It does look great but of course there is always room for improvement. First off I just wanna say congratz on making your first low poly image, I know how much time you must put down on these :P I think you did a great job with getting the right shape for the face and I like how you figured out that you can make one side and then mirror it since it's a symmetrical image. As for things you could have done better, I'm not sure whether these things were made on purpose and you don't have to take my advice for rules since everyone has different opinions. There are three things I noticed when I looked at your lion:

1. Some of the shapes are out of place and doesn't fully match the corners/sides of the shapes next to them. This is pretty much the most important thing when working with low poly art if you ask me, even the slightest displacement can annoy. I don't know if you can see it but examples of this is around the top of the lion's head and at the side of the nose.

2. This is very much personal preference I suppose but from what I have been taught, you usually want to work with the least amount of shapes possible to keep the image detailed. Basically, don't overdo detail where it's not needed. Detail should be put in those key areas where people will look first such as the area around the eyes or (if you're doing another image) where some sort of action is happening. Here for example:

My personal opinion is that this area could have been done with fewer shapes. But again, maybe you wanted that look.

3. When working with low poly art, you usually don't  want any areas with semi-transparency. Either an area is fully colored, or it is 100% transparent (or whatever color you're using for your background). At the very top of the lion, we can see a grayish area which was created when you took the average color of the lion's hairs and the background of the image. The result is a bunch of shapes that looks as if they were what was left of the background after a poor cut-out. If you would've made the whole picture low-poly, it would have worked. But if you're only going to use the head of the lion, only use the head of the lion. I do know that the hair on the lion is a little black at the top, but there still shouldn't be a semi-transparency look to it. I would have done one of the following: a) With effects or manually, change the colors in this area to be a orange-black mix color instead. b ) Do the hairs manually. As in, remove the unnecessary areas and put down shapes for the hairs without anything around them.

This artist for example has decided to not do the little hairs and only do the shape of the head to avoid that problem http://picturelizethis.deviantart.com/art/Low-Poly-Lion-498836881

..But I think the image you used might be a bit of a tough job to do, however.

...I'm sorry for crappy explanations but it's kind of hard to explain what I mean :P I hope you get some of it at least.
