gaming CoX character builder?

Ahhh I bet more than one of us remember the greatest superhero MMORPG. One of the essential elements of that game that made it so popular was the dizzying amounts of character customization it had, from the beginning and only added more options as it went on.

Now with City of Heroes sadly, heatbreakingly even, down I do hear tell that some are still able to use the character creator to at least express some comic book superhero creativity with.

Does anypony know if this exists, how does one get it, and if it works on Mac?

I'm fairly certain that a program called "Icon" is what you're looking for. To my knowledge they also have a tool that allows you to explore most of the overworld once you've created your character (albeit completely devoid of any NPC's). In any case, the Titian Network should be your main source for anything related to City since its untimely closure.

Thank you kindly for that, NCSoft. :unamused:

Ha, that's actually a pretty fitting nod to the game. Is there a villain version called "Face" too? (Rhetorical.)

*sigh* Yeah.  :sunny: Here's hoping City of Titans pulls through. Thank you though for the directions.

Indeed, I've read a lot about these 'successor' projects. Didn't Titans raise something like almost 750k in their Kickstarter? For a game that's supposedly being built almost entirely by volunteers, that's one devoted fan-base. :wau:

Heroes are never down for long.

It's true and they're farther along than one might think. Check out there site sometime, the actual development is even dubbed "the Phoenix Project."

Also, was there a hero or villain you were particularly proud of or identified with the most?

The Phoenix Project, clever. One rises from the ashes and begins again. I'll keep that on scope, thanks.

Hmm.. I was kind of on and off the game when the shutdown was announced so I believe I had a few later Issue numbers outstanding, but I did have a large fondness for Manticore. I've always liked his backstory of initially being angry and troubled against the world due to the death of his parents at a young age, but ultimately rising above it to become the hero he was. To me, the best developed characters are those who have lived through times of being dominated by negativity in their lives and yet, through their own experiences and volition (and in Manticore's case; a little help from another), eventually overcome it to become a better person. I've always felt that those people are stronger having experienced both sides of the spectrum in that regard, and it resonated with my own experiences as a teenager, before I allowed myself a more positive outlook on the world and got to where I am today.

Alas, I digress. How about yourself? :)

@@Dark Horse,

Uhhh I was referring to a character you created. I suppose it would have to be Statesman. On the surface Superman in all but name, but he's actually more than the stars and stripes. I liked his origin story of essentially being the modern scion of Zeus and how he didn't wear his age with the same grace of Captain America. Not that he was an asshole, but he could be standoffish and a bit of dick but ultimately wanted to do what was right.

By the way, would you happen to be a mac user of the Icon system?

Oh. I just assumed you were talking about one of the main characters. Oops.

I haven't actually used Icon myself. I only know of its existence. I'm sure their forums have everything you need to know about it though.

Well no because as an RPG, I always found it interesting what people put into their origin stories, costumes, powers, etc.

I wish. You know those time when you get right up to the finish line and run smack into a brick wall? Yeah it's one of those times.

Never mind, found someone with a sledgehammer.

True enough, I can see where you're coming from. Admittedly though most of my time on the game was spent tinkering with the enormous amount of customization than actually role-playing my character. I'd spend literally hours just testing out builds and looks. The same thing happened when I tried out Cryptic's "Champions Online".

I love high customization in games and this was just far too easy a distraction for me. :P As such, I never really got around to having a character with a solid origin, at least not one that I had put any significant amount of time or thought into. I suppose now it is too late.

Sorry, wish I could help you more with the program, but it's just not something I've become familiar with. I suppose a part of me just feels that using it would only make me wish I could play the full game again..
