How crap are birthdays?

Ugh. There's really no point in fussing over them, since every day, you're another day older, and one day closer to death. Whoohoo. I've just been trying to ignore the imminent day that only serves as a grim reminder of my entrance into this world, one that I never wouldn't asked for, if I had a say. But wouldn't you know it, time just goes by so dang fast, and it's crept up on me. So, yeah, I'm now a year shy of flippin 30, not happy about it, and in spite of my not wanting to be reminded of it at all, I know I'm going to get a call from my sister the one day out of the year I ever hear from her, wishing me a happy (crappy, imo) birthday.

So let's talk birthdays. Is it a B when they come around, for anyone else?

Do you act the age that you're supposed to be?

How has everyone changed from their pre-teen/ teenage years to whatever age you are, now?

Hehe, most people who know about me tend  to say that I'm a kid in an adult body. I am a very happy person. So, I always enjoy my birthday, even though I knew that deep down it was just another day, but hey it's a reason for a get together with family and friends, right? I stay the same way from pre-teen to the present. Yes, grown up have more responsibilities, but that doesn't mean I can't just play in the plastic ball pool anymore, or blowing the cake!

Also, about those happy birthday wishes on your facebook, twitter, or any of your social media, that, too, was one thing that I am happy to see even though we barely even talk or see each other in real life. I always think of it as the day that people remember about you.

I guess I'm just being too positive, but that's what makes me happy! (Also, I'm 21.)

Yeah, I'm not too fond of birthdays either. I hate being the center of attention, and getting presents makes me feel awkward. I'd sooner just skip celebrating it.

As far as acting my age, I guess I don't. In some ways I'm like a little kid, and in other ways I'm like a jaded old man.

From my experiences, I see birthdays as a day to celebrate who you are and what makes you special. Whether it be your birthday or a close friend's of yours, it's always feels nice to have your positive qualities highlighted. I find it nice that your sister wished you a happy birthday, because it shows that she cares for you.

I also see birthdays as an experience. I'm one of those people who believe that you only get one chance in life, so I like to make my birthdays special by going out to places that I couldn't afford in any other day.

What I'm trying to say is though that it's better off making every year of your life special and memorable. If you see birthdays as a reminder that you'll die one day, then your life will probably end up being a dull and unmemorable experience.

Im always happy when my Birthday comes, because of the Presents. Every Birthday means a big step forward in my current Collection.

Other than that, i dont really care how old i am. Sometimes i even forget.

I have no Idea if i act my age, because there is no one i could ask, if i act my age. I dont spend much time with anyone and have no idea how adults act.

So, i guess i never really changed at all. I was always shy and silent and i still am. There is not much Personality to me. At least not in real life.

I like having a day celebrating the fact that I was born. It makes me feel important.

in spite of millions of others who were born on the same day taking your importance away, and in spite of being an absolute nobody when you were born on that day- and more people knowing you, your peronality, experiences, etc. Upon leaving the world, rather than coming into it? Is a birthday really so special, in light of that?

so glad I'm not the only one who forgets my actual age, sometimes. That's a bit of a relief.

Would it still matter if you didn't get presents? Should birthdays be an excuse to be materialistic?

Would you consider yourself matured more than you once were, however many months/ years ago?

Being materialistic. Am i supposed to feel bad now? Im just happy if i get presents. When someone else in my Family has birthday, i also give them presents, so i have all the right to get excited for presents.

Maybe i am materialistic, but what am i supposed to do? I have no friends in real life, so whenever i get something to spend my time with, im happy, because otherwise im bored to death and depressed.

If i wouldnt get presents, i would pretty much dont care about my age. If my Family is still celebrating it ( even without the presents ), i would be happy to spend time with them then.  :)

But if just nothing happens, i would probably forget my birthday too. Because i dont care about age.

...um...well...i always was silent...so...i dont know.  :ooh:

I mean, i learned a few things, for example :

Its not okay, to ignore everybody. When someone ask you a thing, you should answer.

But thats the only thing that changed really, thats the only thing i learned. I still have pretty much the same humor as a kid. Hm.

I mean, i can talk normally, which i probably wasnt able as a very yound kid, but other than that i cant tell any difference.  :ooh:

I still dont do anything, what i think most adults do. I dont drink,i still live by my mom,i dont go to partys,i dont drive, i dont have relationships and still no social skills. Its all pretty much the same for me.And i still watch an surprising amount of kids media from time to time.

I try not to make a huge deal out of my birthdays and other people's birthdays, but I still enjoy celebrating them.

I don't really care about my own birthday, so I care less about other's bithdays. I don't find them to be that special because everyone has one. So I was alive for another year? Meh.

As far as acting my age, I never grew up, I just got older and am able to do most of the things I wanted to do as a kid.

I'm never really excited about my birthday. It's even 2 days away till November 25th. More than likely I get not a thing on my day since 50% of the time my dad waits for Black Friday sale. Even with the sale, I may get nothing.

