I know little about sports, but steroids have never really been an issue to me. Steroids may enhance physical abilities but they don't always ensure victory. If some dude wants to nearly kill himself and end up with a defective penis for a chance at winning the game, let him. I think the fact that people use steroids to win a GAME shows that our mentality about sports is far too serious. The fact that sports make more money than most careers shows we idolize sports way too much. Maybe if there wasn't so much pressure on these guys/girls to win, then they wouldn't be using steroids.

Just the take of a man who really has no interest in sports.

I hope so. I would rather see less records than false ones. A two bit Sammy Sosa getting huge, getting all those home runs, then disappearing back into nothing never should have happened.

But those home runs put asses in seats, which meant more money for the sport.

Which is inherently the problem. The pressure to get these runs and to perform makes people turn to steroids. It's a catch 22, need fans to justify the sport, but needing fans creates the need for the performance which increases steroid use. Sadly after the long period of steroids and records... Let's face it... That's what people expect: that level of performance. People want to see greater things than they have already seen so it ups the anti higher and higher.

As nice as that would be even if that were the case they would simply replace them with other performance enhancing drugs some of which a bit more difficult to detect with a standard urine test. The same can be said for other professional sports like football for example as well, there is so much money riding on all of it that corruption often follows sadly.
