I'm starting this as a way for people to improve their skills as artists by using the art of others as a guide for drawing their own original pieces, or redrawing the original as practice. The idea is that posting something here gives permission to others to redraw your artwork or use it as a guide for the purpose of this thread. The artworks can be anything unless it's NSFW. Both traditional and digital art are allowed. I'll start by posting some of my own work. Keep in mind, art that is posted here is only for the uses listed above, use in any other way is strictly prohibited unless otherwise stated by the owner of the work. I would like to see some of your work so I can try to improve my skills as well. The goal here is to share our work with each other and inspire each other to try new things. The Rules: - List the name of the original artist of the work you are duplicating. Their name on the forum (or whatever website they are best known at) A link to their website, artpage or Youtube Channel A friendly mention that this is beyond a reasonable doubt THEIR work and your duplication is inspired by such - Be sure to the original work can be found in your post and proper credit is given to the original artist for that image as well. Add a link to the original artwork if it is on another page or website. If it is on the same page indicate which item it is on that page (check after posting to see if your post started a new page. If it did, add the link to the page the image was on.) Information about whose work the link leads to must be included. - Keep your advice friendly and your criticism constructive. Don't insult anyone. Don't claim to be better than someone else, that is a matter of opinion. - Try not to offend anyone. Don't post NSFW content here. Don't post anything that is hateful or mean. - You are still on MLPforums and must also abide by their global rules.- You MAY NOT for ANY REASON use an image posted here outside this thread unless the artist says otherwise. Example: You may NOT use another artist's drawing of your OC as an avatar.- While MLP related art would be preferred, it is not required.- If you are posting your own, original artwork, you should label it as such to avoid any confusion. - This group is always open to new members, and there is no need to ask permission to join as long as you follow the rules. If you don't follow the rules above, your post will be reported. If it continues, further action may be taken. My originals: First, Seamore Sandwich and Ink/Quill (Ink and Quill are identical twins, you can never be sure which one you are looking at). Links to their bios are in my signature. Then it's the Dimond Spider. I am granting special permissions with this one. If you want to use it as an enemy in your Roleplay, you may, and for that purpose you may copy and paste the following image into the Roleplay. Just be sure you give me credit for it if you do, and please keep the creature as described in the following link. If you choose to redraw it and use the redrawn image elsewhere, remember to properly credit me for the creature's design there as well. Keep in mind these permissions do not extend to any other content in this thread. Diamond Spider Sadly, I could not find my old dragon drawings. I know I still have them somewhere. And to do this you'll have to do something that might be a bit frustrating to learn and master, Shadowing/ Layering color. It might encourage me to do more "HOW TO DRAW" videos in the near future. So yes I'll try to do my best to help this thread out where I can. Just be aware that I'm a very busy pony, nutriting my YT Channel and DA page and get caught up in other projects. That said, some tips for this forum thread would be this: - Set some offical rules, with a strict policy and understandable consequences should those participating not follow them. The rules I believe should be set here is this: - List the name of the orginal artist of the work you are duplicating. Their name on the forum (or whatever website they are best known at) A link to their website, artpage or Youtube Channel A friendly mention that this is beyond a reasonable doubt that is THEIR work and your duplication is inspired by such - Link their orginal work in the description here - If none of this can be provided, then simply don't use the piece. Better to play it safe and not risk "Copyright" issues. - Be helpful, not trollful. If we're here to improve our artwork and encourage others to do the same, we need to be constructive in our critizism. Saying things along the lines of "This is stupid and unorginal" is not constructive, it's just being mean, where as "This is a good start, but you can improve in various areas so it looks 'less' like the orginal" is more constructive. Know when to spot the trolls and give them a warning. If they persist afterwards then they should be reported to the administration. So if you can @@Seamore Sandwich, I'd recommend you re-edit your first post and list the rules in a creative and easy to understand, format. As for some of your artwork here, you are off to a good start, but there is room for improvement such as in portions to the head and body, to the legs. I feel the head is much too big, the body is a tad too long, and the legs a bit short. Ponies however or horses in general are NOT easy to draw, so don't be discouraged by my critics. I've been drawing horses since I was 5yrs old and had to teach myself before schooling kicked in. Ponies of the MLP style are very unique in their own right, they are not real, therego cartoonizing them is stretched. In reality horses have long bodies, legs, and a thick neck and long muzzle. They are elegant in their own rights. With MLP Ponies however, their bodies are very short, their ribs are in their rumps litterally, they have short muzzles (even the stallions), and their hooves curve out like little bells. Not to mention their eyes, those are the biggest part of their face. Hat's off to ya man, even with a compass I drew the inner circle 20 times before incorporating it into what you see. After that, the image I posted here is like the 4th incarnation. It was never a large mistake either, but for the illusion to work properly you need yoctoscopic (10^-24m) or no mistakes The key is to make sure the straight lines are as close to perfect as you can have them, I drew 72 lines with 5 degrees of separation. Otherwise I may have to wait until Wednesday due to my work schedule. @SugarfootWillie, I will probably try it on graph paper to make it a little easier, then transfer it to tracing paper. As for yours , I will probably be using plain paper, though I haven't decided whether or not I will try pen. In the meantime, I will be continuing my search for new members. I'm not using a compass, and haven't used a ruler yet on it. I will update this as I go. Update #1, I went over to my cousin's house and brought the drawing, but no pencil. He has a pencil but, no eraser! I decided to use a ruler, but only for the straight lines. Update #2, I found an eraser. Update #3, more circles. Update #4 even more circles. This image is pretty good practice. When I get more done, I think I might have trouble controlling my lines due to the optical illusion it creates. This was a good choice of image for this Willie. @ I'm not quite in the mood to try drawing faces today, but I promise I will try to at least start on it this week. I can't simply tell you how to do it, I'd have to show with the various programs I have. Sadly i don't have time for such. I think I might take the challenge of the rose and some ponies (as I don't draw ponies often). I'm looking forward to seeing your work. One thing about the blue rose, I have only ever been able to draw it with blue pens. For some reason, when I try it with pencil I just keep erasing and redrawing the same lines and I never make any progress, and when I'm drawing it in any other color, it just doesn't look right so I give up and switch to blue pen. I don't know why, it's just something about the color blue. It doesn't upset me, I actually like the way they come out. I usually start at the bottom of the flower and work my way up adding layers of petals. The stem usually comes after, and this one is different from my others because it has a leaf while the others usually didn't. I am somewhat good with a pencil so it will do me good to practice on my tablet. Seamore Sandwich 470 October 12, 2015 Author Share October 12, 2015 I'm finally done. I decided to stop here because if I keep drawing the page will eventually be completely black. I know it's a simplified version of it, but it seems right to stop here. Anyway, this is my finished redraw of @SugarfootWillie's work seen in post #5 on this page. This was really fun and challenging to draw. , I will try one of your faces next, I haven't decided which one yet though. I usually don't open the flower up as much, which does make it a little easier for me to draw. To do this, use any one element as your base and then use that as a reference size for everything else. Believe it or not, this is actually much better than my last attempt at drawing faces. There was one time I drew a boot, and it was the best, most realistic picture I ever drew.
