mega thread The state of the Brony fandom (Numbers, Popularly, Future)

No, if anything its sphere of influence is growing. I was on Powerup rewards the other day and noticed several brony rewards such as keychains, wallets, and even some RD socks. The forum on the other hand is in a recession right now, but that is expected between seasons.

You can worry about the fandom dying when the latest entry in Equestria Daily is Sethisto saying that he's working on some other stuff, but he'll be back in a couple weeks. And that was upwards of six months ago. I've seen some tumbleweed fandoms and this ain't one of them. Most fandoms are lucky to be as active in their prime as this one is in it's downtime.

I mean, heck, when's the last time you heard ReBoot or Captain N discussed? Or Sonic SatAm? And those aren't even obscure or anything.

Heh. Those shows are from ten-twenty years ago; they are now officially obscure. Most of the people on this forum aren't old enough to remember them. There's a few that weren't even born when Captain N or Sonic SatAM went off the air.  ;)

If there is a fandom for Star Wars, Star trek, and various other si-fi/fantasy titles still, MLP will still have it's fandom. MLP ALWAYS had a fandom, but it changed, and evolved from what it was back at gen 1, to where it is now. The thing about MLP is that it's a fan-produced content fandom. Star Wars has a huge history they can draw upon to keep it current. Mlp doesn't have that. What keeps the fandom going is what the fans make.

This includes all the art forms, videos, music, images, etc. Eventually the show will run dry, all rivers meet somewhere in the end. But it's what the fans make that will keep the fandom alive in my opinion.

Honestly I think it's going stronger by the day. Even if a few people decide to leave the fandom, I believe new fans are coming in faster than they are going out. You can check the stats too, there were record numbers on this very website recorded a few weeks ago (yeah I wasn't here then but I saw it, :P haha) and you can just go to google trends and while google trends isn't the be all and end all, if you type in stuff like mlp, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pony, Brony, the numbers are at an all time high. Just wait till season 4 comes out, I predict it's gonna be nuts.

Pokemon? No one mentions the almost 20 year old fanbase? Like them, this fanbase will have a hard time dying, and has the right stuff to be a legendary fandom like Pokemon and star trek! It aint dying, its just getting its feet ingrained into the fandom soil!

Ill be here to its bitter end, and seeming as 3 seasons in done deal I hope for 5 more seasons

But....but I....Ugh.

Now I feel like that time somebody told me about that time somebody told them they hadn't seen Star Wars. Not to the same extent, obviously, but it's the same feeling. I suppose now I'm going to be told that nobody much remembers Slayers either and/or wasn't born back then. Or Beastwars. These are....okay, they aren't classics, but everyone's seen them, right? No? What did the younger generation even watch if it wasn't the same stuff I did?

I suppose someday Bronies going to dig their memorabilia out and their kids will be baffled and confused. It'll be like trying to understand the appeal of the Monkees or KISS or whatever.

Awww. Don't worry, I remember them all. :) How about the original Battlestar Galactica, or the Buck Rogers in the 25th century TV series? Electra Woman and Dyna Girl! Dr. Shrinker!

Huh. Never realized those last two sounded so much like porn until now. No, seriously, they were TV shows for kids! There was a span of time they did a lot more live action stuff than cartoons for Saturday morning. :)

Seeing how widespread the Brony community is, I do not see it dying anytime soon. Even if the show went to crap I am sure the community would be fine. There are a lot of Bronies out there. Though some of the big names are stepping down, it leaves room for new people to step up and show what they have to offer because people will be looking for more music and fan fic, etc.

These fandom dying things always appear here when the show is off season. As soon as it starts up again, the fandom will be abuzz with new stuff. The fandom as a whole is doing great. Sure, things are slower now, but that's because of how the fandom handled S3. 13 episodes, Alicorn Twi, and the long break. I'll admit, I haven't done much pony related things other than writing. But when a season starts again, everyone goes back to watching the show. This fandom will be around for a long time

I don't, and probably never will think it's dying, degrading, or whatever you want to call it.

It's still the same fandom it was a year ago, and while there have been a few changes, it is not dying.

Anyone who thinks this is either naive, trolling, or just thinking wishfully.

Trust me i hear the same thing over on the spore forum. that the game is dead and such, which it really isn't. People complain it a fact of the internet.

the fandom will most likely increase when the new season airs, it might be that fans takes ''breaks'' inbetween seasons atleast people who arent that much into the forums or other fanmade stuff aka people who just enjoy the show

Im not at all afraid that the fandom and community will die in a LONG LONG LONG time.

Aw hell naw!

It's at it's highest point so far! More and more people are being introduced to ponies day after day!

The fandom is alive!

IT'S ALIIIVE!

The show may stop running, but it will always be in our hearts!

It's probably difficult to tell exactly how many people left because of weirdness towards the end of S3. Truth is, truly ambivalent people aren't actually about to voice their concerns about how a cartoon for little girls that they watch wasn't going exactly the way they wanted it to - they're just going to leave.

Fellow bronies I typed this at such a late hour when I had just learned about the decline of the popularity of the brony community, unfortunately this was the best I could do but I hope it goes far throughout the community so everyone can see it and we can become even greater, and bound by friendship once more... I love you all. -Ink Stain yay.png

Think of the fandom like a train, while their is new show content it has plenty of steam and thus can travle along the track at high speeds. between seasons the fuel gets low and the train has to conserve fuel.  it never stops or derails.

difference is howver is that when MLP derails it keeps on going and just plows right through everything else in its path. :P
