movies/tv Favorite Christmas movies.

It's a Wonderful Life, The Nightmare Before Christmas (doubles as a Halloween movie), and Olive the Other Reindeer all of these my family can sit down to watch but if there's one that I have to say is a favorite it would be . . . A Christmas Story. So simple, so humble, so frank but heartfelt.

Most of what I like has been mentioned. Miracle on 34th street. The original Grinch. Home Alone.

But there's two underrated classics that are closer to home than you think

My-Little-Pony:-Twinkle-Wish--pTRU1-1271

Both films are underrated. Good animation. Nice musical scores and decent characters. The latter being the last great MLP release prior to FiM.

It may be May, but I want to share my opinion here. I LOVE the series of the movies simply called Santa Claus. Particularly, Santa Claus 2 was my favorite. We need to watch it this November or December.

-The Polar Express

-Home Alone (and 2 as well, it's still funny even if it's recycled)

-Christmas is Here Again (2007)

-A Christmas Story

-A Christmas Carol (specifically the Alastair Sim one)

-Miracle on 34th Street (the original)

-It's a Wonderful Life (only the last 20-40 minutes of it)

-The original Chuck Jones Grinch, not that Ron Howard/Jim Carrey spaz attack.

-The Santa Clause

-A Charlie Brown Christmas (had more balls than Die Hard if you ask me)

-Mickey's Christmas Carol, an acquired taste.

Guilty pleasures:

-Anything Rudolph-related, including both the original and the 1998 film. They'd all make great RiffTrax/parody material, especially the sequels.

-Anything from Rankin/Bass, again would be great RiffTrax material if people didn't let nostalgia stop them.

-Die Hard...seriously, I feel like punching people straight in the fucking face every time they bring up that criminally overrated movie in a conversation like this. Not a Christmas movie. It's an action movie set during Christmas. There's a difference. Because fuck you, it's Die Hard.

PS, Die Hard was released in July.

Frozen has become my xmas tradition movie. Also perhaps not really a Christmas movie, but still Winter-y is Rise of The Guardians. There's a great one by Ardman Animation studio called Arthur Christmas, have you guys heard of it? It's VERY British :P

I also see from previous comments that Die Hard is contentious, but it's a good alternative to kid's xmas movies or other soppy stuff. Plus Alan Rickman :)

My favorite Christmas movie was Santa Claus 2. I watched it as a young child and I remember really liking the things in it. I haven't rewatched it in forever though.

EDIT: Oh I already posted here lmao

Our must watch on Christmas Eve and Day:

-Muppets Christmas Carol

- Elf

- The Snowman/Father Christmas (might be UK only?)

- The Polar Express

- The Tailor of Gloucester (UK only again?)

- Robbie the Reindeer (UK only again?)

I have no idea if any of the UK made cartoons go abroad or not.

Then just on run up to Christmas we tend to watch these:

- Home Alone 1 and 2

- National Lampoon

- Jingle all the Way

- The Santa Clause

- Die Hard (ITS A CHRISTMAS FILM!)

I forgot about the Mickey Mouse Christmas Cartoons! Once Upon a Christmas is SO GOOD!!! I just love the Goofy and Max story.

And Christmas Carol with Scrooge McDuck, a true classic.
