Sombra's magical power, he's in over his horned head.  And I'm pretty sure a foe as cunning as the evil king would be able to anticipate this strategy and plan for it accordingly.

Prototype Sombra would annihilate Tirek XD I say "prototype" because they originally planned to give Sombra the ability to summon an army of undead ponies at will (after all, how can one unicorn conquer the crystal empire without an army?)

 

This ability was considered to scary for the shows demographic so they just made him tgave him the ability to transform into a shadowy thing instead.

I would say King Sombra. 

 

Pathfinder raised up very interesting points and I must agree with his view on absorbing dark magic. From what Tirek did, he only managed to absorb enough small magic to be able to become strong enough to start absorbing more advanced magic. So I am going to say no to a weak Tirek, but a maybe to "Full Power Tirek". Why maybe? Because Sombra's strength has never been really fully revealed, however, from what can be seen, he is fairly dangerous, the main characters having had to keep him out of the Crystal Empire all the time during the Episode "Adventures in the Crystal Empire".

Tirek if he was at full power. Also, looks aren't everything, the writers can create a better villain one day without having him/her be "big and scary." I'm perfectly happy with Starlight Glimmer being the S5 finale villain, even though on the outside, she's just a small, pink unicorn.

Hmmm, both are pretty powerful. Full power Tirek could totally crush Sombra and devour his magic, but then again, Somby's shown in the comics to be a shadowy abomination which takes on a pony-like form. His shadow form could greatly help him in combat. Plus, we haven't seen the full extent of his physical strength. It'd be a pretty impressive battle, like something out of Asura's Wrath.

Anyway, there could be a way to top Tirek if the staff decided to add a Lovecraftian being as the show's ultimate big bad, with a voice somewhat reminiscent of Ultron... or maybe, make Tirek return and give him a more powerful stage, like they did with Frieza in Fukkatsu no F, heh.

well Sombra has dark magic and we don't even know if Tirek can drain dark magic so T i r e k drain a alot of unicorn to become powerful to defeat sombra or if he can drain dark magic from sombra than Tirek win but we don't know if Tirek can drain dark magic from sombra even sombra  has that shadowy form so I guess Sombra win

I'm pretty sure a fully powered up Tirek could wipe the floor with any individual character in the show, except maybe Discord. Twilight literally had the power of four alicorn princesses (including her own) when she went up against him and the best she could do was fight him to a stalemate.

HIGHLY DOUBT it's that simple, even if Sombra's body is 100% magical like you suggest. The Evil 3 couldn't handle Discord's chaos magic in the finale, with Tirek being the biggest dissenter to using it in the first place, so Sombra's shadow magic could easily erode Tirek's will, or worse, Tirek could find sharp crystals bursting out of his body. Also, literally just today, we got a spoiler from the MLPXTransformers comic sequel showing that

But I'm also biased towards Sombra, so I'll say that Tirek could still win with enough other sources of powerful magic absorbed.

I still feel too unfamiliar with Sombra, but Tirek is a dangerous enemy.

He has the ability to absorb magic and get more and more powerful. But what is most frightening about him is his intelligence, Even if he likes to use brute force, he knows when to be smart and he can talk and manipulate too. Well not on the same level of Cozy, but still he is up there.

Sombra is definitely not stupid and what he did in premiere of season 9 showed that is also not to taken lightly. Still after the seeing this first two episode of season 9 I think he's definitely more proud and arrogant than Tirek. So If I have to choose here, I would vote for Tirek to win.

think it depends on what form Tirek is at the moment of the fight : First form : sombra wins without a doubt Second form :it would be a harder battle but i think sombra would take it without much struggles (considering that Tirek in second form is weaker than chrysalis) Third form :equal fight (considering that both of them were able to crush shining armor laughably easy) Fourth form:without a douby tirek wins at middle high difficulty

 

well the deciding factor in a fight between these two is Can Tirek absorb dark magic because if he cant then unless he just steals the magic from a bunch of other ponies then Sombra would win, but if Tirek could absorb Dark magic then I would have to say Tirek and if he already had the magic of a bunch of other ponies then Sombra couldn't do much to stop him

he can steal any magic...he did steal chrysalis s magic at 1  point. and that's changeling magic.... pony magic is also originally foreign to him... so I'm guessing he can steal any sort of magic.

and don't forget discords magic.
