So I've had the unfortunate experience of running into Equestria girls minis. What is Equestria girls minis you might ask. Well from the marketing I've been seeing it looks like they've made a series following chibi version of the main cast, which doesn't sound all that bad right? I mean I'm an anime guy, chibi stuff can be pretty damn adorable.

NO!

This is not the case with this thing.

See if you can spot all the problems I have with this new series in this couple of clips here. (click at your own peril)

So it seems Hasbro's game plan with this is to

1) Turn up everybody's energy levels past Pinkie Pie on a Sugar high

2) Eliminate anything that makes them interesting as characters for the most basic of stereotypes

3) Shred any sense of subtly and maturity that bring in the wider demographic

4) Don't even get the original voice actors to do the roles.

5) Have the cheapest, ugliest animation they can afford and just speed it up to mind melting levels.

This is the first thing to come out of generation four that I am going to give a big old HELL NO too. Equestria girls the movies are pretty solid, The show is great, but this is not a sign of a direction I want to see.

This thing looks like if they took generation 3.5 and gave it a big ol cup of espresso laced with cocaine.

Here's a thought -- are these shorts created by DHX? If not, then it's probably the reason why these shorts are of poor quality. While I do agree that these shorts are definitely not good, it could be a whole lot worse than what it is. Hasbro's main focus at the moment is MLP:FiM G4, so unfortunately we can't always expect high quality stuff in Equestria Girls.

The figures are really fucking great, they actually look cute unlike those other abominations that are the OG EQG dolls. I don't care if the commercials aren't that good(which isn't made by DHX, but someone else entirely.)

I have to agree the figures are flipping adorable but that looks super cringey like there'd something about the 3d rendering that's like unfinished? Unprofessional? Idk just not right lol I adore the mini figs though wayyyyyyy better than the eqg dolls

Also I love the little uggs that twilight is wearing lol

They are shorts...they are meant to be eye catching and crazy, and not necessarily indicative of their long term plans.

Also, I don't get bugged by things that are clearly for an audience other than myself.

they look terrible, but they can do whatever the heck they want to with EG...I'm never going to watch any more of it.

The toys look good in Real life. The shorts are an abomination.

However, the shorts are also produced on a shoestring budget and shouldn't be Meant to be indicative of the show anymore than the "TWOILOT SPERKLES BALLOON" ad was. They're just meant to get the word out, not be an actual animated series in its own right.

This, all of this!

Plus, the character designs of the Minis are far better than those of the original EQGs. There's something disturbing about the stretched bodies of the movie characters while the Minis have this appealing, animesque look.

Love the toys sooooo much!
The shorts.. not so much. I think they have the potential to be good, but..
I dunno, something is a bit off about them for sure.

I'm honestly not sure what to think of the chibiness. I guess I just hope it doesn't replace the current EqG design.

Also, I'm a little reluctant to watch those videos, judging by the thumbnails. I know it's not my style to judge before watching, but I'm not just not sure I'll like it. Perhaps when I have the time..

The toys look nice. I mean, Rainbow is actually wearing shorts now instead of a skirt, so thats a nice change. I also like that Fluttershy's clothes are a much lighter green.

The animation, on the other hand, I just can't get into it. Something about CGI animations just put me off.

One thing I wonder: Given how they're making Guardians of harmony toys that are just figurines to put on the shelf for alot of the characters and villains (like discord), Would they consider making a Sunset satan toy in the mini-art style? Since the minis are aimed at both bronies/collectors as well as the little girls.

I wouldn't count on the Chibi style replacing the animation style. They might grow to overshadow the other *Toys*, but they're not going to change the show's art style for the toys.

Hah. While the shorts are in character, its still technically not show accurate though ;p

Let's be real, big companies want to make more money, this will be appealing to the target younger market, they could make big $$$ of it, that's their main reasoning.

>younger market

Going to be honest, this seems aimed at the *older* market more than the younger one specifically. Little kids will love this, of course; but they also seemed to have liked the Barbie doll ones they've made already.

I think this actually appeals more to the higher end of the EQG target audience (by that, I mean the 7-9 year olds instead of the 4 year olds) since the younger ones don't care so much about show accuracy as the older ones, and these ones are aimed at being visually pleasing as their first priority (compared to the "normal" EQG toys)
