I'm guessing 17-18, seeing as they're portrayed as seniors (or maybe juniors). I'd like to think that they're not all 18, but some of them (maybe Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Fluttershy) are a bit younger than the others. Pinkie Pie is shown to live with Maud, and Rarity runs a business, so I think they'd be older. Also Sunset Shimmer looks to be around 18, since she's been "princess of the fall formal" for 3 years and EQG1 was her fourth. I think that Twilight is probably 18 as well, both in the human universe and in the MLP universe.

I always imagine they're juniors or seniors due to the CMC in this world being obviously freshmen. So I'd say around 16-18.

Dunno if it applies to EG, but didn't Fluttershy say she was a year older than one of the other mane six in one of the episodes?  If so and it applies here, she's probably 18 and that one is probably 17, again, assuming no one failed a grade.

 

Of course, it's also entirely possible that their "human" world doesn't function like ours and high school may not be the same years of their lives as it is ours.  I mean, even in other countries school works differently and lasts different amounts of time, so why wouldn't theirs be a bit different as well?

If the mane six or seven are seniors, what the hell is Big Mac doing at their school? He's older than them, isn't he??? Unless he visits the school a lot as alumni, I don't get it one bit.

Maybe Fluttershy has a weird birthday like I do. She would have started Kindergarten at 4 but she got held back from starting until she was 5. That almost happened to me but it didn't. Fluttershy started senior year at 17 and graduates at 18. I started at 16 and graduated at 17. Go September birthdays

Well I have to eliminate years first. I'm eliminating freshmen year because they mentioned the freshmen year already. I'm also eliminating Sophomore year because Rarity clearly said in the first movie "Freshmen Year they were very, very popular" and if they were Sophomore, she would've said "Last year they were very, very popular" So it leaves me to either Junior or Senior year, I'm guessing Senior Year because Dean Cadence mentioned in Friendship Games to Twilight about "finishing up her time at Crystal Prep." I hope Hasbro answers that question soon though. :/ Because those are personally my predictions. Also there were three pictures of the fall formal and that would mean 1 for freshmen year, 1 for sophomore year, and 1 for junior year. I also think that the CMC are Freshmen.

First off, I'm not sure where you got that information, but if it's true, it's still entirely possible that they're seniors. For starters, the first movie makes a big deal about the "Fall Formal". This is probably an event hosted in celebration of the start of the new school year, and most likely doesn't occur long after Labor Day in September.

 

If the second movie does take place 5 months after the first, it would land around January, right at the end of winter break, as the students are yet again coming back to school for the next semester. I guess CHS has a habit of having events as the kids return to school.

 

Granted, it doesn't look like winter in the second movie, but it also doesn't look like fall in the first movie either. I guess with no pegasi around to control the weather, they're always in a spring-like environment.

 

As a second theory, perhaps the school runs on trimesters instead of semesters. This would make a lot more sense, considering the three events over the course of three movies -- one for each trimester. The Fall Formal takes place at the 1st Trimester sometime between September and December, the Battle of the Bands takes place in the 2nd Trimester in January to April, and the Friendship Games takes place in the 3rd Trimester in May to August.

Well... we know Sunset's in her Fourth Year. That makes her 17-18. This is due to us seeing 3 Princess of the Fall Formal pictures and then assuming that the Friendship Games happens after that. We also know that Fluttershy is a year older than Pinkie Pie. This means that Pinkie is, at maximum, 17. Twilight is probably a similar age to Sunset, if not the same age, since we know she was set up to go "Somewhere Else" in Crystal Prep, which could imply her going into her next level of education, placing her also at 17-18. That leaves the three difficult ones- Rarity, AJ, and RD. Rarity, I think, is a Senior. This is because she's old enough and rich enough to have her own equipment to make enough clothes for a ball (See: Friendship Games) and, as stated above, she can't be a Freshman or a Sophmore. As for AJ and RD, I don't really know.

 

However, I doubt any of them were held back a grade, because if they hadn't, they would have probably participated in the previous Friendship Games. (Especially Rainbow)

 

So, for a TLDR:

Sunset: 17/18

In my opinion, Rainbow is actually younger than the rest of the group. Not only does she act (and look) more immaturish, but her talk about the Friendship Games gives us a little bit of information as well. She talks about it as though she were present, but made no mention of her own contribution (if she had competed, she probably would've at least mentioned it).

 

Therefore, my theory is that Rainbow Dash was present at the previous Friendship Games, but wasn't able to compete because of her age; she was too young at the time to compete, so she was watching from the sidelines as a fan of the games. This is hinted at by the line "This time, things are gonna be different," implying that she wasn't able to contribute last time. Her extreme hatred for Crystal Prep was born from a feeling of helplessness as she was forced to stand by and watch the home team get clobbered.

 

She also seems to have the biggest connection to the human CMC (at the start of EQG 3, she states she was going to "pony up" for them). Granted, the human CMC don't have a lot of screen-time or interaction with the Humane 6, but Rainbow Dash is the only one who's ever gone out of her way to do something for them. This is probably because the CMC aren't comfortable extending their friendship circle past those in their own age group, but are okay with being pals with Rainbow since she's slightly younger than the rest of the "big girls".

 

With all that being said, I think Rainbow Dash is a junior, perhaps 16-17.

I actually thought about this a bit too much. Since Sunset was in her 4th year of high school (judging by her past awards as Princess of the Fall Formal), and I can only assume the Mane Six are in the same grade, then they would be around 17-18.

 

And, since Sunset has only been in the human realm for approximately 4 years, that could also explain why the rest of the Mane Six are familiar with the Friendship Games (as they have family/friends that might have participated).

 

Jumping back to an earlier post I made in a different thread, the Crusaders and other younger ponies must be freshmen, placing them around 14-15 years old.

 

I also figured that Big Mac must be older than the Mane 6 (7) by only a year or so, since he went to school with them. But then a small Big Mac/Cheerilee ship reference was pointed out to me. I initially thought that Cheerilee was their age, too (but she's a teacher, so obviously not). My next guess was that she was fresh out of college, maybe 23-24 years old.

 

From there, I could only speculate that Big Mac was held back a few years, or maybe even voluntarily dropped out to keep the family business running.

 

Now, I'm no ace MLP analyst, but that’s the best I can come up with.
