How did Sunset Shimmer find Twilight's room?

Something that confused me in the first movie was, how did Sunset find her way around the crystal castle to Twilight's room? She left Equestria for the human realm before Twilight even became Celestia's student, which of course was years before the Crystal Empire resurfaced.

Sunset's most likely familiar with the castle +there's probably a sign somewhere that says "Twilight's Room"

How would she be familiar with a castle from a place that disappeared over 1000 years before she left Equestria?

Actually, this is a headcanon of mine I've had for a while. So basically Sunset could pose as a guard during the day and ask where Twilight's room is so she could deliver something. Another guard would tell her and she'd dart off back through the portal to return to school. That night she strolled back to twilight's room.

I've wondered this since I first saw the film. I always figured that she had taken other trips back to Equestria, and was relatively caught up on what was going on. This was just the first time anypony caught her. That or it's a plot hole that they didn't bother trying to fix before finalizing the movie. Probably the latter. Wouldn't surprise me, my main issue with the first film is its lack of polish, both in the animation and in story.

Isn't a bigger issue is how does the human crown look exactly the same as the element? It's reasonable to assume the crown in the human world would be different as i had been in past years. The fact the fake crown was the same (and so crappily made) hints that Sunset at some point had time to do recon, so there's the answer to how she knew where twilight's room was.

I've forgotten what episode this is from or where exactly this is, but throwing this idea out there, could this be (literally) foreshadowing of sunset's infiltration?post-34501-0-24628100-1445089099_thumb.png

That was actually in Season 4 in Castle-mane-ia. Josh Haber, the writer of the episode, also confirmed that the shadowy figure was actually Tirek.

Okay I got an easy fix on this. Sunset wasn't looking for Twilight's room, she was looking for the Element of Magic and used a spell which allowed her to track high magical yields which would lead her to the crown, which just happened to be in Twilight's room at the time.

Where's your source for the confirmation that the Pony of Shadows was Tirek? i can't find anything from Josh Haber relating to that.

The mirror is opened for three days, but Twilight only had two days when she entered it. I think Sunset used the first day to scout around the crystal empire and see Twilight and her element.

I read a few free sample pages from the start of the G.M. Berrow novelization of the movie. I think it explains she'd already come through shortly before and snuck around, scouted a little. Something like that, anyway.
