spoiler Who else applauds the writers for showing us Sombra as his prime?

Personally, i found Sombra in a less poeerful light. His execution throughout The Crystal Empire was well done, but i felt that hype led to nothing. But i was satisfied seeing him again in the finale....and it proves that he is truly as powerful abd ruthless as they said. Even when he didnt have a form, his traps and the fear towards him was more than enough to give him that reputation. It paid off for me.

In that AU, Sombra manages to control all of the crystal ponies, and spread his empire...basically winning from the looks of it even against Celestia's magic and a full army. He disnt need to suck away magic and leave them defensless in order to win (Tirek).

I've a little about Sombra in the IDW comics....so is it canon that Sombra isnt even a real unicorn? Not even a real pony?

Sombra was entirely Meghan McCarthy's creation, and she said herself he was supposed to be a Sauron-esque villain - a villain who never had a physical threat, but one through name and influence. It was something the show had never done before, naturally, so it was bold new territory for the writers to explore. True, Sombra's portrayal in the empire premiere was not that great, it's tricky to pull off the Sauron-style villain at all, let alone only with only 44 minutes to tinker with. Me, I was a fan of Sombra from the original S3 Premiere, though sadly I felt like a minority at that point in time.

Very excited that this alternate timeline gave us a very solid, detailed look at just how dangerous he was, with action to back up the appearance. The mind-control armor he created seems to be based off the 'Door to your Worst Nightmare Doorway' that we saw Twilight and Spike get caught in, in the S3 Premiere. Same green magical glow, and it would explain why the ponies would do his bidding, if they're trapped inside a suit of armor that keeps them sustained in a trance-like state.

Yes, very much applause. This was exactly the kind of episode plot we needed to be able to see Sombra really doing things, without having to bring him back to life into the main storyline.

In the comics he's an umbra, a shadow creature, who was transformed into a pony in order to infiltrate the Crystal Empire. This explains why he doesn't have a cutie mark.

As for the show, well, I don't think it's necessarily gone against the idea.

For a while, post his initial defeat at the end of the Crystal empire 2 parter, I kept having to be reminded that in the flashbacks that Sombra was a ruthless tyrant conqueror and power-hungry warmongering leader.

And now this finale doubly confirms it.  But it does bring it close to the top, that Sombra is one of the top tier sinister villains that fortuitously was defeated before he could fully come back.  (I'm still not sure if that horn at the end of the 2 parter will foreshadowing anything, but heh, it could happen).

Totally. I've always thought that he was one of the most powerful villains because in his original appearance, he is not at full strength and he was still such a major threat.

He is also one of my favorite villains because he resembles Sauron from Lord of the Rings (probably not a coincidence)

Yeah, even I am having thoughts on his horn. I am not sure about this, but do you fellas also agree that if ever the Crystal Heart gets knocked out of place, the magical power of the Crystal Empire that binds him and keeps him in check would slowly dissipate and he would return once more...

Cause I am working on a massive story.. and I truly need inputs from multiple individuals to make it reach up to expectations.
