Which Pokemon game is your favorite? Why?

My favorites are Pokemon White and Pokemon Black 2. I felt that these games had a fun and memorable playthrough. The games could have been a bit longer, but I loved pretty much everything about them.

I grew up and played only the old Pokemon games because once the new games came out, I didn't have the handheld console or the money to play them. But my favorite Pokemon game is Pokemon Red, can't beat the classics. :P

I'm a big fan of XD and Colosseum. I liked how plot driven they were and that they kind of forced you to use some unique pokemon you normally wouldn't use. Heart Gold/Soul Silver is right up there too, such fantastic remakes. They had everything that made GSC great and so much more.

It is a tie for me between Pokemon Crystal and Emerald. Both introduced quite a few new features for the series that I really enjoyed and it had far better difficulty balance than the new games. Playing those back in the day on my GBA is a wonderful memory that I have.

Gold and Silver still remain my all time favorite. I remember picking Gold up shortly after release, seeing Ho-Oh on the box, and my 10 year old self squealing in delight about the prospect of continuing a journey that I had started in Red and Blue. :D

I could probably write several paragraphs about my experience with the game, but to try and keep it short; the reason these games felt so good to me was simply because of the sheer amount of improvements the games introduced over Red & Blue. The updated color to the graphics, primitive as it might sound, just blew me away after having to experience the entirety of the previous gen in monochrome. Everything just looked so vibrant and much more interesting. The sprites were much more polished and better designed. The game mechanics such as a real time clock system which was still quite innovative for a game back then, especially one on a handheld system. The mobile phone which allowed you to re-challenge previous trainers you've fought as their teams grew stronger over time, weekly events such as the bug catching contest, radio stations (okay, they were 8-bit, but c'mon), making custom pokeballs through apricorns, shiny pokemon, pokemon breeding, introduction of hold items, friendship, move tudors. There was just so many awesome features introduced in these games!

But of course, by far the best aspect was being able to travel back to the Kanto region and seeing just how much things have changed since your last visit. That was a true nostalgia rush, and such an unexpected surprise to me in a time where there was no internet to spoil everything weeks before the games came out.

So yeah, that's why Gold and Silver are so special to me, they felt like a leap that Pokemon has never really managed to emulate for me again. Maybe it's because as the series has aged it became harder and harder to improve on the same old base formula, but I don't feel as though any other games in the series have made quite as many innovations as these two did.

Call me a gewunner, but the first gen has always Been my favorite. That said my favorite game is actually FireRed and LeafGreen, it fixes all of the problems of the original games such as balance and item storage and completely hauls the game with all the improvements of G2 and G3, not to mention all dem bonus content

I loved Pokemon Crystal to pieces. G/S, too, but I give Crystal the edge since they finally added a female trainer option. That generation felt like only an improvement from the originals. I loved the day/night and week system (and the fact that it actually meant something back then), I loved getting to see Kanto post-game. Also the music, G2 had the best music, I swear.

Aside from G2, the best generation for me has probably been G5. I loved the fact that Black/White made you use new Pokemon before the post-game. It was very refreshing. There were also other small refreshing features, IIRC. G6 and G4 don't fall too far behind, though.

G3 is the weakest, and hopefully always will be. Not sorry.

Emerald, probably. The one I played the most is Fire Red/Leaf Green though.

Pokemon FireRed is a great game. It was the first core Pokemon game that I complete on my own. Who did you choose as your starter?

Well, I chose a lot of starters through the years since I mostly did Nuzlocke challenges :D  My favorite will always be Bulbasaur, though.

Bulbasaur is so underrated! It's a shame, too because he's adorable and his evolution line is awesome.

True. Though I don't hate the pokémon itself, Charmander/Charizard's reputation really drives me off sometimes, especially when it got two mega evolutions and Bulbasaur (and Squirtle) only got one.

Ooh, that's a toughie. I guess it boils down to Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, or Ruby/Sapphire version.

Pinball was just one that I spent hours on, and it was a good time-killer. Gale of Darkness was fun, suspenseful, had awesome music, and it was just plain kick-ass. The Ruby/Sapphire versions were the first actual Pokemon games I owned, and I grew to favor them over the rest.

I honestly have to say, my most favorite Pokemon game would have to be Pokemon Fire Red for the GameBoy Advance. I know it may sound a bit cliche but I've always had a soft spot for classic games, from the 1900's to 2000's. And since I was never able to play or experience the very first, Pokemon Red for Gameboy Color, this was as close as I'd get. This was the first Pokemon I ever played, and would get me hooked to the Pokemon series all together.

  • 2 weeks later...

My favorite Pokemon game would have to be Pokemon Diamond. The Sinnoh region was my favorite place to explore and Diamond version was actually my first Pokemon game I ever completed. I remember losing some interest in Pokemon after playing Ruby version and I wasn't sure if I was going to continue. Then I saw the hour and a half special of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl anime on Cartoonetwork. After seeing that I decided to pick up Diamond version and I felt happiness and inspired again as I played through the game.

My favorite pokemon games would be either Pokemon Black and White or Black and White 2.  The 5th generation is my all time favorite.

After that I would go with Ruby Sapphire and Emerald.

