When there's not enough fans of something you really like

You fall in love with something that isn't mainstream, and very few people took notice of its existence, or just about all record of whatever it is has been destroyed, and memory of it has all but faded into obscurity by everyone else but you. (Like the example of cafe au Lait . Murr...) How bad does that bum you out? Has falling in love ith- and wanting to talk about it, only to find that it seems like you're the only existing fan ever happened to anyone?

Yes. It happens with music all the time. Prime example: Kittens For Christian. A really awesome post-punk band. They were - for a short time - signed to Serj Tankian's (of System of a Down) record label Serjickal Strike. They released one album and shortly thereafter broke up. Prior to signing with Serjikal Strike they had released some CDs and vinyl records that I scoured the internet to find. Took me a while, but I think I have pretty much all of their recorded output.

That being said, no one else has any idea what I'm talking about when I mention them. A real shame, because they were such a unique band...

In my experience, there are still plenty of fans even for the obscure stuff, it's just a matter of finding them. It won't always be as easy as finding some Youtube comments, but they exist and they'll show up when you least expect it.

Just off the top of my head, there is a band called Def Tech. They sing in English and Japanese. There's not a lot of easy-to-find fans of this band, but they must exist. After all, someone made the Wikipedia page about them.

It's actually happened for anime I like. Weirdly, this is how I was introduced to 4chan's /a/ board and LiveJournal: it's only those two communities that have regular discussion on the anime, even if things do occasionally brush up against NSFW territory - mainly in the case of the former.

But yes, it really does suck when something you like doesn't seem to have a visible community to talk with it about.

For the music I listen to, there's plenty of fans, but not in the mainstream of course. My favorite musician, Leslie Fish, has songs that deal with sci-fi, LoTR, anarchy, and neo-pagan ideas. Not exactly something I'll find at Walmart, especially since she was most active in the 80's.

Beyond my eccentric taste in music, most of my interests are easy to find, just if you need to really look for them. I'm sure there's more than just the one medieval combat guild around here, just need to hunt them down :P

I'm feeling like this with neopets right now. It's still a semi popular site but I really want a writing partner for stories . And just a general love for the site and appreciation for character and neopets development

There are sooooooooo many bands that fall in this category for me. So many talent groups out there that barely get the recognition they deserve. I listen to so many of these that it sometimes makes me feel like a hipster. XD This is why I want to do more Kyoshi Shares Music blogs, to hopefully get some new fans for these groups.

I never have anyone to talk to about my favourite, obscure music because it's too hipster. :^(

This :(

I mean, I have some friends who like Hardstyle, Trap, etc...

But the obscure underground 1990s/2000s Dubstep/Garage is something nobody seems to like.

(Very few have a decent enough setup for listening to it anyways. It always makes me giggle when people get offended when I tell them their Apple earphones really aren't good enough for stuff like that.)

As anti-hipster as I want to be, there's no denying Coki/Double 99 isn't as popular as Justin Bieber :P

Guess I haven't met enough chavs yet.

oi any mates wanna 'ear a real banga? :D

There's a band I discovered called Technocracy. A real promising band with a lot of talent and a stage show set for arenas. Unfortunately, just as they got their debut done and very well produced, 9/11 happened. And since they're an industrial act that sings about beak futures and police states, them and similar acts got dropped. They found a deal at a cheapo foreign Indy label, but have yet to see a dime from sales.

Since then, members have gone on to different projects or hobbies. Co-founder and lead guitarist Phil Demmel went on to join critically acclaimed thrash heavyweights Machine Head, and lead them to their highest success yet. I actually spoke w/ Phil earlier this year about it, and he was actually happy I remembered his old project.

I have always wanted to talk about many many things I like to people, but while it irritates me that it's so hard to find someone friendly with common interests at times, I wouldn't go on my way out to advertise stuff I like. Maybe I'll just link them to people in skype groups or irc channels and hoping at least one will get hooked, then it's just that.

I get that into some of the books I have come to love and fan-girl over and a few manga and animes sadly.  Yet I find a way to show my love in fanfic and graphics and the same in some of the MLP cannons on here.  Its just finding a few good people to talk about this kind of thing of.    Also my love of history and the occult..

Neopets is still super popular (and this is now 2020 haha)? There are so many fan sites. Or maybe it's just me who knows them. And then the people on other virtual pet sites.

Honestly there are a ton of comics, art, games and that which could be more popular but then again when its a smaller group it feels more exclusive ya know haha. Then what u liked 2 years ago becomes mainstream ur like wot

Well I'm currently into Identity V a mobile game, it's not really popular and not many know of it. I kinda wish it's popular as FnaF so they can make their merch over here, but I highly doubt it. It's mostly popular in the Asia continents like China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Not surprise since it is a Chinese game but it is English adapted. I got my sister into it so I'm pretty good about that since at least I have someone to talk to about it and share interests in the game. Japan is doing a live play for this game and I hope someone could make a anime/manga out it!

I fear G4 horses will go that way :sunny:
now that I recall, been feeling that way for years with Metroid. Everyone is Zelda this, Zelda that (I began loving Zelda even more since BOTW tho. That game is good shit :mlp_icwudt:..... pony Link being canon helped :D, and not ashamed for it :proud:)..... Nintendo being neglectful with Metroid doesn’t help :Cozy:

Well I’m an aviation guy. There aren’t many to begin with, even fewer in public or in general  . I’ve got some channels to go to at least.
