Cooperative OC Creation Team

This here is a place where great minds can come together to create high quality OCs. Wether you have an idea for a new OC, have an existing OC that needs improvement, or just want to help others with their OCs, this is the place for you. If you would like help with an OC, feel free to ask. The goal here is to form a group of people who are comfortable working together on OCs. Please use this site's database for the creation of your OCs, links will be provided below each Weekly Theme. All criticism here MUST BE CONSTRUCTIVE, blatant insults are not welcome and will be reported. Also, alicorn OCs are OKAY, they just need to be well thought out.

Each week, I will also be posting a suggested theme as inspiration for new OCs. This is NOT mandatory, it is JUST A SUGGESTION. Eventually, if we get enough people involved in this, we may even start voting on the best OC for the Weekly Theme. You will find the Weekly Theme in this post, as I will be editing it in each week. I will also post the theme as a new post so it can be seen among the recent posts as well. This way, new members can see the theme in the original post and members who are already participating in the group will see it among the new posts and their notifications.

This is a relaunch of an already existing group called "OC Creation Team." The group was originally started by another member who put me in charge, but I could not edit the original post so I restarted it here.

If you would like help with an OC, but you also want to stay anonymous, feel free to PM me to ask me to post your OC here for you. This way we can help you, but you aren't getting any unwanted attention.

In Sickness and in Health!

Now for a more interesting theme with a bit of duality. This week the theme is all about sickness. From doctors curing the ill, to mad scientists creating new ways to make their bio weapons more excruciating, we are looking for characters with a background in medical science (or perhaps magic?). Have fun!

It is recommended that you use this site's Character Databases for creating your character. When you post your character here, please include a picture of your character, a link to the character's page, and a brief description of the character. If an image is not available, please be thorough in your description of the character. Click here for Everfree Empire characters (less strict, anything goes as long as it doesn't break the rules of the site) or here for Equestrian Empire characters (more strict, everything has to be believable as something that could appear in the show)

Generally I will try to post a new theme at midnight Friday night going into Saturday Eastern Standard Time (USA).

Why @@Seamore Sandwich, I think you are trying to seduce me!

But on a serious note, I may give this a try, though it may be taxing to try and write TWO Alicorn ideas in one go and draw them up when I am still not able to finish my other drawings lol.  Still, may be worth while.  Seemed Bashful Thread / Scissor Biter worked well enough for Changelings, so maybe I can pull off a second Alicorn which is an unrestricted attempt (The one I am currently working on is a personal challenge of taking everything people hate about Alicorn OCs and popularly hated bits and see if I can build an OC that isn't face-desk worthy on sight).

So what are some of the things you are looking over when you first think of a GOOD Alicorn character?

I like working on OCs, but hate that I rarely get around to using them. That being the case, I would indeed be interested in helping people with their characters, though I'm not likely to actually create more for this myself. Alicorns first huh? Tricky subject, but I see no reason it can't be pulled off well.

@@MDLineArt

The qualities of a good Alicorn OC are that it makes sense as a character that could be introduced in the show or may have been possible in either an alternate timeline or a different time period but still fits the show's themes. Basically, an Alicorn Prince of War and Death doesn't quite fit, but Pixel Wavelength Princess of the Internet does, as does Lightning Bliss Princess of Rainbows (though her tail style is questionable as it isn't something seen in the show, sometimes an OC needs a unique feature to differentiate them from others). Also, nopony's perfect. To compare to super heroes: the typical alicorn OC is like Superman, indestructible with a toolbox of powers and can never do anything wrong. That should be avoided. What you really need is a character more like Captain America. Sure, he is stronger than the average man, but he's not so incredibly powerful that nothing can stop him.

@@Carl Poppa

Keep in mind, the theme is optional. Anyone can come up with any kind of OC they want at any time. If you have a friend that you think may be interested, feel free to invite them. If you have an already existing OC that you feel needs improvement, I'd definitely be willing to help with that myself. Right now is an important time for this group as we are trying to get the ball rolling, so we definitely need more members.

@everyone

Now in order to save this theme so people can look back at previous themes, I'm posting it again here. Next week I will be putting the new theme in the original post, replacing the old theme completely.

That's So O.P.

This week: Alicorns!

