Thoughts on criticism

In general, do you think that people criticize on things too much? If so, why?

Personally, I think too much people go overboard and it just dissolves into nitpicking. We even have memes of it.

People have a tendency to get "criticism" and "act like a gigantic douche" mixed up too often. Especially in this fandom

I think that some Fans overreact to a little change to much.

Like what i saw, that Silent Hill 4 was a little different gameplay wise and everyone started saying, that this game has nothing to do with Silent Hill and even spread rumors about, that the game was supposed to be a complete different Game and was only called Silent Hill 4, to catch in on the sucess of the Silent Hill series, which of course wasnt true.

And now, even some Silent Hill collectors dont even collect the game, since they still say, that this game has nothing to do with Silent Hill...i dont even understand it.

Just because the gameplay was a little different ?  :ooh:

Thats an Example of Fans, overreacting to much.

Or people saying the movie Batman and Robin was terrible, because it was a little camp, but then go,and praise the old Movie from 66.

I dont even know. It seems, that, whenever a franchise goes to something older, it gets negative reception, because fans say, they are just copying from the older stuff.

I dont think its copying, if the company doing the new movies, has also made the old movies. That just going back to some older stuff they did on the past. Or get inspiration from it, or maybe its a reference to the older stuff.

That would be my examples. But then again, people already told me, i was a wrong fan, because of my opinions on their opinions

I think people need to get better at handling criticism.

This.

I've seen plenty of upcoming authors in this fandom who have dozens of comments on their stories with comparatively small viewership numbers. I'll think to myself "Oh, this must be a good story if so many people are commenting on it!" And then the comment stream is just a back-and-forth between the angry author and a well-meaning reviewer/reader who had some criticisms. That's silly and only a little bit sad.

In general, I think people can be ridiculously nitpicky. As for as critiquing things using the traditional sense of the word, I don't think we do it enough. Critiques lead to improvement in form, but when every comment is "Oh this was so good keep it up I wanna see more lol!" then there is no incentive to improve.

EDIT: Congrats, this was my 1,500th post on this site. Feel special.  ;)

Couple thoughts

People who give "De-constructive criticism" or whatever, should not be encouraged to give more positive criticism, they don't care to help the individual regarding the work that's being critiqued, because if they did, they would offer sound and practical advice rather than blatant insults or vague statements. This becomes pointless, it's better to stop being such a whiny baby, and ignore it. Who cares.

Learn to crave critique. Whenever I make content, I look forward to any comments that may contain tips that will improve my work in a general, all around sense. Of course I take all critiques with a grain of salt, and carefully go through and test out changes to see if they have a worthwhile and practical effect on the outcome of my work.

At the end of the day, whether or not other people are too nit-picky or not is really any of my concern. I'm a pretty level headed dude, so usually I have a pretty balanced opinion, I'm pretty good at discerning works and coming up with reasonable complaints that are beneficial to the content creator, so when I see other people who are so far removed from my opinion, I simply don't even let them bother me, especially if they aren't providing reasonable, and structurally sound examples as to why they're feeling how they feel.

Criticism is a good thing until it goes to the point where it comprises the entire experience for someone despite the positives. I think everyone should be critical of something to a certain extent, otherwise the problems of something may never be noticed and eventually ironed out, but if someone is getting to the point where finding negatives is the only reason they do something, that is where it begins to impact the potential enjoyment that they can have, which is not good at all.

Basically, be critical of things, but remember to enjoy it as well, if it is something that can be enjoyed.

Constructive criticism can useful in pointing out flaws and improving ones own work in the future, but nitpicking and criticism just for the sake of being vicious can be annoying at best or nightmarish at worst depending on how persistent and extreme it is.

I do believe that it is in ones best interest to be open to constructive criticism as it can help improve as I've said before, shutting out all criticism or dismissing it out of hand more often than not will allow certain issue to persist if you are not aware of them.

So, at the end of the day I guess I'm saying I believe it depends on the type of criticism.

You may not agree with the idea or the subject but you have to be fair. You may dislike, displease etc. the idea but you have to say or write your thoughts with an appropriate language and you can not insult any people while criticizing...'''

Constructive criticism is good.

The pony dude who said my story was too fast and ****************** needs a kick in the fadge as they basically gave away the suprise ending the whole thing led up too. Luckily it's a crap story and I laughed at their stupidity, but had it been a good story I would have trolled the pony out of them ^_^

Constructive criticism is good, though I dislike when people treat their criticisms as if they're fact. People forget you can disagree with criticisms. After all, a lot of criticism is subjective. Now granted, there are some that do point out things that are fundamentally wrong, but based on what I've seen it really does depend on who you ask. One man's trash is another man's treasure, as they say.

Yea, constructive criticism is good. I agree with Yfery, when people start treating their criticisms like fact, it becomes a problem. Also, some people are very bias with their critiques. They don't like it, so they try to find everything slightly wrong with it.

Like others said, constructive criticism can be a good thing. Whether we are referring to a show or a teacher/student situation, constructive criticism isn't necessarily negative. It states what you did wrong, and where you can be better. However, some criticism is destructive. Even some forms of self-criticism are destructive. It all depends on what type of criticism it is.

I am a really sensitive person, so even if something is meant to be constructive, I take it as an insult.

...I really gotta stop that  :please:
