Star Wars: The Force Awakens

disney fuck you... 95% of the EU fandom hate you

95%? Oh really? Where'd you get those statistics from? I think it's pretty obvious that most people like it considering its high rating and massive amount of praise from star wars fans. I liked it. One doesn't have to hate the film just because it's not a 100% accurate to the Expanded Universe.

i think JJ could have done a fuck ton better if disney didn't fucking destroy 35 years of SW cannon like the sith and jedi Holocron's that could learn from, or the fact that snoke is either Plagaus or..OR ONE OF PALPATINE'S clone's like HELLO. i'm a EU fan of recent like 8 moths but still disney fuck you... 95% of the EU fandom hate you.

I like it and so do my friends so I don't think your 95% figure means anything. I've been an actual fan of star wars since 2012 and why would you judge a film based on the fact certain things that did not exist in the film's story that were done by different people..?

I heavily doubt that JJ Abrams would go out of his way to have real props, practical effects, and a classical approach to the film if he didn't have the best interests for the saga.

Of course he would. For money. He couldn't care less about the saga.

Also, for people who have a strong hate for Disney because of its disregard for the Expanded Universe, we do see JJ Abrams channeling influence from the EU within the film. People were begging Disney to do something with the EU, and they have. Reminder that Force Stasis, Force Mind Domination, the ability to steal energy from the sun (similar to the Star Forge), and Rakata Prime (the final location) are pretty much canon now? It's humorous because now people are hating on JJ Abrams for channeling influence from the EU. Some people simply cannot be content...

We weren't begging for a few crumbs. They split the story they split their fandom. As simple as that.

Yes, because it's not like the original trilogy, prequel trilogy, weren't crumbs on which the Expanded Universe was developed. The Expanded Universe came after the films, not the other way around. No one had problems with the original trilogy because there was no Expanded Universe to use as a basis. But because of the fact that JJ Abrams, Lucasfilm's writers, the Disney/Lucasfilm producers, chose NOT to follow the Expanded Universe (which had such brilliant storylines such as the Emperor's clone and dark side Luke), the fans have no other choice but to hate on it because it's not the original trilogy. JJ Abrams could've followed the Thrawn story arc and people would still hate JJ Abrams, simply because it's a new film and not the original trilogy. I see that I've welcomed myself into the pity that is fandom.

Didn't Disney at least let him stay escaped from the Sarlacc?

Either way, he wouldn't be good as a bounty hunter after 30 years. The prime age for that line of work would most definitely be from one's young adult (18-19) to when one is 30.

That's why I'm binge watching them

I'm binging as well. My husband has only watched them each one time, so it's mainly to get him up to speed.

I thought it was definitely better than the prequels at least. A really great continuation imo, love the new characters too. :)

I agree. Definitely better than the prequels. However, I will say, maybe I'm the only one in the world, but i liked the prequels with the exception of Jar jar. In fact, ROTS ranks solidly as my top prequel favorite under the originals. I personally liked Hayden Christensen and I was enthralled by his fall to the dark side in Ep3. But all in all I am happy TFA was more in line visually with the originals.

for me it was super choppy and left a ton of questions unanswered and a lot of rey and fin somehow just picking up a lightsaber and swishing it around, against anything and  vs a trained *albent* acolyte dark jedi. also rey....you can't just learn to use the force in what 30 mins....like the fuck...uughhh...but it was okay, i'm seeing it again sunday to analyze everything else and see if i can fill in the gaps from a second viewing.

I would venture to say it was intended to leave questions, that's how Star Wars rolls. Imagine the questions immediately after Ep4. And then it took two more films to wrap up, still leaving all the questions about how these villians came to be in the first place. This movie only addresses one third of the story and then is going to commercials for a year.

