So if you just saw the season 5 finale you'll know that Starlight starts hanging out with the mane 6 in the end. So is this just an end of season thing or is Starlight really a main character now?

I think that Starlight is now more of a Discord type of character, where she comes in every few episodes in the next season and possibly the season premiere.

I think Starlight's gonna be more of a reoccurring character. At most, she will be like the sixth ranger of the group where she will sometimes be there and sometimes not.

I barely doubt it. Introducting a main-main character six seasons in isn't as easy as it sounds, but potential for a recurring character is perfectly feasible.

 

Again, Chikorita nailed it, and she may be a sixth ranger-kind of character, where some episodes will have her, but some don't. I personally wish some appearances, specially with the kinda-lacking pacing of that redemption, so I will wait and see how it turns out.

I hope not.  It's way to late in the game for them to add another mane character into the cast.

She would most likely be another Discord and be a recurring character and have a similar character arch in learning to be a better person and understand friendship after reforming from evil to good.  Heck from the ending of the episode I have a feeling it is going to be similar to Sunset Shimmer's character arch in Rainbow Rocks.

This episode made me like her more as a character and I can see she is an interesting character, but I don't want her to make too many appearances in season 6, as having both her and Discord's arches going on at the same time seems a bit redundant in my opinion.  Plus I don't want to see her get in the way of screentime and development for any of the mane 6 next season.

I am fine with this as long as it doesn't lead to any of the mane 6 getting season 5 Fluttershy treatment or even season 3 Rarity treatment.

As Twilight said, Starlight's magic is insanely powerful so it would certainly be surprising to not see her quite often in season 6, obviously not a MAIN main character, but definitely there quite often. I honestly expect her to fill a spike-style role especially when the story is in Ponyville.

 

I think the main reason for it, is they knew when writing the finale that her redemption might come off as cheap to plenty of people, so they wanted to have her as a character that is constantly there so she has a chance to develop and we have a chance to see her as a good pony rather than the bad one she's been presented as.

It's too late for a mane seven. Way too late. Like Sunset Shimmer, Starlight has no ability whatsoever to gain a relationship with the mane six on the level they have with each other. She's a seventh wheel. 

 

In any case, yeah, I believe her status will be much on the level of Discord's.

Pretty much going to agree with what a ton of people are saying, she's going to be a reoccurring secondary cast member like Discord. Heck remember at the end of Season 4 Discord lined up for a hug with the Mane 6 yet he didn't become a main character.

I honestly don't see how they could really pull off a Mane 7. It just seems really off and I'd much rather see Starlight have more of a Discord type role in the series.

I really do want to see her in several episodes, but having her in all future episodes seems extreme.

Sunset Shimmer should be there... Not Starlight Skywalker. Or if not, keep it the Mane 6! I mean the show is just focusing too much on Twilight now. Season 3, 4 and 5 all dedicated to her getting the attention and dealing with a problem. I don't get how we're supposed to like Glimmer. She was going to lead the destruction over her own kind, over a childhood jealousy. More powerful than Twilight Sparkle? Great, just great. I guess it's not about who these people are as characters that defines their strength, it's like the prequel trilogy's force concept, you're just born with it I guess. I am so happy Equestria has a whiny and nefarious mare leading their future. Sunset Shimmer bawling her eyes out and knowing the error of her ways, was more realistic, than Glimmer's casual and soulless change of heart. 

 

Also... Poor Rainbow Dash... It's like the writers had fun torturing her in this episode

From what I could tell, the ending seemed to suggest that Starlight would be a main character. Twilight appears to be her only friend and Twilight also said she'd teach Starlight about friendship. I think we'll just have to wait for Season 6 to see what actually happens though.

I don't know, the initial redemption was rushed but all of them have been, so It'd be good to have her around as much as possible to DO things with it. I mean you know one movie made Sunset go from one of the least popular characters to one of the MOST because of they handled the continuing redemption.

Plus Twilight is frankly pretty spent, she doesn't have many places left to go, and a lot of the rest of the Mane cast is close to acheving their goals too. So it'd be good to have someone who has a LOT of places to go and many many things they need to learn.

I WAS HOPING THEY'D COVER IT but no, they didn't really add hints to Starlight joining the squad other than simplistic redemption themes. Maybe next season they'll have her officially fill that long awaited Unicorn gap? The Tree of Harmony seems to evolve and adapt over time- seems plausible a new element might reveal itself somehow. I don't think it's too late to add another friend to the mix. In fact, gaining new friends later in the plot kinda makes it more realistic. We all have buds that come later in our lives and stick with us.