Emerald Version has to be my favorite. Not only was it my first Pokemon game, it has to be one of the best out there period. And I also still have the fabric Pokemon Emerald Version fabric cover for the GameBoy Advance SP that I don't even have anymore.

I don't know really. I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like the most. I've played all main series games except for Yellow, XY and ORAS (because the 3D style looks like crap imo and I refuse to play them).

The first Pokémon game I played was Silver and I didn't try Red/Blue until after Platinum came out. I'm too lazy to write about every game so I'll just get straight to the point, my favorites are:

HeartGold / SoulSilver

These games were great. G/S/C were amazing games since you could visit two regions and even though they are the classics, I gotta pick HGSS over them because of all improvements. There are so many new features and things to do which makes the remakes IMO way better than the originals. The biggest reason why I pick them over the originals though is because of the new graphics. They look great and made my experience in Johto/Kanto even better than the first time. Pokémon following you was also really neat. The only thing I like about the original games more is the 8-bit music, but that doesn't put them any higher because HG/SS included a feature so you can switch to the classic soundtracks if you prefer them. It's awesome. The negative things I have to say about these games is that even though you have two regions, the story is pretty short (and it's also pretty boring to be perfectly honest) and it doesn't continue once you reach Kanto. It's kind of a letdown since there's so many things to do in Johto but once you get to Kanto you just have to rush through the region and beat the gyms. I also feel like the game is a little bit too easy. I beat SoulSilver with only 4 Pokémon deaths during the entire playthrough because of Counter, Destiny Bond, Counter again and an unlucky crit-flinch. Red's entire level 82-88 team was beaten using just my level 70 Togekiss and my level 69 Gyarados.

Emerald

R/S/E easily had the best region of all games if you ask me. It may be a little bit over-exaggerated with one place for snow, one place for lava, one for sand, one water city, one forest city... But I really like it. It gives the adventure of the game more importance. It really feels like you are exploring new things unlike in HGSS where every area looks the same. The story of this game was really fun too, although it isn't as long as in other games, it feels so... mysterious. Emerald added a bunch of cool new things to Ruby and Sapphire and its Battle Frontier is the best one I've seen in a Pokémon game so far. Sadly, most battles in the game were way too easy, you'll run in to trainers having 3 of the same pokémon so often and the AI is pretty bad cause they're often using stat moves when they have like 5 hp left. The only really challenging part of the game is the path up to Fortree City where there are 1000 trainers using breloom and pokémon with giga drain, leech seed and confuse ray spam as well as the Elite Four.

Platinum

The Sinnoh region is pretty cool and the story of this game is decent... But surprisingly pretty long, which I like a lot. Something I love about this game as well as in DP is the music. All Pokémon games have great music, but the soundtracks in these games just stood out for me. Sure, G/S/C and R/S/E have some of the most iconic Pokémon game songs ever, but DPP delivered great music for every single area in the game. The soundtrack for Celestic Town must be one of my all time favorite Pokémon game tunes for example, and the route 1 theme was the best route 1 (or 201) theme since pokemon Red and Blue. With Platinum, you got some cool new improvements over Diamond and Pearl (I personally didn't care much for the giratina world thingy but there were other new things). However, what I enjoyed the most out of these three games (and especially Platinum) was that the game wasn't as ridiculously easy as the games that came before it, even normal trainer battles could become challenging after you've run out of PP for your best move. Not only that, the Pokémon League for this game was so difficult the first time you tried it and once you finally reached Cynthia with only 4 Pokes left alive and saw that she had a Spiritomb AND a Garchomp, you knew you were fucked.

..I really don't want to pick just one cause all three of them are great. I also had a blast playing FireRed and LeafGreen but I think those games are kind of forgettable so they didn't make the list. If I had to pick one though I'd go for Emerald because of the big feeling of mystery throughout the entire game. The Regi trio hunt for example. Black & White didn't make the list because they were just so easy it was kind of lame. BW2 didn't make the list because I'm playing White 2 right now and I'm not finished yet.

I never played that many, so...i have not much to choose from.

I would say, the Yellow Edition is my favorite, since i found it cute, that a Pikachu follows you around all the time.

Even thought i didnt liked, that he didnt wanted to get an Evolution.

I also played Pokemon Pinball a lot, it was very addicting and fun.

To name a few, my favorites include:

Pokemon Blue

Not only is Blue the very first game of the Pokemon series that I have played, but it was what started my love and interest for the series as a whole.

Pokemon Soul Silver

I've played the older version of Heart Gold awhile back, and the storyline as well as the features were what made me have a fondness towards the DS remake. (Also, the pokemon walker addition was a nice touch.)

Pokemon X

Though I would complain that this version was one of the quickest I had finished in two days, it is not compared to the diversity of character creation, introduction of mega evolution, and overall "awe" factor.

Pokemon Crystal because it's my first...

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl because Sinnoh is my favorite region...

And Pokemon X because Kalos got me back into Pokemon in the first place.

Pokemon HeartGold. My first pokemon game, and it was great. There was a lot to do, and since it had Johto and Kanto, there was a lot to explore and find. Also, Feraligatr.