Keep into mind the choreography that JJ Abrams had chosen to depict within the film. Reminiscent of the original trilogy, the lightsabers once again seem to carry a heavier weight, making their use akin to a longsword rather than a katana. Because of this, we must take into consideration that both Rey and Kylo Ren were emotionally disadvantaged. It is highly likely that Ren's fiery emotion, brought upon by his killing of Han Solo, had left his fighting form heavily lacking. He became careless, and as a result he suffered the consequences. When we see Rey facing Ren, one can also take into consideration her experience with melee weapons. Before ever leaving Jakku, it is highly likely that she must have had to use her two-handed melee weapon often in order to defend her scavenged parts/rations/etc. Because of the fact that Ren was emotionally vulnerable, and that Rey most likely had strong experience with close quarters combat, one can deduct that this allowed Rey to have equal footing, though less trained compared to Kylo Ren.

Also keep in mind that the force can come naturally, as it exists within/around all living beings. We see this in A New Hope, where Luke is guided by the spirit of Obi-Wan to let go of the use of the targeting systems and just follow his instincts. This is an example of an untrained force-user able to use the force naturally. I don't believe that people cannot use the force until they are trained. Rather, these force-users are trained so that they can better understand/utilize their force powers.

I'm kind of sad that Captain Phasma didn't do anything. She was basically the new Fett. Hopefully she'll do something in the next film

There's a whole trilogy to explain any unanswered questions. I mean I don't see much point in having a planned trilogy if the films are all gonna be self contained stories.

And I won't deny that Rey learning the force was a little weird but the title of the film is "the force awakens" so I'm guessing it has something to do with that

i mean its like korra learning air bending it was like "oh i'm at my lowest point" powers ex macha to the rescue. but at least she had even like a day or three of training...i would have started to adjust if she was like hmmm *she gets angry and force levitates something* first as opposed to a third attempt mind trick...  i mean even what's her face matasma or whatever has a sense of the force

this was a post on facebook i saw and pretty much sums up what i'm trying to say.

I just saw a bootleg of episode 7. It's really, really bad. Not only an insult to the people who have read the books, but also to the people who have only seen the 6 movies.

Jedi can now stop blaster bolts in mid-air.Why the heck do they still use lightsabers if they can do that?!

The movie is really dumb. It's a remake of Episode 4, with each character in that movie having a counterpart in this one. Even Jek Porkins has one. Even the Death Star has one.

And the movie makes no sense. Children strong with the Force can now use it without even knowing what it is. They don't need training or anything. They just use it. Not only that, but everyone can fight with a lightsaber. Not just Force users, everyone!

And the biggest insult to EU Fans, the name of Han Solo's kid. I'm not going to spoil it. But it's just a huge Fuck You from Disney to us.

At least he can be at peace in the Netherworld Of The Force.

Too bad he can't come back as a Force Ghost, though.

This completely goes against Canon. Chewbacca is still alive, and Chewbacca dies in the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion. Han Solo was still alive, and turned to alcohol.

I'm sorry but why would anyone complain about something as unimportant as how the force is used on lasers. I mean you can strangle people, move objects, can tell things to users they didn't know before, but when they can use it on lasers that's just going too far. And I'm pretty sure lightsabers weren't just used to deflect lasers, they were used to, you know kill people.

The similarities to episode 4 is a valid criticism but the characters are very different, there's plenty of new scenes in the film and, I'm gonna be honest here, I think Kylo Ren is better then Darth Vader.

You know in the original film Luke does fairly well the first time he uses a lightsaber. Remember when he's got the blind fold on with the little robot? Yeah quick question where is the backlash for that? And Ok the force was kinda weird but there was supposed to have been a shift of some kind in the force so maybe that had something to do with it. I mean the force is supposed to be this big mysterious thing so anything is possible.

And who cares if the character is good, nah the name is just everything. Ben instead of Jacen?! That just ruins the entire thing.

No it doesn't because the expanded universe is no longer canon. And do you people really expect the writers to follow the expanded universe? There is so much of it that trying to follow it whilst writing a movie set 30 years after episode 6 would be practically impossible.