Yeah, that's right: Alicorns. One of the most frowned upon things in this fandom is an Alicorn OC. Let's change that. This week, let's try to come up with well balanced Alicorns to prove the fandom wrong about them. Let's create Alicorns that make sense and aren't overpowered. Alicorns can be just as flawed as any other pony without being edgy black and red ponies with a dark past. I recommend thinking of what they were before they ascended. This may be a challenge, so think long and hard about it. I'd love to see what you can create.

My time to shine! *pulls out about 15 bad OCs that were prototypes for Bramble Twist*

Crazy OC lady in the making? Perhaps.

I'll look at Dawnshine, my first OC who was an alicorn. Maybe I'll fix her or something IDK

Brand=New!

Never seen that before...

(Sorry I'm late, I've had a lot going on lately.) Anyway, on to this week's theme! This week we're looking for OCs with truly unique talents. More specifically, we want OCs that are pioneers in their trade, wether it be a unicorn creating a new brand of magic, or an earth pony with a new breed of magical plant. I've already got a character to work on for this myself. Now how about you?

So here's one. A unicorn that dreams to be the first to join the Wonderbolts. We know unicorns can simulate flight, but it's a completely different method that is unproven to meet the standards of The Wonderbolts. Yes the goal is the same as Rainbow Dash, but I am pretty sure the story takes on a whole different meaning in this context, with different challenges that many Pegasi take for granted. Theme Could work with an Earth Pony, it just clearly has to be a fish out of water character. Thoughts?

Hello, I'm looking for some help with my Alicorn OC. His name is Damien Bolt and I think he's ok, he's not OP, and he's lost his share of battles but it feels like he's missing something. Can you help? His story is in a fanfic called The Chronicles of Damien Bolt here in the Written Fan Works section. Here he is: https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/damien-bolt-r9385

P.S. You guys seem like the CMC of OCs. lol

P.P.S. The link to the fanfic is in his backstory.

Ok, right now I am gonna give ya the quick once over. First, it's an Alicorns, Alicorns tend to have a lot of detail to them, but because you have gone for a black coat all those details are lost. First thing I would do, put his coat colour off-black rather than pure-black, and then use a lighter colour to bring up the line art. Check how Nightmare Moon is designed. While she is black there is A lot going on to break up the black and makes sure you can see the defining shapes. Also, lighten the red. Saturated colours don't work too well as a pony style, so mKe it a pastel red rather than a deep red.

I understand you are trying to keep to dark themes, and if that's your thing I am not gonna bash on ya for the two combined most reviled colours, I just think that if your gonna fly in that direction, you gotta be smart about it and design with the strengths of the palette you have chosen.

Understand though that Darkness as a theme Needs Light to define it. Damien is a bit too on-the-nose for my liking especially within the MLP universe. The thing about doing the darker tones in the case of MLP is shown right in how they animate it. Highlight line art with a lighter colour so the black coat can still show detail. Also make sure they are more than defined by the dark themes and colours, because if that's all it is the. It feels like a cheap exploit to gain sympathy or dread, depending on direction.

When I design a character, I ask myself, "Can I see this character in the show?", snd if the answer is No then I ask myself Why, and usually the correction becomes self evident. I'll do more maybe at a later date after reading more on him, but these are my first impressions.

Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to put it to good use. But the thing is I wasn't going for dark. I used a "put in a name and get an OC" thing and the result was Damien. And his story isn't dark or sad, it's actually original and would work really well with the show. So I'll give his appearance some work.

Also: the cutie mark is a black cloud w/ a red lightning bolt is it not? Not to be harsh, but the cloud probably won't be visible on his black coat.

The man is a bit oversaturated.

Well, the problem is that Damien is a reference.  Damien was the name of the Anti-Christ in The Omen movies, tied with the colour pallet and the lack of backstory due to a broken link, I could only make the association that you were trying to make him as dark as possible.

Tragic Love

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

This week is different for sure! Instead of just one character, this theme calls for two (or more)! We may be borderlining on 'fanfiction' with these characters. A tale of love mustn't always end in merriment and cheer, so bring us your tales of love gone awry and move us with your characters' sorrows. Remember that a heart can be a burden too heavy for some to bare, and that true love is eternal, even if unrequited.

Tales of the Great Beyond

Communing with the spirits

Everypony loves to listen to ghost stories around an open fire, but where do these tales come from? Who tells the stories of the wandering spirits none can see? Who are these spirits in the first place? These are the questions to answer with this week's theme. Let's see characters that are either wandering spirits, those who commune with them, or those in search of proof of the unknown. Remember, if you're not having fun, you're not doing it right.

