Not only because the creator came back, so did a writers from seasons 1-3! Squidward is torured alot less now but they still do it but it's actually funny this time and not funny like seasons 6-8 and the first half of nine. Here are a list of episodes that the creator worked on:

It's still not as good as it was in seasons 1-3, but it has definitely gotten better since Stephen Hillenburg returned. Unfortunately I won't be watching the next one when it airs because it's on at the same time as the Gravity Falls finale, but I will at some point.
