Cosplay or Crossplay? Which do you do, and what costumes have you done?

Once upon a time, before I was a Christian, I crossdressed in private for the sake of homosexual eroticism. Four years later, I don't anymore, but I've been taking an interest in it again for the sake of cosplay, or as I've discovered it's called, "crossplay." (I've been having some difficulty reconciling this desire with my faith lately, though.)  I no longer have any attraction to the same sex or any gender identity issues, but I digress. This is merely history leading up to current interests.

In any case, this has me curious to see if any of my fellow bronies have pulled off convincing crossplays as their favorite ponies, or if you're a general cosplayer, talk about that, too!

If I'm being honest, I've always found female characters more interesting as fictional people. Cosplay has always interested me, but the lack of interesting male characters is a problem for me. At most the only male cosplays I've wanted to do are The Doctor (Doctor Who, but I'm sure you knew that) and Kanaan. (Star Wars: Rebels) What has me interested in crossplay is that my girlfriend of two months has a high school friend who is also a heterosexual who went to Youmacon in downstate Michigan dressed as (a very convincing) Fluttershy. I've since befriended him and we talk about crossplay.

I've got a Princess Luna crossplay in the works, and lately its occupying my thoughts when I'm idle. Debating whether to order the basic pieces soon. Have a local friend and cosplay designer that has agreed to help me and keep my supplies at her house since my parents would likely object. (I'm 20 and living at home still)  That's really my only reservation on the horizontal plane, from human to human interaction. Going behind their backs and hiding, and even then I'm not sure if dressing as a woman with no sexual perversion or gender confusion is a sin or not.

Anywho, I've got an amazon list of potential dresses, accessories, etc. that I'm probably going to order and ship to my friend's house here soon. I'd like to get the costume made, ready, and stored for the day that I'm able to use it. If anyone is curious about what I've picked, I'll make a separate post with the amazon links.  Your turn!

Jesus wears a robe like dress in most deprections, and priests and biships wear them all the time as well... don't let faith get in the way of wanting to do something a bit daft.

Besides if you are going too let some religious mumbo-jumbo spoil your fun, There is a glorious thing on the Internet called Rule 63. Why not just go as a male version of the character. As long as people can tell the character your personifying, the actual gender of it is not really relevant.

I have always wanted to cosplay, but I've never had the confidence or opportunity to do so. I'd so much love to cosplay like these guys though and as these same characters, that is the DREAM.

I will be honest with you, I have never crossplayed and don't really plan to because it is already scary for met cosplay. SO going that step further is a bit to far for me right now. Yes if I let my hair grow long I look like a girl, I don't have to do anything for that but it is still scary. The one time I have cosplayed recently was at animecon as edward elrich from Full Metal Alchemist. I was there for 3 days but I cosplayes only once because I found it a bit too scary. I really love it that you can do this an I would love to see your costume, I don't think it's a problem or a bad thing to dress as the other gender. Better said More power to boys and girls who want to dress as the other gender and with it smash the gender wall.

Well, blurring the gender lines isn't exactly my goal. I'm a firm believer that each gender has it's role, especially in the family. I just love the clothes, characters, and the feeling of being tucked. It's very different.

Uhm, if I take the link on my Amazon list, will it show you the list or should I get each link and list it?

Yes, but robes were a unisex clothing choice in first century Rome, especially in the lowest classes of people in the middle east. These depictions are irrelevant to me anyways, as they're not Jesus, but rather an artist's depiction. We don't know what His earthly body looked like, but we do know from the book of Isaiah He was actually quite ugly by human standards. What better way for the King of the Universe to blend in on Earth? And as for "faith getting in the way", it's supposed to take priority in my life. If I find out it is morally wrong for me as a Christian man to dress this way, then I will stop. Because ultimately, I'm concerned about my relationship to God. Also, whatever the bishops or pope wear are irrelevant. They're men like me. That's all. (You're speaking with an American protestant) But, anyways, Rule 63 kind of ruins it for me. For me, the character's clothing is a big draw, and that's something sometimes defined by the gender. In this case, I know Luna doesn't exactly have many depictions in the show for me to go on, but it's something that can be easily thrown together. Sorry if I seem a little knit-picky about my faith, theology kind of requires that. It's like if someone made a statement on a scientific topic that wasn't /quite/ right, and then a scientist who hears it clears the air with how it /really/ is.

I came to discuss cosplay/crossplay, and if a fellow Christian has solid criticism for me, then I will listen, but don't be surprised if I take opinions of anyone else with a grain of salt. No offense is intended by that, as well. It's like listening to family before friends.

Actually, they've managed to create a face of what men looked like around the time of Jesus, they applied the few descriptions of him in the bible just to see how he might have possibly looked. And he does indeed look abit ugly. You wouldn't see THAT face on the roof of the cistine chapel XD. It is however a more broader, more expressive face so not all bad. XD

And I'm agnostic-athiest. How people dress is a stupid thing only humans about, not higher beings on a different plane of existence. Kinda makes "God" seem like a petty asshole of wearing a dress is a "sin". :P

I've always wanted to cosplay myself, but have never been able to due to parents. Once I get my own place however, gonna invest in a fursuit or make something of my own.

How did I know it'd be a fursuit? Good on ya! I like 'em when they're good quality.

