They've been confirmed to be dead for a long time now, it's just never explicitly said in the show(until now, can't believe I missed that in my first view)

I don't think that this will ever made into an episode. We just have to accept that they are dead. How and why is up for the fanbase to speculate though clearly the writers never had a backstory of Applejacks parents.

We don't know about Rainbow's parents, or Fluttershy's parents. I don't think they want to touch on the idea of death. It is one thing for fans to think about what might have happened, but to make it "real" in the show would be a rather dark episode.

I think it is best to just leave it as it is, we know that the Apple parents are not in the picture and the reason for that must be a good one.

They were confirmed to be dead a while ago, so I don't see what the big fuss is about. It's nice that they got mentioned though.

An episode about them would be really interesting, or at least an episode that goes into detail about what happened.

Although it would be interesting to learn more about AJ's parents, I think that area of information isn't something that ought to be worried about. It's probably a touchy topic anyway.

I personally have never really understood why the fandom really wants an episode concerning the Apple parents. It's not really needed. It's something the entire Apple family seems to have come to terms with a long time ago. It's not like any of them are brooding day after day about their dead relatives. I think the topic of death was done way more appropriately in Tanks for the Memories, as it it was something the Mane6 had to deal with now in the present, and not some long-ago incident of the past where the affected characters have already healed.

You're probably right.  It's pretty clear they didn't intend to provide details about their passing.  That being the case why bother even writing such a backstory?  :derp:

They were confirmed to be dead in the apple family reunion episode...

True but that was much more subtle.  A casual viewer might not understand the meaning of the shooting stars or Granny Smith's quip about not being able to "make it".

I agree with this.  Also their deaths are buried in the distant past partly because of what can and can't be said about death under Y7 guidelines.  Thus passing references are the most we're likely to get in the TV series.  The upcoming movie would have the freedom to explain in detail if the writers wish to do so.  But unless it's very pertinent to the movie's plot, it would be better to just leave this matter to the fandom's imagination.  A lot of cherished headcanons might be shattered if we ever learn how things really went down.  And we wouldn't want that to happen, would we?  :)

Just as everyone's already mentioned, her parents have been dead for some time now (since Apple Family Reunion), but this is the first time in the show they've actually been pretty straightforward about it. Believe it or not, I think you had to do a little research to figure out what the stars meant in Apple Family Reunion.

As far as the show goes, I don't think it means anything significant. It's just now more generally understood that they've passed on. It's sad, but I can't see anything at all changing.

Tanks for the memories was an incredible way for them to touch upon death of a loved one without the character actually dying, which was genius to me, hence why it is one of my favorite episodes ever. I think it could be possible to have AJ's parents in an episode, perhaps in a flashback sort of thing, it would be awesome to see, but they would have to specifically mention that they are no longer around and that, they might not be able to do so subtly, which is a shame. It would be interesting to see and it probably would be a very sad episode.

Oh sure, the crew confirmed it, but seeing it on the show means a LOT more.

Also not present for their daughters big day, Rarity and Sweetie Belles parents. I'm sure if "Mom and Dad were here, they'd be so proud".

That bothers me. I keep worrying that those Hasbro rats will turn around and say they're alive and well on a far away farm... <_<