My dad lose his car this year so the chances I'll get anything is slim. If I get nothing, then it'll reminds me how much I hate birthdays in general

birthdays, it's the day celebrating the first breath i took in this world
(does it sound wierd?)

anyway, birthday are the day that i will mostly want to take a break from everything like : school, chores, homeworks)

anything that stress me out.
i mainly choose not to have presents (as i need to use money effeciently because of family economy prob) so i mostly just got some money (which i probably use to pay for school). but yeah, i'm happy about this..... Maybe

as for acting my age... i'm still 14 (15 on november 25th yay!) i'm unpredicatble. sometimes i can be a really responsible mature person. or a madman who is really childish and takes nothing seriously.

My birthday is kind of meh. It used to be cool back when I was in school and had friends, but after I left and they all fell away from me there's kind of not much reason to celebrate it. Mum still insists, and it's nice when the family gets together; I just wish there was more we could actually do together as a family. I personally love board games, as they're a great way to get the whole family around the table and interacting, and depending on the game it can be super duper fun. But no one in my family aside from myself enjoys them much or really has the patience for them.

So! my last birthday that came in October, we were all sitting around the table and opted for Uno since it's a fun game that almost everyone knows how to play and enjoys, and if someone doesn't know then they can be taught extremely easily. My brother comes in, and he's reluctant to play but the family insists, and we deal him his cards. He knows how to play the game and he's played it many times prior, but due to him being tired or something he puts down a blue +2 on top of a yellow 2, which I quickly and casually explain he can't do. He then takes this as the highest offense and says "F*** this game, f***ing games are f***ing stupid", throws his cards down on the table so that they go flying everywhere, and storms upstairs. So in one simple maneuver, he ruins the game and subsequently the little birthday get-together (which was supposed to be for both myself and my mum) for everyone. Additionally, at this point I had already ordered a board game called Forbidden Desert which I had the intention of playing with my brother and my mum whenever the opportunity arose, but due to his little child-like tantrum over Uno, most basic of basic games ever made, I decided Forbidden Desert would be both a waste of time and money and cancelled the order. So not only did he ruin the birthday, but he ruined something I was looking forward to as well that was quintessentially my own birthday gift to myself. Good job, broooooooo.  ¬_¬

I used to enjoy my birthdays, with all my childhood friends and a true feeling of care and love, gifts and cake.... Now, the few remaining friends are busy with their lives, and I only celebrate my birthday with a few relatives, who feels like it's done out more of commitment rather than actually want to celebrate. Gifts are another thing, I hardly get anything worthwhile or anything at all. In their defense though, what can they give me that I don't have already? It's not like this ghetto I live in have anything in the first place. But there's something that makes me wish no one remembers my birthday: phone calls. I, FUCKING, hate, phone calls >_> . For me, phone is for a quick mean of distance communications to share important information when time is of essence, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, they have to make me waste time with worthless small talk when I have things I'd rather be doing. I'm not fond of small talk, but if I have to engage it, I'd rather do it more personally, not by phone >_>

In short: the only thing worthwhile in my birthday, is cake, me love cake :fluttershy:

I can't really feel crap on a day like that. It pretty much marks the day that i was born and that i came to be who i am.

Yes, i get birthday presents and a birthday cake, which are materialistic. But they are given to me by people, who care for me and in exchange i also give something back to them because i care for them. It's the thought that counts. :)

BTW, happy birthday. Hope that you get lots of presents and i hope you eat lots of cake. ;)

Had 19th bday 2 days ago, and I don't really give a dang about it. I recieved like maybe one happy bday wish on facebook and from my family. However my divorced father did not call. But I don't give a dang about it all to be honest. One day people will wish you a happy bday, other day same people will treat you like a background character, so why make a big deal about it all? Bought myself some presents and I'm all good.

Define "Acting your age". I'll act however I damn well please.

As for birthdays, yeah. People try to coddle me with fake congratulations and all that. I also keep telling my family to stop getting me gifts, I'm not 5 and they could use the money instead of spending it. I don't care, personally, even if i was squeezed out 25 years ago.

I have never really cared about my own birthday. Kinda approached it with the mindset that some have pointed out, that the day just isn't special and there is not point. Lately though, I have been thinking about it and I feel like that should be different. I am seeing birthdays now like this: It is not a day to think you are all special or something, it is a day for you to just celebrate, have fun, have a good time. Yeah, it might be arbitrary, but many things in humanity are. So with this in mind, this year I want to make it special. I want to do something fun, I want to make a memory out of that day. I want to make my birthday a wonderful day for once.

To be honest, birthdays are kinda scary to me, just think about it, between two birthdays are about 1.3% of your whole life, that you might ever have.

I'am 18 years old, thats already a quarter!  :(

Your time on earth is very short, make the most out of it by doing what you really want, don't waste your brief time here. :)