I totally want to crossplay/cosplay either way, now I've had a few plans but never really gone full in. That is I don't own anything for it. So, I'm definitely not against it, although the reason why I haven't done it is simply because I forget it. :P

I definitely want to cosplay sometime. I bought a full Kazuto Kirigaya custom made costume to go to a con in, but I ended up in the ER the same weekend the con was going on.

Alright, so hopefully this works. Here's the items for my Luna cosplay, these are going to be altered by my local friend who is basically a cosplay Rarity, note that some items I am kind of in between on due to looks or price. Also, the dumb corset link at the bottom is supposed to be blue and not that dumb Snow White thing, ugh.

And if any of the ladies or fellow crossdressers have a recommendation for a bra and panty set, give me a response. My false breasts are gonna need something, as well as some comfy snug underwear to keep my tuck in place. I'd like to avoid taping as much as possible.

I do both

I have cosplayed Ciel Phantomhive

working on Hidan from Naruto or itachi uchiha

i have cosplayed as Mizore from Rosario Vampire

and Tsukune from Rosario Vampire

Pictures? I always enjoy seeing how well a guy can pull off looking like a girl. One of my goals as Luna.

I'm secretly hoping I get to say "IT"S A TRAP!" to someone. XDDD

Crossplaying has always been on my mind, but I dont have the face for it... I'm too handsome to look like a girl... as for cosplaying I've done RED Scout's outfit and thinking of doing RED Medic's, RED Pyro's, Boba Fett, a Scout Trooper or my OC next...

That would be Rize Kamishiro from Tokyo Ghoul. :3

I recognized the bottom character as being from the same series, I just didn't know she was. It's on that never-ending-list that I'll get around to watching someday.

Did.  SomeONE.  SAY.  COSPLAY?!

funny-game-glitch-shepard-head.gif

I've always wanted to cosplay!!  I think for my first cosplay, I want to be my humanized pony oc since they're simple.  I just need to get a green wig for them since I don't want to go through the hassle of waiting for my hair to grow out again and get it dyed, also keep an eye out for something they'd wear.  Maybe try making something that represents them since I still have yet to design a cutiemark for them, since I'm lazy and can't figure it out for them.

I also want to cosplay Solas and Krem from Dragon Age: Inquisition.  There's also this character from a visual novel game called The Arcana that's named Julian that I'm DYING to cosplay(maybe without that mask that he wears sometimes).  I was considering doing something for my Fallout 4 sosu too but I think that might be a bit much for now.

I just feel like I can't do it though, it doesn't really help that I'll never get my sewing machine back and now I need to save up to get another one...  I don't know, I guess I wanted to lose some weight before really trying to cosplay so it'd give me time to perfect costume making since I'm such a perfectionist.

I don't do either currently, but I've thought about doing both.

Cosplay (referring to sex)- TF2 Sniper (I can do his voice really well. Pref. Red).

Crossplay (also ref. to sex)- Vayne from League of Legends (Wristbows are pretty cool).

I actually did a Big Mac EQG cosplay for Homecoming week one time. It was so easy and it looked a lot like him actually XD

I've cosplayed as Ghostface and the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp version) before. Nothing too wild.

If I had the body for it, I'd totally try crossplaying as some female characters. They seem to have more interesting designs than males.

But, sadly I'm not feminine enough. Nor do I have the confidence to walk around dressed like a woman.

I mostly Cosplay, though not so much anymore ....I've done gender-swapped characters in the past but I've never really done Crossplay....unless you count the time I cosplayed as Kogarashi on a dare *shudders* *attempts to forget embarrassment* >_<

I've always wanted to cosplay just never had the funds to do so. I did try once to make a female link cosplay due to lack of funds at the time it kinda flopped, But since I have a steady job I am getting things for a cosplay of a humanized version of my oc. Just trying to find a bi colored wig that is also the color I want is going to be pretty tough. Everything else I can handle since I have the materials to make the horn, wings, dress etc.

I have a "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" Roland Tembo costume I put together using mostly original pieces. An original Willis&Geiger Hemingway bush jacket just like Pete Postlethwaite wore in the movie, an, after much research, I decided the hat used was an Akubra Leisure Time with custom band, which I put together myself:

I don't crossplay, but I would cosplay as a gender-bend of a female character which depends on who. I never cosplay before, but If I have the materials for it, I would.

I really do want to cosplay more, im more of a casual cosplayer. im not heavily part of it, but I like to join in. A few problems stand in my way though;

1. money

2. time

3. body type

Im one of those people who is very insecure about cosplaying certain characters because im bigger. Im not enormous, like Jasper from Steven Universe is the perfect cosplay for me, but I get put off wanting to pursue characters like Lara Croft, Storm and Rogue and Tifa.

The cosplays I have managed to do have been;

Ash Ketchum (original look)

Rainbow Dash/Wonderbolts Dash

Hana Inuzuka (Naruto)

Anna Parquin Rogue (Xmen movies)

I have serious doubts that you somehow managed to just erase all homoerotic thoughts from your mind. Not to accuse you of anything, but repressing isn't good for you, mentally, and if you are you should probably just come to accept yourself.

On the topic of cosplay though, I do really want to cosplay killer queen (in a style similar to my avatar)