I took a look at your OC's page. It looks pretty good so far. A couple minor changes I would make: The backstory could be broken into paragraphs to make it easier to read; You seem to have put a lot of thought into his parents so maybe they could have their own pages with links in his 'other' section; and as far as his magic goes, it might be a good idea to list what kinds of magic he knows (precision telekinesis should definitely be on that list). Adding his cutie mark story was definitely a good choice as it's often a defining moment in the pony's life. If you want more suggestions, feel free to let us know (maybe if you want more specific suggestions, or ideas that can be added to your character's story).

@everypony

I'm working on an idea, but I don't have a page for either of my characters yet. This idea sort of fits this week's theme and last week's theme at the same time. The first is Mona, a mare from around the early years of Ponyville who wandered into the Everfree Forest where she met her demise. The second is the stallion who loved her. After she went missing he went out into the forest alone where he was attacked by Timberwolves. He managed to make his way back to Ponyville before he would succumb to his injuries. While Mona is trapped in the Everfree Forest, the stallion roams Ponyville, unaware of his or his beloved Mona's deaths. Even in death they are kept apart.

That's all I have. I don't have a name for the stallion, nor a color or species (probably Earth Ponies) for either. Any suggestions?

Thank you for taking a lot at my OC and I might try and make a character page for his parents. I would love to have more suggestions on my OC, if that's okay. I was wondering about a few things and wanted to see if they would work.

- I was thinking of adding to what his cutie mark means. I was thinking of saying that it's also a reminder that he controls his own destiny. Since he was bullied when he was younger growing up and standing up to them after so long, it felt like he finally took control of what he wanted to do in his life. I also thought that the person holding the video game controller has control over what they want to do in a video game, so I thought it would work in this situation.

- I was wondering about his magic that it could be video game related. Maybe spells that are from certain video games that he could cast besides some spells in the MLP universe. I was watching Wreck-it Ralph, and I saw how the characters could travel through different video game worlds. I have a pic from a request shop and commission that have him owning a bean bag chair and wearing armor from a video game. I've been thinking on how he has them and I thought that maybe he knows a spell that can make a portal to other video game worlds, or something along those lines. I wasn't sure if that's conisdered overpowered so I wanted to see what others thought.

If there are any more suggestions or ideas, please let me know. I'm always open for more ideas.

Initial thoughts: your deeper meaning behind the cutie mark sounds like a good idea, and the ability to jump into a video game seems like it could be described as an adaptation of Haycart's Method, which may suggest he's either had some education in Canterlot or knows someone who has. I'm guessing that based on the name, his nickname is probably D-Pad, but you didn't mention that at all in the bio, so I can't be sure. I may post more later.

Oh okay, but would the additional information about the cutie mark work? I'm just wondering about that because I understand that a cutie mark is representation of what you are good at and what your destiny is, but is it weird to say that it works as a reminder that he controls his own destiny? I also never thought about that and I could say he moved to Canterlot for his duration of high school and had looked into Haycart's method. Then he could either have come up with a spell, or made a portal to the gaming worlds, but kept it secret so it would be overused, or something along those lines. Also yeah, his nickname is D-Pad, or he is referred to as Dynamo, but I forgot to put that in the character link. That's my bad, sorry about that.  Also, what is Haycart's method?

Alright, I could use a hand on crafting a backstory for my Ponysona Flash Lightning. For some reason all I can seem to write are sad or dark stories, and would like some assistance with making his actually normal. So if you could help, I'd really appreciate it.

The info you posted about the cutie mark makes sense. Also, Haycart's Method is what Twilight uses in the show to jump into a book and walk the pages.

@

If this is going to be a Ponysona, we should start out with facts about yourself. What are you good at? What do you like? What are your best traits? What flaws do you see in yourself? Do you live in a large city or a small town?

Of these questions, the easiest to start at is: What do you want the character to be good at? It can help with coming up with a place of origin.

Okay awesome, thanks! Oh okay on Haycart's Method. With how Twilight used it to go into the pages of a book, I guess I can say my OC learns it after studying the properties of the spell within the four years of high school and learned to become 'one with the games' so to speak when playing video games. This would help explain how he has accessories and other things from the gaming world. Thanks for the help on that. I was just wondering is there any other suggestions you have? If you need any ideas I can throw some to you and see what you think.
